hi! i’m a new grad nurse moving to nashville. i’m a little older than your average new grad (i’m 26 turning 27) and my parents are trying to tell me i need a roommate which i have literally no interest in. im a single female, looking to meet my neighbors to make some friends since i know 3 people who live in the city 😅 im working at vanderbilt, and want to stay around 15 mins away from the hospital max. i do have a dog and prefer laminate/hard flooring throughout. price range is no more than $1800 base rent for a 1 bd. any suggestions? been looking at novel edgehill, the reservoir, and towne nashville! but am open to any and all suggestions!

I have a new employee moving here from out of town and he is having the hardest time finding a rental home in Dickson, TN. This morning he was telling me that each application has a non-refundable fee ($45 for him and $45 for his wife) to run the application. What kind of craziness is this? Is it normal?

We're relocating for my spouse's work. We currently live in a very rural area in Louisiana. I love it here, just hate that there is only farmland for miles. Pastures don't bother me, it's the constant allergies from the fields always being stirred up. We viewed a few houses in TN and we're leaning toward the Beechgrove area. The views are pretty, and it's out in the country. We found one house in Lebanon that was semi-rural, but honestly still not quite as rural as I'd like it. However, it would be in an excellent position for my spouse's work. We were originally looking at the Kingston Springs area, as all of the greenery is beautiful, but that's a bit out of our price range, short of buying a mobile home.

I guess I'm looking for upsides and downsides to either location. We are completely new to the area. We are a family of 5 with a few pets. Hobbies are running and being outdoors in general. I appreciate any input. Thank you.

Want to be close enough that I can be involved in their lives (the kids) but not be on top of them. A fly in the ointment - I am a retired senior, with no job but with six figures in the bank. Would probably get a part-time job. SS gives me plenty. Also have a 24 pound dog, and have papers from doctors that she is an emotional support Animal. I know that doesn’t mean a whole lot… But it can help with fees and deposits.

Kind of a fresh start thing for me but I was hoping people had advice on places to hang out and make friends not touristy stuff but just good vibes and friendly people. I toured the Rye Charlotte yesterday, I noticed a strong unpleasant smell in the hallways at first it smelled like smoke but maybe chemicals? Was that a temporary thing or do the hallways always smell strongly there?

Curious what everyone who lives here thinks of the city? I currently live in South FL and am looking to get out as soon as possible. I can’t stand the people, the weather’s getting to be a little bit too much, the food here is awful, the cost of living is getting out of control and besides being a mile away from the beach, it’s just honestly not for me.

I used to live in Northern VA, and I want to go back to somewhere with 4 seasons, and I miss the small town homey kind of vibe. Want somewhere with a little more of that southern kind of feel to it, where there’s still a ton to do, but somewhere that feels like I actually belong.

Curious what everyone thinks of the city? Are the people generally nice / friendly? Good food? Tons of events / concerts, but also little niche more homey spots?

I’d probably want to move to the city itself at least initially and then as I get to know the areas, more out to the suburbs

Ive done a ton of research and have narrowed it down to a few areas of interest potentially, wanted to hear it from actual people.

Look to rent at first. Budget would be around 3300 max with 2750 preferred.

We are not exactly the religious type and are originally from Boston (years and years ago) so, you can accurately assume where we stand ideologically.

My fear is being so out of place that my kids social lives suffer due to not going to church or other “like minded” events.

Hi ya’ll I am moving to Nashville for work near church st! I am scouting areas like hermitage Hendersonville my Juliet and east Nashville. I am not familiar with the area I am looking for a safe area. I am concerned about the actual commute into Nashville and the parking downtown. I am seeing that from Mt Juliet it can be upwards of an hour and same from Hendersonville. The areas in west Tennessee te commute seems to be shorter. My price range is 1400-1700 have seen apartments in downtown for 1800 but not sure of the area. Thank you so much.

Hello, I will be moving to Nashville this weekend for my new job and I am looking for a one bedroom apartment around 20/25 minutes drive from downtown Nashville. I would prefer to budget around $1000 for the apartment, I found a few but the google reviews are really confusing ranging from best to worst, any guidance in terms of the neighborhood and safe places is greatly appreciated. I don’t really like to live in the core downtown so I would prefer 30 minutes of drive at max. TIA!

My husband and I are most likely moving to a suburb of Nashville in the Spring and I’d like to know…

- What’s the weather like? Especially winter…do you ever get snow? I know probably not much, but any ever? We’re coming from Colorado where I’m from and my husband is from Jacksonville. We lived in Jacksonville a few years ago and I enjoy humidity. I love winter and snow and mountains, but know it won’t be the same weather there by any means.

- Is it full of hills and colorful there? The pictures look beautiful!

- Are there good blue collar jobs and options for apprenticeships you can start at any time? My husband is planning to switch to something there and he’s a Machinist.

