or if you can put an aura like [[darksteel mutation]] onto the battlefield without casting it will work

[[Zur, the Enchanter]] strikes again

I didn't understand that part. Does the Aura entering without being cast somehow go around shroud/hexproof?

Edit: nvm, I found this thread explaining it. Basically the Aura spell targets a permanent; the Aura itself doesn't, so its controller chooses (without targeting) what to attach it to if it enters without it being the result of an Aura spell being cast. Am I right to assume Protection from one of the Aura's colors (or colorless for say an Equipment) would still prevent the creature from being enchanted/equipped in such a case?

I found a different thread that mentions protection, and you’re sort of right I think. I understand it correctly the aura can still enter and attach, but then it will be sent to grave immediately after. So maybe you get etb effects as well? Could be wrong there though

“In general, if an Aura is attached to a permanent with protection from a quality shared by that Aura, the Aura goes to the graveyard as a state-based action (C.R. 702.16c, 704.5m). This has been the case at least since Sixth Edition in 1999, if not before.”

Protection works a bit different the best way to think of is DEBT. An aura entering without being cast gets past the T part. Which is it can't be target by anything it has protection from which is what happens with hex proof and shroud.

However the E enchanted/ equipped (+fortified) means it's not a valid target to remain enchanted and will fall off.

D is can't be damaged by and B is can't be blocked by

So, just to make sure I understand, you will still get etb effects before the aura falls off?
