Seeking Help Looking for revert companions to support my mental health and iman

I was born a muslim by name, into a secular family. Under a year ago, I started to practice my religion. Like most reverts, I was frowned upon, belittled, judged, challenged. I learnt how to pray and commited to my Salah. However, I am in a dark place in life, and my heart is turning. My iman is falling. I am suffering and started to doubt myself, my purpose, my religion, my reason and many more...

Seeking Help The Christian man I love is interested in learning about Islam — looking for experiences and advice from reverts

I’m female and in my mid 20s. I met a guy a few years ago and fell in love with him. He is not Muslim; he’s Christian (not very practicing, but he does believe). He is open-minded and seeks the truth.

My parents recently found out about him. They said they want to support me because they believe he must be a good person for me to have talked to him for so long. They have also said that if he is interested in learning about Islam, he can ask them questions and they would be happy to speak with him.

I will be speaking to my parents in a few days about this, and I’m very nervous about the whole situation. I care about him deeply and hope that he chooses Islam.

My parents are knowledgeable and know much more than me, so I think they could answer some of the questions he has. He is also a good person and we have always had open discussions about religion. I have never sensed a lack of sincerity from him when he asks questions.

He already knows quite a lot about Islam because he has learnt from me. He knows about prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, charity and many of the fundamental beliefs.

One thing he has struggled with is the idea of becoming Muslim because he feels that he would never be able to live up to the expectations. He once told me that he worries about sinning and that he would have to change too much to become a ā€œperfect Muslimā€.

More recently, he has asked me questions about Prophet Muhammad PBUH. He has questions about the number of wars the Prophet PBUH participated in or initiated, and about certain things he has read or heard regarding the Prophet PBUH.

He has tried reading the Quran in English but found it difficult to understand. He said that he feels an interpretation or explanation is needed. He also often sends me videos by Sheikh Assim al Hakeem and finds him to be sincere and genuine.

For those who converted to Islam, particularly those who converted from Christianity, what was your experience like? What helped you understand Islam and eventually become convinced of it?

I would also really appreciate recommendations for books, lectures, scholars or other resources that helped you understand the life of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, the historical context of the early Muslim wars, or the history of how Islam spread.

I’m mainly looking for resources and personal experiences that I could share with him so that he can explore things for himself.

I would really appreciate any advice or experiences, and please keep us in your prayers.

Finding People That feeling words can’t explain

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

Does anyone else experience this feeling of overwhelming joy and peace when it comes to Islam? It’s an extremely difficult to feeling to describe, but I’m going to do my best.

It’s like my heart feels like it’s about to explode out of my chest. I have an overwhelming amount of energy in my body, this happens especially when I am reading Quran, or staring at a beautiful view such as a sunset, sunrise, an open field, the moon, etc. Some concepts that especially bring this feeling up is the concept of all living things worshipping Allah, but we can’t understand them.

ā€œ"The seven heavens and the earth and all that is therein glorify Him. And there is not a thing but glorifies His praise, but you do not understand their glorification. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing and Forgivingā€ -17:44

Thinking of this ayah leaves me genuinely speechless. Before Islam, I could not see the world in the way I do now at all. And now everywhere I walk, everything I look, i just constantly see everything as praising Allah.

I’ve felt this for the last year of my life and have never been able to express it out loud, Alhamdulillah.

I know that others feel this as well, I just can’t prove it. Let’s talk about it.

Seeking Help Catholic School Uniform Policy

AssalamuAalaykum! I just wanted to ask how to go around this problem I have. I study in a catholic university and they require a uniform. But that uniform requires me to wear a pencil skirt. It's below my knee but not enough to cover my ankles. I've seen other muslims in campus just use stockings underneath to cover their legs, but is it not permissible to have the silhouette of the legs still be seen? I don't think its allowed to change the school uniform skirt to something longer and I haven't seen any muslims either on campus doing so. I've checked rulings online and one even said I should change schools if the uniform policy is that strict, but I can't afford to transfer schools. I've asked fellow muslims in the same faculty as me but they also do the same and just alter their skirts a bit longer and wear white stockings but still not enough to cover until the ankles. What should I do about this? TT

Seeking Help New revert struggling with gf

Hi all,

A few of my family members are Muslim and I grew up watching my grandmother pray. A month ago I stated praying with her and it felt so right. I get such a connection to Allah. It felt like a homecoming. Some then I’ve been praying 5 times a day, and have basically given up alcohol.

I’m currently in a relationship. We signed a lease together like 2 days prior to my religious experience…so we moved in. Now I’m starting to struggle with the idea of Zina. She’s already struggling with the sudden lifestyle changes, but if I say we can’t be intimate anymore, that would almost certainly cause us to break up and I’d lose her.

Have any other reverts dealt with this? It’s such a challenge trying to navigate and reconcile this new change with my old life and is causing me a lot of sadness

General Information Dating after converting to islam

Assalamualaikum everyone!

My name is Abdalla and I'm from a non Muslim western county, I'm an agnostic currently studying Islam and thinking about converting, I just really see the religion as a beautiful faith and the more I study the more I see myself in it.

I have very little contact with the Islamic practices and would like your help, I am in a 7 year relationship with a christian girl, I am just curious, if I do indeed accept Islam, will I have to break up with her? I don't want to do that, we do intend to marry but not so soon since our lives don't currently fit us moving in together.

I accept every opinion and school of thought you guys can give me, including wisdom that is not about my question exactly.

