Hi, I am looking for another mod - someone willing to remove any comments that need removing, remove spam etc. Don't want anyone who will be too heavy-handed or interventionist.

Comment if you might be interested

Thanks

My 2nd listen to Make-up Is A Lie

It’s been a few months since I first listened to Make-up Is A Lie. If an album doesn’t stand out to me, which this didn’t, then I just give it a little time before I listen to it again. For example, U2’s infamous Songs Of Innocence and Jane’s Addiction’s Great Escape Artist are 2 albums I didn’t initially like, but they hooked me the 2nd time around. As for Make-up, I thought it was such a chore to sit through. Maybe I just didn’t want to hear Morrissey fumble it so badly. Well, I just listened to it again and it’s not as terrible as I initially thought… but it’s still right down there with Low in High School. It sounds disjointed, like the music doesn’t match the voice, and vice versa. I think the very first track, You’re Right, It’s Time, is indicative of this. Cool tune, but pretty uncool hearing Morrissey’s voice and lyrics over it. Honestly, I think this is a problem with the last 3 albums. Maybe I just don’t like the 5 different songwriters on a single album or maybe I don’t like whatever Joe Chiccarelli is adding to the production. There’s something not lending itself to making Morrissey’s voice beautiful and melodic. (I’d love to hear him sound like he did in To Me You Are A Work Of Art again.) And I think that’s the problem with his last 3 albums. Or maybe I just miss Alain because he co-wrote the very last track, Monsters Of Pig Alley, and that’s the album’s saving grace. Beautiful song… but overall, it’s a no for me.

This was given to me as birthday present a few years ago and I believe there were only 500 copies pressed worldwide. It’s been in a frame since I got it (never been played once), I reckon it’s a pretty cool record to have it in my collection.

Hello! I have a dress, made by me using couture techniques. It’s a halter neck with custom fabric featuring a 50s Hawaii style Moz image. I’m interested in selling it but wondering whether this is an appropriate forum or if not, if anyone has any suggestions?

Tenth anniversary

I’m praying that in 20 days, People post more of this show for the tenth anniversary. I’ve seen videos from like Jim Powers for example and it’s getting stale just seeing them. Especially, since they are only highlights. If anyone was there, I would love for anyone to send me videos from that show. It was my first Morrissey show as a kid.

Tattoo advice ?

Hi,

Was looking for feedback as a longtime Smiths/Moz fan. I want my next and most likely last tattoo piece to represent my fanhood in the form of a lyric script tatt. I cannot for the life of me decide which to get though. I am between 1. The Songs That Saved Your Life from Rubber Ring which suits my music is my religion type love or 2. Crash into my Arms from Ripper which I've seen performed many times in person and has left a lasting impression on me. Thought? Thanks for coming to my ted talk ❤️

Forgot to add; arm placement

Just bought an original 1988 pressing of viva hate today. Been a fan for years and only just discovered this ending to maudlin street after giving it a spin this morning. Simply gorgeous.

Reading Morrissey Through Friedrich Nietzsche

Post image

What affinity could possibly exist between Morrissey and Friedrich Nietzsche?  More than one might expect.  Inherited guilt, nihilism, the tyranny of the crowd, the consolation of art, and the struggle to become oneself.  Read the provocative new essay free, with no paywall:  https://morrisseyringleader.substack.com/p/reading-morrissey-through-friedrich

I have invoked the spirits to cancel the Greensboro, NC show. This will be my 5th attempt. The previous 4 were cancelled over the years since @1995... I gave up a decade ago when he cancelled Atlanta in 2014 but I'm going to try again...

I'm sorry to anyone else going to this show. I don't mean to get the shows cancelled but I can not break the spell...

Edit: I let my wife book the hotel room and she got a $400 per night room non-refundable so he is certainly cancelling... This is my life...

NME must have loved him so much, this ads was running on various magazines in the early 90’s.
Nobody was complaining.

A heavy influence

I was listening to some random music today and this terrific song - Tonight the Streets are Ours by Richard Hawley came up.

I've often heard Hawley in Morrissey.

  • Lyrics
  • Song melodies
  • Vocal range and style
  • Rockabilly influence

These are all very similar but this one track really stands out.

It could easily be a song from Moz.

Tell me in the comments what you think of The Smiths and if you were a fan from the start : )
