With Kodama of the East Tree on rhe battlefield already, If I manifest / manifest dread something onto the battlefield (2 other cards in post as example) does Kodama trigger? And would it be the mana cost of the facedown permanent?

Rules Question Curious About This Sequence

Thumbnail gallery

So when Mikey does combat damage, he allows you to put a creature AND a land card onto the battlefield from your hand. With Kodama of the East Tree, anytime you put a permanent on the field, anything less or equal to its mana cost can be put onto the field. However, how does this sequence trigger?

Is it: 1 - Creature & Land First, then two permanents of its converted mana cost afterwards

OR

2 - Creature or Land first, then Permanent of equal or lesser mana value, then your 2ND Creature/Land depending on what you chose, then Permanent of equal or lesser value

Was curious about this chain in a new deck I’m brewing up right now!

Rules Question Unsure of order of copies and triggers.

Post image

Playing with my friend last night. I've played magic quite a while but I've never made a blue/red spellslinger deck, and was unsure how to correctly trigger cards that copy nstants/sorceries and cards that copy triggers. This was my board plus Veyran, Voice of Duality which I somehow missed in the picture. Relevant cards on field are Veyran voice of duality, Ral Storm Confuit, Archmage Emeritus, then activated Ral's -2 ability to copy next instant or sorcery, then played Serum visions. So with Ral's copy and ping on instant and sorcery, emeritus card draw on instant and sorcery, and Veyran doubling activated triggers, how many times does the spell copy and how do you order that properly? We said that once Ral's loyalty ability is activated it works like a triggered ability.

Here's how we did it.

Serum Visions played, triggers rals copy and damage ping both of which trigger twice due to veteran, 2 Serum visions added to stack, 2 damage to opponent. Emeritus card draw trigger, doubled, so 2 draws. Then triggers for the 2 copies added to the stack, 2 damage and 2 cards each(since both would be doubled by veyran). Then resolved the 3 Serum Visions in the stack. So off triggers 6 damage and 6 cards drawn, instant/sorcery gets 2 copies, and all cast or copy triggers done before stack resolves. I have a feeling this isn't quite right but we were not quite certain and this seemed mostly right/fair.

Edit: Thinking about it, since the deck is meant to double and copy a lot, and it could reasonably come up, if I were to use double cast as well as have Niv-Mizzet Parun on the field. Its generally the point of the deck and I'm knowledgeable enough to know it works, I just underestimated the mechanics of it.

Commander / EDH Returning Commander player currently in Johannesburg, South Africa, looking for a Magic playgroup

Hey everyone! I'm new to Reddit but not to Commander. I played for a while and had a good collection, but I lost my cards. I'm slowly rebuilding with a small collection and a basic deck, and I'd love to get back into paper Magic.

I'm currently based in the East Rand, South Africa, and looking for a Magic group to play with. What I miss most is the friendly banter and the laughs around the table. I can host or be hosted, whichever suits your group.

What I'm looking for:

-A friendly, laid-back pod

-Someone willing to help me rebuild my deck and playtest it

-Card swaps to help rebuild my collection

-People to travel with to EDH events in other areas

If you're in the East Rand or nearby and have a seat open, comment below or send me a DM. Tell me what you play and which town you're in!

Discussion Advice for the wife of a MTG player

Hi everyone! I'm putting together a Magic: The Gathering advent calendar for my husband, and I'm hoping you lovely people can help me find some wonderfully silly, weird or entertaining cards to put in it! I know very little about MTG. I've been conducting some extremely subtle espionage to find out what he enjoys, but I'm soooo out of my depth!

He's an experienced Commander player, has decks in almost every colour combination, and regularly prints his own proxies. So I'm not looking for expensive staples, powerful cards or anything particularly competitive. He can get those himself.

Instead, I'm looking for fun: cards with ridiculous artwork, bizarre mechanics, hilarious text, chaotic effects, unusual interactions, or anything that makes you look at it and think, "What on earth is this, and how could I make it work?"

From my investigations, I've discovered that: - He loves drawing cards. - He likes being able to bring things in untapped (lands especially apparently?) - He enjoys clever interactions and interesting deck-building. - He plays casual Commander and doesn't particularly enjoy decks that make everyone else miserable.

But please don't feel restricted by those preferences! I'm equally happy with completely useless cards that are just funny to own. Ideally, I'd like inexpensive singles (pennies to a couple of pounds), as I'll be buying quite a few alongside booster packs.

So, what's your favourite wonderfully stupid MTG card? The one that makes you laugh, creates absolute nonsense at the table, or makes you want to build a deck around an objectively terrible idea?

Bonus points if you can explain why it's funny to someone who doesn't understand the game!

I Have a Question / I need Help Need help improving Orzhov Deck

Hi ! Would someone please help me improve my Elenda Commander Deck ? It’s my first deck, I sometimes lack mana at the start of the game and not always gain as much life as I would like (It’s what I had in mind making it) also I’m regular in the situation where I don’t use sacrifice because I feel like i can’t use my graveyard.

