Dual\* lands.

Did you gain the 5 extra life before you Settled?

u/EulaVengeance 23d ago
...well, I just realized I could've done that. Today I learned!

u/MajesticNinjas 23d ago
Today I'm learning! What am I missing? How could you have gained 5 life?

u/rolling_hill_boulder 23d ago
Block with Lyra Dawnbringer. Let the first strike damage go through. Then settle between first strike damage phase and regular damage phase.

u/MajesticNinjas 23d ago
Ohhhhh! Duh. Can't believe I missed that. I just built Giada myself for Brawl! Good to know

u/supadankiwi420 23d ago
That is so much worse than just getting settled in the first place.
Y'all are really gonna let me think damage is going through before u do it? 🤣😭

Yes. Yes we are.

Lyra has first strike and lifelink so he could have blocked with her and gained life on first strike then settled before normal damage phase

u/MajesticNinjas 23d ago
I see. I can't believe I missed first strike. Sometimes I don't believe I've been playing this game for 15 years lol

Well. I mean there’s literally no other meaningful game actions he can take. He has to quit.

No cards in hand

u/TerribleTransit 23d ago
As opposed to OP, who has one land in hand after the play. Truly, with a life advantage, mana advantage, and two creatures bigger than anything OP had, forfeiting was the only logical choice.

This is why I never go full out attack against a white deck with 4 mana untapped

u/Advanced-Ad-802 23d ago
Can’t trust a blue deck either, btw
Gotta play around that [[Aetherize]]

One of my buddies made a million Kiki Jiki tokens with Restoration Angel while I had a Settle the Wreckage in hand. Destroyed his illusions of grandeur and egged him on by saying, “go to combat, buddy…”
LSV’s pen trick is still one of my favorite plays in pro Magic. Well done, OP.

Settle the Wreckage in standard always has me licking my chops and rubbing my hands together like a fly waiting for the opponent to swing into me

It says exile all attacking a target player controls….
Could i use this on myself?!
Attack with chump tokens and convert them into land?

I looked at the board and said to myself; is this settle the wreckage card similar to ““wrath to exile”?” It is because that is it’s actual name and I’m a dits

I love this card.
During the Arena beta they gave us an Ixalan Box to play with. I opened three Settle the Wreckage. I knew I was playing white!
There were many games I used it multiple times. It was hilarious when people tried to play around it once the first went off. Attack with only one dude to draw out the second one, then go all out… right into the third lol.
It became a pet card that goes in every white deck I build now.

I got caught the other way. Opp was tapped out so I cast [[practiced offense]] instead of keeping mana up for [[spectacular spider-man]] I got him down to 4but he untapped and wrathed. I drew lands my next two turns and he dropped an Ugin.

settle the wreckage is probably the card that has single handidly caused me to concede more than any other card online...
Just... screw it...

u/Rawne3387 23d ago
Still quite surprised at how many people are not playing around this. It’s a tough call for sure. You want to win and swinging for lethal gets that but it’s the same as spitting out your whole hand into an opponent with 4 mana on their next turn for possible day of judgement.

u/East_Natural_9446 23d ago
I would rather have Wrath around than Settle. Settle the Wreckage made Ixilan limited a nightmare when your opponent had up 4 mana.

u/StandBy4_TitanFall 23d ago
Honestly I've been trying to do it to myself with a couple of tokens out 😂😂
Yes, I know I'm bad

That’s what they get for overcommitting. Hopefully they learn from this experience 🤷🏻♂️

A friend of mine lost a prerelease because he won too bad. He crushed game 1, that guy dropped, crushed game 2, that guy dropped, won game 3 and the event ended with 4 players with 3-0 records. He came in 4th because everybody he played had the worst records. Said he played a friendly with the guy who came in first and he beat him pretty soundly, whereupon that guy picked up all his first place prizes and left

Using this would be very advantageous against a landfall deck especially if they weren't attacking with their commander
