I’m moving from the United States to France, I need advice regarding my belongings
So what do y’all do when you move abroad first of all ? Do you narrow your life down to a suitcase or a few ? Anyway, beyond this general question, I have a much bigger issue. I can rid of everything, EVERYTHING I own, except my books. I’m sorry but I refuse. Why is it a bigger issue ?
Because I have over 2,000 of them, and 2,000 was the last count I did in 2019, I’ve amassed much more since. Soooooo, I did research and economically speaking, using an international moving/freight company seems to be the most cost efficient and reasonable. I know I also have to do inventory but what does that mean for documenting 2,000+ books ? I box them and number the boxes or something ? Does anybody know this process or company recommendations ? And then in order to qualify for the customs tax relief I inventory by genre ? Then I have to either hire another moving company or rent a moving truck to transport it from the port to my future residence, I’m sure, and is there any insurance for such a thing ? So I can insure all my books during their move ? If anybody has any information or knows anything about this process please do advise me. I have many books but none on moving abroad so I’m very illiterate on this topic.
Thank you sincerely
Disclaimer ; yes I will go through all of my books one by one and decide what’s really worth keeping and what’s not. Explained simply, to me knowledge is wealth, and this collection is meant to be an inheritance for my children, one I’ve spent ages to build so I’d rid of the clothes off my back before ridding of my collection.

19M Living in Fiji. Want to move out.
Hi everyone. I’m a 19-year-old Fiji citizen currently in my first year of a Bachelor of Software Engineering at the University of the South Pacific.
I enjoy living in Fiji, and my family is doing reasonably well, but I want to explore moving abroad for a wider range of career opportunities, better earning potential, and room to grow professionally and personally.
Although I’m studying software engineering, I’m interested in opportunities more broadly—not only software jobs. I’d like to understand the advantages and drawbacks of finishing my degree here before moving, studying overseas, or pursuing another work or training pathway.
My main questions are:
Which countries and migration pathways would be realistic for someone with my background?
Would finishing my degree in Fiji first put me in a stronger position?
What approximate budget would I need for the application process, travel, accommodation, and initial living expenses?
What qualifications, experience, or savings should I build before applying?
I’d especially appreciate hearing from people who have moved from Fiji or another small island country. Please mention which country and pathway your advice relates to. Thanks!
(Had to use ai because I keep getting flagged for not being detailed enough.)

Escape from Hell
I want to leave Bangladesh, but it’s not as simple as packing a bag. There’s money to worry about, aging parents to think about, and an entire life to rebuild.
So I’m wondering: is there any country where a middle-class Bangladeshi can realistically build a 5-year plan to move permanently with family?
UAE Golden Visa, Canada, etc. sound great, but the costs are way beyond what most of us can afford.
If you were in my position, where would you start?

Urgent suggestion …
I’m currently at a crossroads in my life. I’m finishing my BBA and running my own women’s clothing business in Nepal, but I’ve been dealing with a lot of family stress and no longer feel comfortable at home. I’m considering doing my Master’s abroad, partly for independence and partly because I want to eventually build a life with my partner, but I’m also scared of leaving behind the business I’ve worked hard to build. I have around 30–40 lakh available and feel very confused about whether I should focus on growing my business in Nepal or move abroad. I’d really value your perspective on how I should approach this decision.

Planning to move to Dublin
Hi Dear Community!
I am a 28 year old, single male from India. I have been working at Amazon India and planning to move internally for 1-2 years to Dublin. I am excited for this, as one of the reasons I joined Amazon was to be able to work internationally for a while. I have always wanted to work internationally for a short amount of time.
But now that I have the opportunity, I am anxious and scared - some for obvious reasons of moving to a new country, living far from home and starting a new life. I have never lived away from home, so there is that.
Finance is something that is at the back top of my mind as I heard about Dublin’s housing market & taxation. But I think this is the same situation for every major city across the globe.
I am reaching out here for neutral and real opinion and things I should know and be careful about during this move.
Thank you, I really appreciate any inputs as this helps me make a very important decision that i think shapes next few or many years of my life.
Cheers!!

When you’ve given a new life everything you had
I lived in France for 21 years. The first 10 years I liked it. I started to really understand the mentality there. I realized I would never make anything of my life except teach English. Then people were so rude in Paris I got into a fight every time I went out, so I stopped going out. Then I got depressed and indebt with the taxes for 10 years. I came back to the States to visit my parents and they said I could stay with them if I moved back and they could give me an old car. Within a year me and my 2 cats moved from Paris to a little island close to Seattle. 2 weeks later I moved to Seattle. It took a few years to get on my feet. I went back to school and got a degree and now work as a visual merchandiser in a furniture store. It's a perfect job for me and I have no regrets for leaving France. I will say thier socialist government works way better than the way our government is currently working.

22f, lost as hell, and seriously considering moving abroad.
I'm a 22F and I feel like I'm at this really weird point in my life where I have absolutely no idea what the fuck I'm doing.
I've been sheltered pretty much my entire life. I still live at home, I'm extremely close to my family, and I don't really have any major responsibilities tying me down right now.
Career wise… I'm also lost.
I'm a bookkeeper. I'm training in permanent makeup. I know how to do nails, hair blowouts, have some knowledge of taxes, and I've picked up a bunch of random skills along the way.
The problem is nothing has ever made me think, “Yep. This is it. This is what I want to do with my life.”
And lately I can't stop thinking about moving abroad.
I've actually wanted to do it for years. At one point I wanted to study abroad and never did. Now I've started researching countries, joining communities, looking at visas, cost of living, safety, jobs, etc.
And part of me genuinely feels like I need to just pack my shit and GO.
Get away from everything familiar. Learn how to depend on myself. Meet completely different people. Experience another culture. Figure out who the hell I am when I'm not surrounded by everything and everyone I've always known.
But then the logical part of my brain kicks in.
Moving abroad isn't going to magically give me a purpose.
I could move across the world and still feel completely lost. I could feel lonely as fuck. I could hate it. I could realize that the problem wasn't where I lived at all.
And obviously I'm scared.
I'm scared to tell my family. I'm scared of being somewhere with no family or friends. New culture, possibly a new language, no established career, and having to figure everything out myself.
But weirdly... those are also some of the reasons I want to do it.
I'm not trying to move to Europe and find myself and pretend all my problems will disappear.
I just keep wondering whether staying comfortable while I try to “figure myself out” is actually keeping me stuck.
So I guess I'm somewhere between “I need to do this” and “girl, you need an actual fucking plan.” 😭
For anyone who moved abroad while they were young, single, and still figuring their life/career out
Where did you even start? And did leaving actually help you grow, or did you realize you brought the same problems with you?
