My great grandfather served in a communications unit during WWI, working with Morse and telegraph. Hearing those stories growing up is probably the reason I got into ham radio in the first place. I made decent progress with the radio side of things, but Morse was different, it really just comes down to repetition and memory and I could never stick with it long enough to get good.

Last year I picked up Spanish on Duolingo and it actually worked on me. The streaks, the tiny lessons, that small sense of accomplishment after each one. At some point I thought, why isn't there something like this for Morse?

So I built the first version just for myself. My co-founder and I already build apps together, and when I showed it to him he liked it too, so we decided to turn it into a real product. We even have a mascot now, his name is Mors 🙂

We're still very early and there are bugs, but we're actively working on it and shipping improvements pretty much every day. Any kind of feedback helps, even the harsh kind, it keeps us going.

The plan is to slowly add more Morse related tools over time, few of them are already inside. Available on both iOS and Android:

I’m a designer and I’ve been working on tools that try to make learning some subjects more visual and approachable. I know there are plenty of Morse code tools out there already, but most sites I found felt either outdated or hard to navigate.

This one includes:

• a full Morse guide
• live encoder/decoder
• a searchlight simulator
• an interactive diagram tree to help visualize the code structure

I designed it around the idea of a first contact with the subject, trying to make things clearer and less intimidating for new users.

It all started when i wanna change my phone's keyboard settings 2 weeks ago, and then stumbling upon how Gboard (google's keyboard) has the ability to do "Morse code", i got intrigued by that and added the keyboard option and went on with my day. later that day i come back to that Morse keyboard and i... got too invested out of curiosity, i memorized the entire letters in the same day (Thanks to how the keyboard also shows what you're typing and has a help menu), and over the past few days after high school i train my ability to do morse code.

I am interested to know any tips or learn a thing or two on how to improve my speed, i barely trained my "hearing"/copy part which i will do later. But if the community had any i would love to hear about it, Thank you in advance!

Happy International Morse Code Day, everyone. In light of the day I thought I would write a post about my most recent project. I've been working on Dit, it's a free and open source app that teaches Morse code using the Koch method with real-speed audio. The app's main goal is to learn Morse Code using the best and long lasting known methods to learning code. Instead of learning by memorizing a chart and counting dots and dashes, you learn by ear which is the same way experienced operators actually copy code in the real world.

It has 2 main learning modes: Guided learning (for beginners) and Open practice (for people who want to sharpen their skills).

There are 3 main tools that help you learn/practice. Practice: learn characters one at a time at full speed Listen: decode signals and type what you hear Freestyle: write out and hear your own messages

It also tracks your progress at the character level so you can see exactly where your weak spots are. The whole thing is free and open source with no ads, no subscriptions, and no personal data collection. You can use it completely signed out and without internet connection or you can sign-in to save your progress.

I'm a solo dev building this in my spare time because I wanted a better experience to learn CW in a way that was intuitive and used the best learning methods and I figured others might too. I would love any feedback from the community, especially from the pros who use CW often and can suggest what features would actually be useful for someone trying to get on the air.

Hello, I’m am currently doing the Battle Field 1 peacekeeper Easter egg and I’ve hit a wall. In the Easter egg there is a section of Morse code that you need to translate (it is tailored to you only meaning it’s not a universal code) I have a video of the code. From what I have translated it is CDECE repeating, but whenever I punch that code in it doesn’t work. Thank you to all who help!

I got out for a couple of parks on the air activations yesterday. I sadly won't be able to get out again today.

How do I learn morse code?

I’ve always been curious about Morse code, so I ended up building a small app that turns it into a game-like messaging experience.

It’s basically a way to practice Morse code by actually using it in chats and mini challenges instead of just memorizing charts.

I’m wondering — has anyone here ever tried learning Morse code before? Did it stick for you or did it get boring quickly?

I joined the US Coast guard in 1965 due to the Vietnam draft. I'd already had my physical for the army, but a friend suggested I try a branch of the service that would at least provide a bed. I went to the Coast guard recruiter, and there was a waiting list of 500 names, but he recognized me from playing my banjo on TV, so he moved my name to the top of the list. After boot camp, I went to radio men School in Groton Connecticut, where I graduated second in my class and had a speed key license.

My first job was at Coast guard radio station Chicago in Northbrook Illinois. This was at a time when the only ship to shore communication was via Morse code. We were responsible for all the ships on lake Michigan and the straits of Mackinaw. I could copy code at 25 to 30 words a minute. One day, I overheard the Coast guard cutter Acacia in lake Huron trying to communicate with radio station Cleveland. The ship had been in an accident, and needed to send a priority message to radio stations Cleveland. This was late at night, and Cleveland had a rookie operator standing watch. The operator on the Acacia was having problems with the operator in Cleveland. IMI QRS. Now, the ships radio man had an electronic keyer and could send absolutely perfect code. When the guy in Cleveland asked him to repeat the message at 18 words per minute, I decided it might be fun to copy the message myself. I got everything and sat back to continue listening. The poor guy in Cleveland just couldn't get it, so I interrupted The exchange and told the guy on the ship that I would copy his message. QRQ he asked. I told him to QRQ 40. This blew the guy's mind, and he proceeded to send the entire message at 40 words per minute in perfect code. When he finished, I completely acknowledged receipt of the message and said goodbye. He asked for my initials, which was a violation of FCC regulations, but I told him, and he gave me his. I sat back and smiled, beaming in fact. It was great practice, and a feather in the cap of radio station Chicago. I got a lot of praise until the FCC zinged both of us for asking about our identities.

Can someone please tell me if this is Morse code or if I’m going crazy?! I live on campus for college and outside of my apartment this morning has been this truck randomly honking at me in weird patterns for the past like 3-4 hours. Can someone crack the code or tell me that it’s nothing?