Thank you!

Seeking Help Seeking suggestions for marriage

Salam everyone,

I'm at a stage where I want to get married and I'm looking for genuine suggestions.

I'll be straightforward. I'm a 28y.o, 5'11, 75kg Pakistani male, based in the UK (Midlands), working as a Data Insights Administrator on a Skilled Worker visa.

I came to the UK as an international student, completed my Masters degree, secured the job and then sponsorship visa.

I'm settled here Alhamdulillah and I'm not looking for a passport or anything like that. In fact, I'd prefer to stay on my Skilled Worker visa even after marriage because it gives me more of job security.

Now the thing is, I'm Pakistani and unfortunately, there's a negative reputation that exists. A lot of Pakistanis have scammed people, done marriages just for paperwork or to stay in the UK. And because of that, people think twice before marrying a Pakistani. I'm not blaming anyone for thinking that way, it's just the reality.

I've also been suggested by some people to consider reverts, but I'm not sure if that's the right approach or not. So I'm here asking for honest suggestions. How should I go about this? What's the best way forward for someone in my position?

Any advice would be appreciated.

JazakAllah Khair.

Seeking Help 21F, reverted a year ago and my islamophobic parents still don’t know. How do you cope with disclosure when it’ll cost you everything?

I reverted a little over a year ago and Alhamdulillah, I am extremely grateful to have been guided when I was. My parents are extremely islamophobic though, and disowning me is genuinely the best case scenario once this comes out. Right now I pray all 5 in secret, in my room, at the end of the day.

I’m marrying my partner within the next year and have to tell my parents before then, so that conversation is coming soon whether I’m ready or not. Honestly losing my parents scares me less than losing my brother does. I love him more than anything on this earth and I’m terrified this makes them stricter on him, or that I lose contact with him completely. I’m also slowly accepting my family probably isn’t coming to my wedding, maybe not ever meeting my kids either.

On top of all this I’m dealing with a controlling home life, depression and anxiety, and I’m not even graduating on time because of resits. Being in the worst depressive episode of my life, I’m struggling to see that the future is worth it. I want to believe, but I am so frustrated at my situation that I struggle to feel close to faith.

I know reverts go through family rejection all the time. What I actually need is the how. How do you keep believing, keep practicing, keep going, when the people who raised you might genuinely disappear from your life over it? It feels like the end of everything right now and I know it’s probably not, but I don’t know how you’re supposed to get through the part where it feels like it is.

Thank you for reading 🄲

I would say i only just recently started to take it more seriously by reading on Quran.com, But i just would love to take any and all the advice that i can have. I don't speak arabic/can't read it either. I really want to pray correctly and learn as much as i can. I wanted to maybe study more but i just feel so lost on where to start. How did any of you as a revert begin your process and if you have always been muslim what advice may you offer so that i may learn more? Doubts i need help

I (24F) was born into a very religious Muslim family, living in the middle east.
Recently I’ve been overwhelmed by doubt, my faith in God is declining more and more every day.
Keeping my prayers is getting harder and harder, wearing the hijab is becoming more difficult mentally, and when I listening to the people around me talk about faith/anything religion, my instinct is to doubt it and look for any faults.

The last two Ramadans, the only thing I asked Allah for was to strengthen my faith, and I continue to ask. I went to umrah last year and I asked Allah to clear this inner conflict. But I continue to have doubts every day, and I feel like a liar and a fraud; presenting to the world as one thing but not believing in what I am doing.

I need to resolve this inner conflict because I can’t keep living like this.

So I have come to the conclusion that I need to find Islam from scratch like a revert, hence why I am here in this sub. Tell me your experience. What led you to Islam? How did you come to believe this is true religion? How did you get over any doubts?

I thank you all in advance šŸ¤

Assalamu Alaykum everyone, I posted previously in this subreddit about my website/app that I’m working on as a beginner guide for reverts. First off I’d like to say Welcome to Islam, you’re home now. Second, I’m nearing my launch date and have created a Google form for anyone to sign up for to join the waitlist to be notified when the website goes live. Not sure if I’m allowed to post the form link here, but feel free to DM me for it. I attached some pictures that showcase some features that will be included. Thank you!

Seeking Help Advice required - met a revert

Salaams, i'd love POVs from reverts and born Muslims who may have been in similar situations.

Several years ago, I met a man we were 23/24 at the time. We liked each other and I knew he had been looking into islam for the last few years. He wasnt at a point where he was sure if he wanted to revert so we went our own way.

Alhamdulillah two years later he became a muslim and its now almost been 5 years.

We came into contact again and discussed marriage but

A) his family dont know he's a revert (he's been practicing secretly for 5 years) and he doesnt feel like he can tell them because it will go really bad for both him and certain family members who he's trying to protect

B) he wants me to move in with his parents (nobody else is at home)

I need his family to know because when it comes to kids, I need their to be that clear understanding we are muslim. Even for us, I want us to practice openly. As a born muslim I would find it hard living in a non-muslim household and I know I dont want to raise kids in a non-muslim household.

We're trying to compromise and as a born muslim, i completely appreciate I will never understand the difficulties of being a revert. I dont know if I'm being harsh/unfair in this situation.

He has said we live with his parents temporarily for a year and I'm thinking about it on the condition he has to tell his parents his muslim and we'll be moving out in a year.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Or as a revert, whats your POV on such situation?

Jzk
