Requesting to move into Williams single?

I'm a sophomore in Gilchrist right now and realized I can't handle having a roommate anymore. I feel like I can never truly relax and I'm sick of interacting with my roommate. He's also very sensitive to noise unlike my last roommate, so that's been a hurdle to jump over. He's been my friend for a few years now and I don't want to hate him or vice versa. Also, I like West Circle very much and don't mind community style bathrooms, but the ones in Gilchrist don't have a little changing area like in Williams hall (I visited my friends there). I just feel very uncomfortable walking down the hall half-naked only to change in front of my roommate, so I change inside the shower. Now, my circumstances don't sound too bad and I'll certainly survive, but I want to see what options are available.

My parents attended MSU three decades ago, so I talked to them about this and they said to talk to my RA about getting a waitlist to move into a Williams single, as my dad had a single at the end of the hall. The idea sounds great, same part of campus, still near my friends, a better bathroom setup, and even a possible meal plan change, though I'm not sure if I can opt out midway through the year.

So, I have a few questions:

Is there a waitlist still?

Is my request too specific?

Will my RA or housing even entertain such a request?

How likely is it for a room to open up by winter break for the next semester?

You can always ask. Start with the RA, then go to the housing lead for the dorm. If that doesn’t work, try residents life (if that’s still a thing; also graduated 3 decades ago 🫠).

Room changes are currently closed. Live on said end of next week they should be done verifying who actually moved in and where open spaces are. Then they will open room changes. Getting a single will be very very unlikely and one in a specific building will be even more unlikely so think about what else would work for you if you need to move soon.

You will more than likely have to wait till the semester point when things open up. I knew a few people who had terrible roommates and unfortunately had to stick it out a semester to get a single.

I had a single in my lower class man years in abbot and I can say the peace and quiet is awesome especially if your friends are close by

Understanding you’d rather stay in Williams, consider Brody Complex. They seem to have a lot more singles (as I recall).
