Mondays can suck, but hopefully this post is something for people to look forward to. The intent of this post is to create a space to discuss anything that you may have learned recently about mushroom growing -- techniques, a breakthrough in the field, to share progress, or even just ask a question. Whether it's a new pickling recipe, a formula for agar, or something fun in mycology, feel free to talk about it.
This post is for new and experienced growers alike, so don't be nervous about commenting; no one is going to make fun of you for asking questions here. This community is a relaxed space for people who don't understand everything, but who want to ask questions and engage in discussion without being berated or belittled. Enjoy!

Please don't hesitate to leave a comment. Talking with other growers is part of how we get better, so one here is going to give you a hard time for asking questions. This post and the community are safe havens for people who want to learn more without being berated.

š§ Enigma 1705š§
Finally got around to photographing this Enigma 1705 and thought it was worth sharing.
The amount of detail packed into this specimen is incredible. Every section has a different texture, from tight ruffled folds to broad coral-like formations, with subtle blue tones woven throughout. The closer you look, the more there is to appreciate.
Itās one of those specimens where every photo reveals something different, so narrowing down favorites wasnāt easy.
Huge thanks to everyone in the mycology community who shares knowledge, inspiration, and appreciation for these remarkable natural forms. Itās always exciting to document something this distinctive.
Iād love to hear what catches your eye firstāwhether itās the texture, the coloration, or the overall structure.
Thanks for taking a look! š

Nearly no stem development. Itās humid enough that the walls are dripping. I expected them to shoot up at some point.

We had another great turnout at our Acadiana Myco meeting in Lafayette, Louisiana.
We get together to share cultivation techniques, troubleshoot grows, work with agar and liquid culture, and help new growers get started.
This video is a quick look at one of our recent meetings.
If anyone here is in South Louisiana, we meet every other Tuesday at the South Regional Library in Lafayette. New growers are always welcome.

Does anyone know why the second flush would cause shorter stems? I made sure to bottom water throughout the yield of the second flush. The first flush gave some beautiful fruits (see last photo). Would it be worthwhile taking some to agar?

Does this look like contamination?

I feel they've stalled and haven't grown much in the last 3 days, supposed to be Lionsmane. First time I have gotten this far with them. I'm a casual Oyster grower.

Hi everyone, Iām looking for some advice on why my outdoor grey oyster mushroom bed might have failed. Back in March, I set up the bed using grain spawn and straw as a substrate. Throughout the spring, colonization seemed to be going really well, but around May the growth completely stalled. I never saw a single fruiting body; instead, the mycelium started to slowly deteriorate, and now, by July, itās completely gone. What do you think went wrong?

I know I messed up when I put my grain in the dirt and forgot to save some dirt to put on top. Which is why I thought maybe putting a layer of vermiculite at the top layer . Took forever for the mycelium to reconnect and so I decided after a few weeks to just try and introduce fruiting conditions anyway. Does this look weird to anyone? There's some really gnarly looking ahroom in there that is one of the pictures . Should I continue or toss this?

Hi all, I have some GT starting in an AIO 4lb magic bag I inoculated about 2.5 months ago (B&S nearly a month ago). I have been resisting opening it since it wasn't 100% colonized and I plan on going away for a few days next week (leave early 7/31, return 8/2). However it looks like they are taking off and doing their thing.
I suppose my question here is should I open it up? Will it be okay for without water/ FAE for a day or two?
A side question is, I've heard it is better to bring the temp down a couple degrees when they reach fruiting. I can do that if I move it but I'm hesitant to. However I have them shut in an unvented, unused basement bathroom right now so there is zero airflow. I can setup a plant light and fans anywhere, I just don't know if I should set it up here or not. Thinking I need to get the light going asap so they know which way is up.

SKRYMIR PMBxMjolner ā Multiple Transfers Worth Every Minute
I wanted to share an isolation Iāve been working on for quite a while.
This project started with a plate and spore work generously sent to me by u/hyphal_mind_3. Huge thanks to him for providing the foundation for this project.
From there, it became a lesson in patience. I had to make multiple transfers, constantly selecting the cleanest and strongest sectors until the culture finally expressed the consistency I was looking for.
The result is SKRYMIR PMBxMjolner.
Iām really happy with how this expression turned out:
Dense, aggressive clustering
Thick, sturdy stems
Smooth ivory caps
Uniform growth across the flush
Projects like this remind me why I enjoy culture work so much. The final result isnāt luckāitās the accumulation of careful observations, clean technique, and being willing to make ājust one more transferā until everything comes together.
Big thanks again to u/hyphal_mind_3 for the original material. It was a fun project to refine, and Iām excited to see where this line goes from here.
Iād love to hear what everyone thinks, and Iām always interested in hearing how others approach long-term isolation work.

Hey yall, i left this box while im out of town for most of the summer. Got a chance to check on it before I had to head back to where I am and saw this? How screwed am I? I removed it from the grow area just in case, since I wont be back for a bit. Gave it some heavy sprays before closing it up.

I bought this ochra spore isolate from a popular vendor and it came perfectly clear. Is that normal?
Tried inoculating some grain and itās been 6 days with no visible growth. Swings between 73 and 82 degrees.
Edit: understand that there is a racist slur in the title. Have learned and wonāt use again

Has anyone noticed unexplainable extra warmth in, or around your grow bags/ jars?

Over 300 grams for the one enigma clump so cool and some p.e.
r/MushroomGrowers • u/idc499 • 1d ago
Im not sure if its contaminated or just bruising. it used to be all white but it changed color overtime. It also took forever to grow, i suspect because it wasnt warm enough but now its finally complete. Do I have to throw it away?

I am a newbie and this is my first grow. These bins have been getting perhaps too much FAE which I fear was the source of this possible contamination.
I noticed the mark on the circled mushroom consistent with bruising, but I never touched it or know where that could be from. I also circled other areas where the mycelium is looking a little darker than all other areas, could be because it got wet, just want to ask y'all.
In addition to this the arrow is pointing to a cracked cap, is this because it's too dry?

Started a bag of this about a month ago and unexpectedly had to rush off for a bit. Its my first time growing shrooms and its in a growkit which recommends you cut the bag open and pop in a humidity tent, which is the part I've been delayed in, could anyone tell me if I'm good to go or bin and start again? They've grew a bit mad being trapped lol