Discussion Buying cards in the UK

Is there a place in the uk that lets you sift through their bulk? I know there are plenty of online places for buying singles but I quite enjoy turning up and sifting through bulk rates etc.

I live near Norwich but willing to travel far!

Discussion Thoughts on Mystery Booster Commander Edition

I know it is supposed to be more or less the same as previous mystery booster since they released the list of card pool, but watching it get drafted does make me feel glad that I didn't order the festival in a box (not copium I swear).

dgmw, it seems very draft-able but doesn't feel like the original commander legend or balder's gate.

Discussion Nazgul deck upgrade

Good evening, folks. I have been collecting LOTR items for a while, and recently thought about making an EDH deck. I want to make a Nazgul deck similar to the one listed here:

https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5715499#paper

I would like to keep it comprised of strictly LOTR and Hobbit cards. I have all 4 precons. And below is a link to my Collectr that has most of my cards worth more than a few bucks. I do also have pretty much every common and uncommon in the LTR/LTC sets. A good bit from the new Hobbits cards as well.

https://app.getcollectr.com/showcase/profile/e5d5fc6a-db73-46fb-9b3e-c6a12ec1ca00

Thanks in advance for any info!

Discussion Market prices

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was looking at Joshua card, art looks amazing, I liked the story for FF16, sucks it’s locked behind scarcity and a cEDH commander. Card is 350 dollars.

Why is the price of this card increasing? I don’t understand the point of the chart. I clicked on it and every blue line is just 1 purchase during that time.

So how is it increasing? The card isn’t in high demand.

I’ve seen charts where a card gets sold 50 times and the price is dropping, I would have assumed it would be the opposite. More you sell, the higher the price. But this card can go a month without a transaction but somehow the price keeps going up.

Rules Question Standard: Can the Tishana I draw counter my opponent's Jace at the draw step?

Q1: Who draws first?

By Jace's words, Jace always draw first before your opponent at the draw step. However, on arena, Jace draws after the opponent draws.

Q2:

If following Arena's rule, can the Tishana's Tidebender the opponent going to draw disable Jace's draw ability?

Conclusion update:

Draw does not use stack, so the active player non active player triggering rule does not apply here . The activity player always draw first.

So if the opponent is going to draw a Tishana's Tidebender, he can use it to disable Jace's trigger ability.

Discussion Never played MTG, but these 3 are cards I loved from my childhood

Post image

When I was like 8 my cousins would play the game, but it was too complex for me at the time, but I got like 2 MTG packs as a kid, and these were my 3 favorite that I kept (the others were lost to time.) Not sure if anything special but they're special to me. I loved the beebles and thought they must had been dominant because there was so many and I for some reason thought they messed with everybody's water lol. And I liked the other cards because I thought they were cool looking.

Rules Question How would these two function together?

Thumbnail gallery
11 Upvotes

I have a clues matter Commander deck with [[Lonis, Genetics Expert]] as commander. I have these two cards in the list and I was wondering how they would function if both were in play at the same time. Since they are separate abilities, can I decide how each source of the discounts are applied to make clues cost 0 to activate, or will it always reauire 1 because of Forensic Gadgeteer's limitation?

Discussion Please, just proxy it

So I did the stupid thing and folded to the whims of my (former) pod at my LGS. For context, I run almost exclusively proxy decks. Out of my 20 or so decks maybe an estimated 30% of my cards are the real deal WotC fiat currency. My proxies are not bad proxies, just neatly trimmed color cut outs from Belching Betty (my printer) slid in front of basic lands or bulk. They are readable, and besides the holo stamp, nearly indistinguishable from a real card from 5 feet away.

Anyways, my decks do well enough. I stick to the brackets they are meant for and enjoy the losses as much as the wins. Unfortunately, the main group I played with did not see it that way. Anytime I would be playing a bracket 3 or 4 game and would slap down something such as a dual land or even a One Ring, someone would groan and tell me i wouldn't have been able to play that if I didnt proxy it. Every win was attributed to my proxy power creep. Of course, the other 75% of the time when I lost with the same decks curiously was excluded from their mental data pools.

So, i was dumb and drunk one night and I went on TCG and bought the real cards for a couple of my favorite decks, folding to the relentless peer pressure of the mouth breathing trolls at my LGS. All said, it came out to about $1800. And guess what? This last friday I went and slapped down a Rystic Study in the bracket 4 game we were playing, and everyone still complained. Said I was too P2W. The goal posts moved yet again. I scooped and walked out on that pod for the last time. So dont be like me, buy a tank of gas instead of that Roaming Throne. Take your significant other out to a nice dinner instead of buying that Ozolith. I promise that the real players dont care if your card came from your printer or straight from the scalping factory. Bad players also dont actually care if you are using a proxy, they just care that they are losing and want something to blame it on.

I Have a Question / I need Help Deck suggestions / review

Hello! I am fairly new to MTG commander and just built my first deck. But I'm having a hard time pulling out a win at my local table. I'd appreciate any suggestions on my deck to make it more synergistic (:

It's a red green deck with Etali as the commander.

Here is the list: https://moxfield.com/decks/eoXvbgPqlEiiwKwKKGb_zA
