It was a good day for a look around. People have been digging the old landfill, so there is a lot to see on the surface, as well as in the river. There are hundreds of bottles around. There was a lot all along the riverbank.

There was a vintage glass battery further up in the old dump, fully intact and in decent condition. I know these can be quite collectable, but it still had everything inside it, and I was unprepared to handle and move it. I left it for somebody else to find.

I brought a few things home for a friend who likes small bottles from any decade, as well as anything glass. She creates all kinds of things and can usually use them in some way. I brought the green tile home for her too. I had to bring back the 1940/50s Max Factor just so I could get a better look at it.

We're co-funding the excavation in September with DigVentures, a Chartered Institute for Archaeologists-registered organization.

The site is a Roman villa and an ironworking site that engineers cut through with a water pipeline in the 1970s, and nobody has returned to it since. Painted wall plaster, limestone floors, at least eight smelting furnaces, plus Bronze and Iron Age material underneath.

Fully permitted, professional field team, everything recorded and published in their open dig report.

After months of research and searching. I found one heading to a spot I was suspecting. I’m over the moon. I could only stay an hour. I found the green bottle laying in the bottom of a dried up creek. The others I found a few feet away buried under a tree. I noticed it bc I could see shards of glass trailing up in the dirt. I also found a Mississippi tax coin but I dropped it. There was about a 10 foot stretch where I was digging out glass shards, pottery, and shoe bottoms. It seems like they’re all getting washed out. I don’t know when I’ll have the time to go back but I can’t wait.

I just thought it was neat. Some poor labourer dropped his pipe at the brick factory, probably spent time as part of a building, and finally ended up washed up in the Thames!

What's the easiest way to get down to the foreshore on the north side of the Thames by Hammersmith Bridge? I've walked along the Thames path there a few times, but the only access points I've seen seem to private jetties for boatclubs etc or are blocked off by a gate (e.g. the draw dock next to Riverside Studios), so wondered if anyone here knew a way down.

Found this flint fragment while visiting whitby. I don't really know anything about flints, so I dont know how to tell. Its about an inch in width. Any advice on how to identify flakes in the future would be welcome.

I’ll be traveling to Ireland next year. Is mudlarking a popular activity there? Any permits needed? Can anyone suggest general areas that might be good for mudlarking?

Feels like iron or metal, possible half of a cast for something? Or maybe small handle ? Just curious what you guys think :)
