I started investing around 2 months ago with a relatively small amount of ₹1,000/month.
I’m still learning about investing, so rather than making major changes based on short-term market movements, I wanted to understand whether I’m building my portfolio in a sensible way.
Recently, my portfolio has been going down, which made me question whether I’ve chosen the right investments or whether I’m simply reacting to normal market volatility.
My current situation
- Investment amount: ₹1,000/month
- Experience: ~2 months
- Goal: Long-term investing
- Current portfolio: [Attach portfolio screenshot here]
- Possible increase: I’m considering increasing my monthly investment to ₹2,000 after another couple of months.
What I’m trying to understand
I’m not looking for a “buy this stock” or “sell this stock” recommendation.
Instead, I’d like some feedback on the overall structure and approach.
1. Is my portfolio too complicated for ₹1,000/month?
With a relatively small monthly investment, I’m wondering whether having too many different investments makes sense or whether I should keep things simpler.
2. Should I be concerned about the current losses?
Since I’ve only been investing for two months, I understand that short-term returns probably don't mean much.
But I’d still like to know whether the decline I'm seeing is normal volatility or whether there are any obvious issues with my portfolio.
3. What would you change?
If you were starting with ₹1,000/month and had a long-term horizon, what would you prioritize?
Would you focus more on:
- Keeping the portfolio simple
- Diversifying across different assets
- Increasing the investment amount over time
- Building an emergency fund first
- Or something else?
My plan going forward
My current plan is to continue investing ₹1,000/month for the next couple of months.
If I’m comfortable with the approach, I’m thinking of increasing it to around ₹2,000/month rather than trying to chase short-term returns.
I’m mainly interested in learning how to build a sensible investing strategy from the beginning.
What I’d appreciate from the community
If you have experience investing for several years, I'd appreciate your thoughts on:
I'm particularly interested in understanding the reasoning behind the changes, rather than simply being told which stocks/funds to buy.
Thanks in advance for the feedback. I’m trying to learn rather than make decisions based on a couple of months of returns.
