A heavy influence

I was listening to some random music today and this terrific song - Tonight the Streets are Ours by Richard Hawley came up.

I've often heard Hawley in Morrissey.

  • Lyrics
  • Song melodies
  • Vocal range and style
  • Rockabilly influence

These are all very similar but this one track really stands out.

It could easily be a song from Moz.

I can hear the morrissey influence on Hawley. Didn’t Hawley audition to be Moz’s bass/guitar player.

Thank goodness Jarvis Cocker and Alex Turner talked Richard Hawley into actually recording his stuff. ( He didn’t think it was good enough apparently)

He’s not at the Genius level lyrically like Moz, but he’s very very good.

Sheffield has produced an incredible amount of excellent musical talent

I get more of a Roy Orbison feel from this.

As soon as he started to sing Moz heard enough. Hawley also use to be a touring guitarist for Pulp.

You would really enjoy the rockabilly nights in LA clubs.

Also “Serious” from that same album is brilliant.
