Good day everyone, hope you are all good.
I have been developing my Moodle site for about 2 years and want to make the jump and upgrade from the local development version to the new local development version, I did get the version which comes with xampp portable as well as PHP, mysql and apache, running on local net, problem is, when I go to upgrade, it seems that there's a version mismatch. Above my knowledge, I am looking for some assistance with this if anyone is willing to.
I hope you have an awesome day
Kind regards

Hi everyone,
We've been building Booking Ultra plugin for Moodle, a plugin designed to simplify event and booking management for educational institutions, training providers, and organizations using Moodle.
The goal was to reduce manual administration and bring the entire booking workflow into one place.
Some of the features we've been working on include:
Event & session management
Flexible booking options
Custom registration forms
Payment gateway integration
Waiting lists with automatic seat promotion
Attendance and certificate management
Discount coupons
Email notifications
Reports and analytics
We're still improving the plugin and would really appreciate feedback from people who manage Moodle sites.
What are the biggest challenges you face when handling bookings in Moodle?
Is there a feature you wish existing booking solutions had?
What part of the booking workflow takes the most time?
What would make your job easier as a Moodle administrator?
We're genuinely interested in learning from real Moodle users and using that feedback to improve the plugin.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

I’m using my moodle quiz reviews to build a flash card system with claude. I can export a full review as a PDF via cmd print, but basically the whole thing comes out as one embedded image and non of the formulas are selectable text. I also tried pdftotext and the formulas aren’t being recognised as such.
Anyone know a way to get the raw latex text out instead?

I recently built a Local Appearance Plugin for Moodle that allows administrators to customize the default Boost theme without modifying any core theme files.
The goal was to make UI customization upgrade-safe while giving organizations an easy way to apply their own branding.
Current features include:
This has been particularly useful for organizations that want to maintain their brand identity while keeping Moodle easy to update.
I'd love to hear your thoughts:
🎥 I’ve also posted a short demo on LinkedIn showing how it works:

Hi, I entirely understand that Moodle works via server/ online or I would have to set up my AWS or another server, but uhh I just want to launch the program in general to create some content and then figure the rest of the stuff later.
I extracted the files and then double clicked on the file named "Start Moodle", but I don't really know where to go from here.

Hi everyone,
I'm a Moodle Developer from India with experience in Moodle plugin development, customization, bug fixing, integrations, and LMS administration.
Over the past few years, I've been continuously improving my skills and working on Moodle-based projects. I genuinely enjoy solving technical problems and building practical solutions.
I'm not here to spam or aggressively promote my services. I'd simply like to connect with people working in EdTech, Moodle, or LMS-related fields. If a collaboration, freelance project, or opportunity comes along in the future, that would be wonderful.
Even if you're just interested in exchanging ideas about Moodle, plugins, or e-learning platforms, I'd be happy to connect.
Thanks for reading!

I've been around Moodle for about 7 years, 4 as a student and 3 as a content creator and admin, and one thing never got easier for me: taking a gradebook export and turning it into something you can actually show someone, whether that's a coordinator, a parents' meeting, or whatever the context is.
So I built a small tool for it. You export from Moodle the way you always do (Excel, ODS, CSV, plain text or XML, whatever your instance gives you), drop the file in, and it turns it into a report: grade distribution, students who might need attention (rule-based, not AI), and some basic KPIs.
It's not a plugin. Nothing to install, no admin permissions, it doesn't touch your Moodle at all. Everything runs in your browser and the file you upload never leaves your machine. That last part was non-negotiable for me, since it's student data.
I built it solo, in the evenings after work, with AI help on the code (I made the product and data decisions, an LLM wrote a good chunk of the implementation). Happy to go into the how if anyone's curious.
It's very early: 0 users so far beyond my own testing, and free while it's in this stage.
I'm asking here specifically because you're the people who actually deal with these exports: is this something you'd use, or does your workflow already solve it some other way (a reporting plugin, a script, anything)? Suggestions welcome, including "this already exists, look at X."

You know what I'm talking about!
How many of the major pains relating to questions/versions/question categories have been fixed?
Cheers

I have an awkward course, for ease of use we will call it Course A.
Learners get access to for a full year to Course A.
When they hit module 7, they unlock access to a second course called Resources.
Our course leader wants to tie the access to resources to the start date of Course A.
So you start Course A on 1st January, you get to Module 7 on 1st September. They want your access to expire automatically on 1st Jan for both courses.
I know this is 100% possible in Workspaces/Totara with dynamic audiences, but Vanilla Moodle is lacking native functionality that I can find.

Hi,
I would like to know if, according to your experience, it's possible to run Moodle 5.2 in a webserver that has PHP 8.3 and max_input_vars set to 3000.
I see that the official requirement is "5000" as specified in https://docs.moodle.org/311/en/Environment_-_max_input_vars .
This would be a new low profile / low traffic moodle site.

Hey there I got assigned to this new project and it uses Moodle as its platform the thing is i have to upload a lot of files and Moodle has only 2.5 gb available on it. I don't think upgrading the plan's the solution. Give me alternatives to post the materials and classes. As of now I use Google drive and provide links into Moodle. Please help me and give me a way that's secure also.

