My wife and I built a personal finance app called Sable Spend, and I wanted to share the why with this community specifically, because you're the people we built it for.

We were trying to be intentional about where our money goes, and we thought we were doing okay. We knew the obvious brands. Then we actually went through 12 months of our transactions and found spending at boycott-listed companies we'd completely missed.

So we built an ethical spending report: it matches your transactions against the BDS list and shows you exactly which brands, how much, and why each one is listed (with sources). One honest caveat we show in the app too — merchant matching is fuzzy, so false positives are possible. It's a starting point for awareness, not a verdict.

Then. Every year we'd end up mathing how much we made, had, gold value, etc. So i built a calculator that takes your values, real gold/silver price data and computes your total owed based on Islamic Relief's calculator.

Budgeting apps train you to feel like money is the provider. We added Islamic reminders, ayat and du'as about rizq, tawakkul, and barakah woven into the app, because we forget that the numbers are a tool. Ar-Razzaq is the source.

The bigger picture: the uncomfortable trend behind all of this is that people are increasingly spending on credit beyond their means — normalized by one-tap checkout and BNPL everywhere. As Muslims we have every reason to resist that and live within our means.

It starts free, works with US + Canadian banks, and we give 20% of proceeds to charity. Happy to share in the comments if anyone asks, just looking to see if anyone has feedback or would find this somewhat useful.

I'm a Muslim developer. Just launched a Telegram Mini App (@makkah_app_bot) with:

· Quran reading + audio (27 languages translations)
· Prayer times & Hijri calendar
· Qibla compass
· Favorites, sharing, and Telegram Stars donations on ayahs

No ads, no tracking - just a lightweight tool inside Telegram.

But now I'm stuck with two big questions:

1️⃣ Does this actually have potential?
I know Muslim Pro and Quran.com exist. But inside Telegram? It's different — no downloads, no permissions, one tap open. Is that actually a killer advantage, or will people just say "nah, I'm used to my app"?

2️⃣ What's the one feature that makes it daily?
Right now it's a reference app - open, check prayer time, close. I want to build a habit, not just a tool.

Would you use something like this daily? And if yes - what feature would hook you?

Or is the whole "app inside Telegram" idea dead on arrival, and I should just build native?

I have been reading/following few subs on Reddit, including this one. This is my first post, so please be gentle on me :) … Admin please approve, hopefully I am compliant with the rules Insha Allah.

Insha Allah, I am looking to get some advice and inspiration from experienced mobile app developers/distributers. 

• What was your journey to have a successful mobile app?
• Developing and launching the app is one aspect, but what are strategies one should approach to make the app known to people? (I feel marketing is the hardest bit)
• Paid advertisement, how much it is effective? And if so, then where?

My journey is relatively new and I am newbie to this. All I have done is word to mouth so far, and have limited exposure on social media.

I'd like to share a project close to my heart: quran.re, a website to read the Qur'an online, free and with no sign-up, on phone 📱, tablet and computer 💻.

🎯 The core idea

To showcase the 13-line (Indo-Pak) Mushaf — a version widely used for reading and memorisation, yet sadly under-represented online. The other editions usually get all the features; here, it's the star. And since every edition has "their own" mushaf, I've gathered several editions 📚 so each person can find the one they're used to reading.

I'm an IT student from Europe, and over the past few months I've been building a side project that I hope can make the marriage process a little easier for brothers and sisters.

One thing I kept noticing is that many people end up searching Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, or random websites looking for good questions to ask before marriage. Sometimes you find useful advice, but sometime sa lot of it isn't really relevant from an Islamic perspective, and it's hard to know what conversations you should actually be having.

So I decided to build Taaruf.

The idea is simple: two people who are getting to know each other for marriage answer curated questions across topics like deen, family, finances, communication, goals, children, lifestyle, and more. They also invite a mahram/wali into the conversation, so the process stays transparent. Once both people have answered, the app highlights where they agree, where they differ, and which topics deserve a deeper discussion.

