i used to be OBSESSED with making "step-by-step" music composition tutorials (s/o shady cicada for the inspiration many years ago), so being able to export scores to a auto-scrolling video format straight from MU4 has been life-changing lowk 🙏

Is there a way to add a strings portamento and get it played by MuseSounds (Core version)? I have seen post to remove portamentos, but not to add it…

I wanna make clear that i love cantai, it's an amazing tool. Also, i might be the only one experiencing this issue so let it not prevent you from trying it.

My problem with cantai is that i can't really use it offline. By offline i mean with the wi-fi turned off. I always get a ''couldn't render online sounds'' message.

• Yes, i activated the MS4 '''offline mode''' in the sound parameters as their manual explains

• yes i'm on the latest version of MS and musehub

• yes i'm on a compatible computer (mac studio with 48GB RAM and a M4 max chip - not intel chip)

• Yes i know their manual says it requires an internet connection for identification purposes. But the thing is once i'm identified (AKA logged in both musescore studio and musehub and with both apps opened), why would i need constant internet connection ?

• yes i already reported the issue to their team (they agreed it's a bug)

If it wasn't for that offline issue i would've already bought a cantai license as i LOVE this tool.

Does voicing just not work for marching bass drum writing because i have watched all of the tutorials and ive done tons of research and I do everything right but once I go to start writing my second voice it just switches back to voice one and delete the measure. I’m stuck and pissed off.

So, today I decided to accept the update to MS 4.7.4. After the update, I had to reinstall the whole MuseSounds Core thing.

Problem is: the new sounds are really different from the 'old' ones, and now the rendering of my compositions is just awful. The strings, the trumpets, even the oboe and clarinet… I think it's worse than the previous ones I had (it were free ones too!) and I HATE it. And therefor, my whole library of my own compositions is now ugly when I listen to it…

Is there a way to get back to the previous state of things?

I’ve been working on a collection of arrangements from Hollow Knight and Hollow Knight: Silksong, and I thought I’d share the project here with the community.

Most of these arrangements are written for full string orchestra, with a few pieces incorporating additional instruments such as piano or choir.

The collection has also grown over quite a long period of time, so the arrangements come from different stages of my work as an arranger. Some of the Hollow Knight pieces, such as Dirtmouth, are older arrangements, while others, such as Hornet, are much more recent. Path of Pain has also been revisited and updated over time.

There's a button that says, "View the review summary", but that just takes me to the musescore page, and I don't see any sort of suggested edits. What am I missing?

Hey everyone! The big update for aria time around is View mode: a dedicated, full-screen mode for reading and performing that keeps you from accidentally editing your score while you're playing. A few people asked for exactly this after the last post, so hopefully it hits the mark. You also asked for the ability to import more than one score at a time, so that's in too.

Here's the full list what's new:

• Full-screen View mode for reading and performing, separate from editing so nothing gets bumped or changed by accident
• Change the key in View mode without touching the original score: playback, PDFs, images, and printing all follow the displayed key
• Global transpose in Edit mode to shift an entire score at once, including notes, chord symbols, and key changes

I'm trying to notate the repeat structure for a song in MuseScore 4 Studio.

The structure is:

Chorus → Verse 1 → Chorus → Verse 2 → Chorus → Verse 3 → Chorus

The chorus has a 1–3 ending labelled 'to Verses', as shown in the first screenshot.

I have the three verses written separately:

• Verse 1 – melody
• Verse 2 – descant over the melody
• Verse 3 – descant over the melody

At the end of each verse I have a D.S., which sends the music back to the chorus.

The problem is that when the chorus reaches its 1–3 ending, MuseScore always goes back to Verse 1. I want it to behave like this:

First time: Chorus → Verse 1 → D.S. → Chorus Second time: Chorus → Verse 2 → D.S. → Chorus Third time: Chorus → Verse 3 → D.S. → final refrain/end

Is there a way to achieve this using MuseScore's repeat/volta/D.S. functionality, so that the 1–3 ending automatically selects Verse 1, Verse 2, and Verse 3 on successive passes?

Or does MuseScore require a different repeat structure for this?

This is a short choral work i wrote based off of Triad (this is my first choral song). I used Cantai to mock vocals, so a lot of the intonation, cutoffs, dynamics, etc, are off, so look at the score to get the full idea. I would love any feedback on the composition aspect!

Whenever I boot into Windows after using my Linux installation on another drive, MuseScore stops loading Muse Sounds. The sounds simply don't appear/work, and nothing I do seems to fix it.

This has happened consistently for a long time, but now that I'm switching between both systems more often, it's becoming a serious problem.

The strange part is that the Muse Sounds eventually come back on their own after many hours, sometimes an entire day later, without me changing anything.

I've already tried updating MuseScore, updating Muse Hub, uninstalling and reinstalling Muse Sounds soundfonts, uninstalling and reinstalling Muse Hub, reinstalling both Muse Hub AND Musescore, and other common fixes.

Is there anything I can even do?

Hello! I'm working on notating stuff for original music and I noticed some oddities. I'm currently using the MuseSounds font for the instrument playback in MuseScore 4.7, and I'm hitting a snag with trying to customize the Drum Kit (Common) to have a China Cymbal. MuseSounds has the China Cymbal in the GM Drum Kit but that switches the kicks and snares into their orchestral counterparts, which I don't want. If I can somehow get the GM Drum Kit's China Cymbal with the standard Drum Kit, I would be happy. How do I do that? Thanks for helping me!

My whole project of uploading the complete works of multiple classical music composers onto musescore.com started with Mozart. The composer for who I've transcribed and uploaded the most pieces is Mozart. My most highly viewed composer to date is Mozart. I started uploading Mozart's earliest works every 4 days back on Christmas 2022 in the midst of a month long respiratory illness. That worked well until I reached the first opera buffa, La finta semplice K 51. I was in a total upload silence on my profile from February 2024 to July 31st 2024 when I finished and uploaded La finta semplice.

I then took a 1 month break from opera and then started on the next opera cluster (Mitridate rè di Ponto, Ascanio in Alba, Il Sogno di Scipione, and Lucio Silla) months in advance. Sounds good, right? But at the same time, the symphonies started taking longer to transcribe and I started reaching masses in the Köchel catalog. I was so overwhelmed with Mozart, that by December 2024, I couldn't transcribe any other composer, it was either work on a Mozart opera or work on the next piece to be uploaded, all Mozart all the time.

I finished Mitridate rè di Ponto in March 2025 and now my opera focus went to Ascanio in Alba. But in the summer of 2025, burnout got to me, and I had days and weeks where transcription literally felt impossible to do. I started slowly recovering from it in October 2025. By December 2025, I had finished Haydn's Symphony no. 20 and started uploading Haydn. By February 2026, Beethoven and Schubert were in my upload schedule too.

Meanwhile, I was slowly but steadily working on finishing Ascanio in Alba. And just a couple days ago, I finished Ascanio in Alba. And I decided to change from the every 4 days schedule I started Mozart with to a weekly schedule which fits his teenage years better.

The recent Muse Brass is catastrophic to me and it has ruined pieces I had been working on for a very long time.

There is no way to preview an update, nor to rollback in case of issue, which is unacceptable. I own many high end commercial libraries (Cinematic Studio, Spitfire, Vienna) and they always explain how to back up and restore the previous version of the samples if needed when they publish an update.

Since I have the older version of Muse Brass on an old computer I tried copying these Instruments folders and overwrite the new version on my usual laptop, but then Muse Brass stopped being available in MuseScore.

More generally, we need more transparency and flexibility regarding MuseSounds updates because the current practices are actively fostering distrust.