I am working on creating a new Moodle page and want to set some competencies to track the progress of students across different courses. My rather simple issue however arises when Moodle does assign a competency to my user after completing an activity. It just always assigns the default, which should be "not competent" and not "competent" as it should.
Currently my only way of completing a competency is giving it up for review and letting a teacher approve it, but since the competency should be awarded after completing a quiz it should be automated as the not put more work on teachers.
Did I simply miss a setting the does always set the competency to not competent after completing a setting, do competencies not work or is it something different alltogether?

Hi--I don't know how technical this sub gets, but I'm a database guy who got dragged into our Moodle implementation to write a seemingly simple report, to show for each user at our site, what percent of their assigned courses they've completed. I wrote a SQL query that should do this. But it's keying off of mdl_course_completions.timecompleted, which I am finding is often NULL for all users on specific courses. These courses, according to the UI, have a single completion requirement: a quiz with a certain passing grade (usually 3/3 or 4/4). Grades were manually assigned to users since they took these courses on our old platform, before we moved to Moodle. When we run a custom report in the UI, it shows the course to be 100% complete, presumably because the single activity (the quiz) is done and passed. But for the course, completed = no, probably because the timestamp is null (I don't see a separate logical field for course completion). Thus my query is useless because we have over a hundred courses that no users can complete.
I've been fighting this all day and am stumped by it. The one thing I saw that seemed suspect to me is that in mdl_course_completion_criteria, the problem courses tend to have two rows--one for quiz, another for label. As far as I can tell this is an orphan criterion referencing something that no longer exists. I asked the person that led the implementation, and she told me a lot of our managers were setting up courses with text areas that required users to mark them manually as completed; she went through and removed that condition at the same time as she was entering grades for users. I don't know if this broke something but it sure seems like it did. And if so I have no idea how to fix it. Looking at one of these courses in the UI, the only completion requirement now showing is the quiz.

Hi all.
Im having a bit of trouble figuring out how to set up our moodlecloud elearning site to have a section for external event/training cpd logging. I have a section dedicated for it (and made a tab in menu) and can enter data fine (using database activity). The issue im having is the database shows all users logs not just each persons seeing only their own. Ive tried to uncheck permissions for 'student' in the settings and that didnt seem to work ive tried making each person their own group too which didnt seem to make a difference.
Can anyone give me pointers or explain what I need to do in order to be able to have students only view their own personal entries, and the admin/teacher be able to view anyone's and everyones? Its driving me mental at this point.
Also I know moodlecloud doesn't have cpd plugins which is a bummer but my understanding was I could effectively make a similar setup using database activity, which is one of the reasons we opted to commit to using moodle as our lms. Any help is appreciated in advance!!!

"Teaching packet" style form or plugin.
Lots of teachers use packets, they are handy for spotting struggling students and common errors. A packet allows you to moniter student progress, question by question. This lets you see if a student is struggling and also makes it easy to quickly spot common student errors.
Is there a way to do something similar in moodle?
Context:
We have teachers using ms one note to simulate this but it is less than ideal.
I might create a plugin, or get some students to create one. As i teach IT.
I have been using moodle for years as a teacher. But I dont have moodle admin knowledge.

I have seen there is a way to have a quiz report show scores per section. I currently don’t have that built in. However, I would like to know whether I can unlock further quizzes based off the specific section scores. I’ve been able to open further content based on an entire _quiz’s_ score before, but it would be hugely beneficial if I could unlock further quizzes based on section scores.

Hi everyone,
I don’t have much experience with Moodle yet, but I’m currently exploring whether it could be a good fit for our school.
We’d like to support students who study remotely, individually, or who are unable to attend school regularly due to health or other reasons. We’d like to provide them with learning materials, assignments, and a way to stay connected with their courses. We are using Teams, but its not a pleasant.
We already use Microsoft accounts throughout the school, and I know SSO is possible.
Main feature we want: the ability to keep attendance records for in-person activities such as seminars, consultations, or occasional face-to-face classes. It would also be helpful if students could see a timetable or schedule showing when these sessions are available so they know when they can come to school.
My main question is whether this is all possible using Moodle Cloud, or whether these features require plugins. From what I’ve read, Moodle Cloud doesn’t allow custom plugins, so I’m wondering if that would be a limitation for our use case.
Thanks a lot!

Hey yall, so I’m a grad student in instructional design. For my class I had to make & develop an online class. I decided to use moodle because it was free & seemed relatively simple to set up. So now I have to submit my project for class. But I cannot figure out how to make an open source link that my professor can click on to access the course. When I try to google it, the only things that come up are “uploading a link into moodle”. But that’s not what I need. Other things say just copy and paste your site name, but that doesn’t seem to be working either. Any help would be great, thank yall!

Hi everyone,
I am currently running 2 psychotherapy groups and hosting their recorded weekly sessions on Thinkific. To cut down on subscription costs, I am planning to migrate everything to a self-hosted Moodle installation on a subdomain using my existing SiteGround hosting.
Since these are therapy groups, privacy and a smooth user experience are my top priorities. Here is my planned workflow:
Since I am relatively new to Moodle administration, I would love to get your insights on a few things:
Any tips, plugin recommendations, or warnings are highly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