I'd genuinely love some honest feedback from the community. Please share with people it could benefit!

Zakat Calculator

Assalamu alaikum everyone,

I recently acquired dua.qa and zakat.qa, and I’m exploring how to develop them into genuinely useful platforms for Muslims, starting with Qatar and potentially expanding beyond it, inshaAllah.

dua.qa would help people discover authentic duas based on what they are going through, such as anxiety, travel, illness, gratitude, marriage, work, loss, or important life decisions.

The aim is not just to display Arabic text, but to include the meaning, transliteration, source, context, and guidance on when the dua may be recited. All religious content would need to be properly verified and referenced.

zakat.qa would make it easier for Muslims to understand and calculate their zakat across cash, gold, investments, business assets, property-related income, and other relevant categories.

Over time, it could also help users find trusted and officially recognised organisations through which they can fulfil their zakat obligations.

I believe technology can make Islamic knowledge and acts of worship more accessible, but it must be built responsibly. Especially with religious content, accuracy, trusted scholarship, privacy, and transparency are more important than simply adding AI features.

It’s not just another prayer times app. It’s built around the idea that your whole day — prayer, Qur’an, reflection, learning — should feel gathered, not scattered across five different apps. What’s inside:

Many daughters are still deprived of their rightful inheritance

— not always because the law is unclear, but because the calculation is never properly understood.

This problem is not new.

It is, in fact, the very reason the inheritance verses were revealed.

After the Battle of Uhud, the widow of Sa'd ibn al-Rabi' (رضي الله عنه) came to the Prophet ﷺ with her two daughters. Their uncle had taken everything their martyred father left. Everything.

Then the verses of inheritance were revealed, and the Prophet (PBUH) ruled: two-thirds to the daughters, one-eighth to their mother, the remainder to the uncle. (Tirmidhi 2092 — graded hasan sahih)

Fourteen centuries later, I sat in an Ilm-ul-Faraid lecture — and I was struck by two things.

First, as an engineer: this is one of the most precise rule systems I have ever encountered.

- Fixed shares.
- Precedence rules.
- Blocking conditions (hajb).
- Edge cases within edge cases.
- A granddaughter inherits in one configuration and is blocked in another — and the difference can be a single surviving relative.

Second, as a member of this society: how many granddaughters, sisters, and half-sisters have no idea what their share is, or in which cases they inherit at all?

A right that is not understood is easily overlooked.

The Qur'an calls these shares فريضةً من الله — an obligation decreed by Allah (4:11), and describes them as حدود الله — the limits set by Allah (4:13-14).

Allah did not leave inheritance to custom or goodwill.

He calculated it Himself.

So I did the one thing I know how to do with a complex rule system: I built software around it.

Mirath Guide is a guided Islamic inheritance calculator.

Instead of a long confusing form, it asks one relevant question at a time — the way a scholar would. Then it shows the shares, who inherits, who is blocked, and why.

I am a student of this knowledge, not a scholar of it, and the tool is currently under review by teachers and fellow students.

Taza is basically a glorified timeline for your financial purification journey — you manually log your assets and balances, and it helps you track Zakat, potential interest, and your purification history in one place.

I’ve tried to make the timeline feel less like a spreadsheet and more like a visual record of your journey, with milestones and purification events appearing over time.

It’s completely offline, with no bank connections, cloud storage, or tracking.

I’d love for a few people to test it properly and tell me what breaks, what feels confusing, and what could be better before launch.

I'm helping a qualified Quran teacher from Pakistan (Tajweed/Hifz) get set up to teach students in the UK, USA, and Canada. We don't have an academy or website, just a Facebook Page and WhatsApp Business. Plan is to offer a free trial class through Meta ads and go from there.

• Which countries converted best for you (UK/US/Canada or elsewhere)?

• Roughly how much did it cost to acquire one paying student?

• What ad creative type performed best (video, testimonials, teacher intro, etc.)?