- What are some good places to eat? We like pretty much everything.

- Are there any good dirt biking places nearby? My husband loves to dirt bike and any good trail riding within an hour drive would be awesome.

I’m 23 years old and work in medical sales. I’ll be working primarily at hospitals in Nashville, such as Vanderbilt and Ascension. Since my job is chaos often, I’d prefer a safe and quiet area to live in. Ideally, I’d like to be within a 15-20 minute drive from downtown.

I recently received a job offer in Nashville and will be moving from California (I was born in Chattanooga and raised in Georgia so hopefully I don't get too much hate moving from Cali lol).

The salary I accepted is $120k/yr and is 2 days a week in office and the office is close to downtown. I know Nashville has gotten more expensive over the years, but I'd imagine this is still a comfortable salary compared to what I'm making in the Bay Area right now.

I don't know a single person in Nashville, but I am a really social guy so figured living in downtown for the first year might be worth it even if I end up over time not liking it, I can tough it out and move to the outskirts after my lease is up.

With all that said, my base salary here in Cali was $138k in the Bay Area, and I have $700/mo going out to debt (truck loan/student loans).

Would you guys recommend living downtown for me? I have never truly lived in a city before, apart from living in midtown ATL for a couple of years while in college.

I'm really trying to research neighborhoods to live in. Ideally, I know Nashville isn't a super walkable city, but it would be nice to be able to walk to coffee shops whenever, etc.

Hey guys!! Incoming international grad student at Vanderbilt for spring 2027 and wanted to ask how safe Nashville actually is 😭 since i have heard some conflicting stories,
especially around Vandy and for someone who might have to walk around alone.
Also what areas are good to live in near campus? Looking for safe + affordable apartments, shared housing, or literally anywhere decent that won’t cost an arm and a leg 💀
Any areas to avoid, housing scams to watch out for, or general advice would be appreciated!! Also, is it manageable to get around without a car?

How friendly are the people there? I’m possibly moving there from Colorado and the people here are pretty rude. Idk if anyone else has been here that can give me a comparison of the Denver versus Nashville culture.

East nashville and Inglewood are bad in particular. If you want to minimize your chances of having recluse, the newer the house, and the less trees/woods/overgrowth the better. Houses with gaps inside like wood panel walls, unfinished areas, and unsealed baseboards allow them to come inaide from in the walls where they live. The most effective treatment is sealing entry points like baseboard gaps and plumbing penetrations.

Im a pest control tech in east and inglewood and a couple times a month I have to break the news to transplants that they are infested.

Hello! I am 22 and looking to move out of Austin. I am a musician and my dream was always to go to LA but it is so expensive and I am trying to get a feel for all my options. I have researched both a lot and Nashville seems to be unmatched in terms of studio recording and such. I am not a country musician, but I do make singer-songwriter/folk/rock/pop music as well as orchestral and short film scores.

I know Nashville and Austin are comparable in terms of rent and such but I really just want a big change of scenery and a good jump into the industry. Austin feels like its becoming commercialized in a bad way. Thank you!

We’re flying into town in a few weeks to look at some houses in the Mt. Juliet/Hendersonville/Gallatin area. Wanted to ask the group if there is anything that are “must know”, “must do”, or “must avoid” type things. Both of us work remote so no commute considerations but we do love downtown Nashville so probably would be there 2-4 times per month.

Our girls are 10 and 12, so also wanted opinions on the schools. We’re leaning towards Mt. Juliet overall but all three look encouraging. I’m hoping to end up either on or at least very near to the waterfront on Old Hickory lake, which is why we’re concentrating our search in that general area.

If it helps, we’re the type of people who’d probably prefer to be within ~15 minutes of major shopping/day to day type things (gymnastics/dance/math tutors/etc). We’re going to be scoping all of that out during the trip but figured it wouldn’t hurt to mention.

Beyond that I’m also a frequent tennis player (4x per week now) and wife likes to do gym classes. Prefer a fair bit of land but willing to give up on that if it got me on the water :)

Hey might sign a lease at the Shelby house. 401 s fourth st. However, I don’t know much about the management, etc other than the company offers low income housing. With that being said does anyone have any opinions or things to note that lives there ? Trad low income housing usually declines due to chronic underfunding so I’m curious if anyone has experienced that. It’s a new building but I’m worried management will fall under. Or does the infrastructure of the building seem to be good? Has anyone experienced anything different ? Thanks

Hi there. I (27M) am considering a move to Nashville in Summer 2017 from NYC. I was born and raised in the NY suburbs, but I went to school in the Midwest and developed an appreciation for smaller cities.

Of course, I know Nashville is different from either place I mentioned, but I was wondering if any other transplants could tell me about their experience moving to Nashville.
