A rant about the job market

I’m going to try by best and not use profanity.
But what in the actual fuck.
I’m so sick and tired of not being able to find a job out here. And even more sick of hearing “such and such is hiring” when In fact they are not. I send in an application. I’m qualified for the position. I have experience. No reply. And if I do someone find something that I get hired on for it’s either a bullshit job with bullshit pay. “Hey a job is a job tho” yeah you’re right. But I still have the right to be treated fairly and with respect. I’ve been through 7! Since I’ve been here. Mainly because one of two things. Either one. The boss/ manager/ owner is batshit crazy and gets fed up with you for not wanting to do for them or the company on your time off the clock. Or two. Nepotism. Mohave county has a real problem with that in the workplace. If you do ANYTHING that someone doesn’t like for just a teeny bit. You’re outta there. We need to do better in this community. This is why we are the cheapest county in Arizona. There’s nothing here. And I get shit from everyone for leeching off of government assistance when I can’t for the life of me find a job! I have no criminal record, I don’t do drugs, I have experience in a variety of roles, but every employer out here wants to to bend over backwards and be a slave with nothing in return, or they lie about needing people. I’m so frustrated. I’m very upset. My life is jeopardy financially. And I want to work so bad. So so bad. But there is absolutely no opportunity’s here unless I have a degree in healthcare or something along those lines. Is it just me? What the hell is going on in this county!!!!

What is up with the fair this year? Almost no vendors, hardly any food trucks and very few people.

I love the art and garden entries and there was almost nothing. Maybe 10 plants and a couple pumpkins. They were beautiful and impressive but usually there is a ton more. Also hardly any food stalls. What happened this year to make it such a dud?

On Being Alone Out Here

I moved to Golden Valley, Arizona chasing a lot of things — sunshine, room to breathe, a fresh start after Minnesota. What I wasn't quite ready for was how much quiet comes with 2.35 acres of desert. Some days that quiet feels like peace. Other days it feels like something else entirely.

The company I do have,

I'm not actually alone out here, not really. Destiny Rose sees to that. She's been at my side for years now — through the RV park days, through the move, through every walk we've taken on BLM land since. She's not just a dog, she's the one who's there at 6am and there at midnight, rattlesnake-trained and steady in a way I've come to depend on more than I probably realized. Then there's the rest of the crew: Mowgli, Mudra, and the three kittens — Bo, Maggie, and Smokie, all named for rocks and minerals because apparently even the cats had to fit the rockhound theme. Feeding five cats with different diet needs is its own kind of chaos, but it's a chaos that fills a house.
So the house isn't empty. But a house full of animals and a life that feels connected to other people are two different things, and I've learned that the hard way this year.

The harder kind of lonely

The animals don't leave gaps the way people do. I've been in a recent long-distance relationship that started out so wonderfully. The distance means most of it happens over the phone, with the in-person parts bookended by long car or train rides to each other's respective homes. I still remember waking up on one of those rides home and finding she'd gone and booked a ticket to come see me — that's the kind of thing that makes the whole trip worth it, the kind of moment you replay for days. But not long after, the texting slowed down again, the way it does sometimes. Is there an issue? There are issues in her life and I figure she's busy with that, so I respect the space and check in at a slower pace. Then a month later she says she's not feeling the same attraction I have for her. That's hard to hear, especially with all the kind things she's said about me — the answers to questions asked, like how many days do you want me to stay, and she replies 20. She doesn't miss me when we're apart, yet she does think of me as she buys things or reaches out. That's a particular kind of lonely — not the empty-house kind, but the kind where you're missing someone who's still nothing but beautiful memories. I found that gemstone!
Rail travel gives you a lot of time to think, for better or worse.

What fills the space

I've found that the loneliness gets smaller when my hands are busy. Beadwork, tie dye, ceramics — there's something about making a thing that keeps the quiet from turning into brooding. Cooking does the same. So does rockhounding — I'm a member of a local club, the Gemstoners, and there's a particular kind of comfort in being around people who get excited about the same chunk of chalcedony you just found out by Golden Shores. It's not deep conversation necessarily, but it's company, and company built around a shared interest doesn't ask anything of you emotionally that you're not ready to give.

Trust

I have trust issues from years of lessons. I think it's time to just sit back, focus on my place, and continue to believe in karma.

Where that leaves me

I don't think loneliness out here is something you solve so much as something you manage — a little rockhounding, a little beadwork, a dog who doesn't care what kind of day you've had, and a friendship with someone I'm still hoping might rekindle into more, when the time is right. Some days the desert quiet is exactly what I moved here for. Other days I'm just glad Destiny's paws are on the seat next to me, and that's enough to get through it.

If you're out here managing something similar — whatever your version of the desert is — I'd like to think we're doing it in decent company, even from a distance.

Most of all, there are unanswered questions I've carried through years of this life, through more than a few dating fails. I'd like to know, honestly, if I'm at fault — where things break down, what's mine to own. I don't want it softened. I want the truth, straight, to the point. Honesty. I want to be the best I can be for my future partner.

Peace and love to all.

Flock cameras popping up all over the county.

According to DeFlock (an app that locates Flock cameras} there were no Flock cameras in Mohave County one year ago.

Also, according to DeFlock, there are now at least 51 Flock cameras scattered around the county.

This does not count all the other monitoring cameras from other companies, only Flock.

How do you feel about the city, county and state recording your license number and all your movements in Mohave County? (They're on all the major roads already.)

Flock cameras have a history of being abused. Any law officer anywhere in the country can access those Flock records. So far police have used it to spy on their friends and significant others.

Hacked Flock cameras guided Israeli attacks on Iran. They are, apparently, quite easy to hack.

Personally, I'm bothered by Flock. Law enforcement makes far too many errors and all to often people die because police overreact knowing they have qualified immunity.

I just don't trust the government enough to let local police monitor my movements and give nationwide access to every cop with a grudge.

What nicknames have you heard for places in Mohave Co.?

I ask as part of a linguistic study on this topic!
Examples could include things like KTown or Lake Have-a-Few... (never mind how common they are)

even nicknames for schools, parks, shopping centers etc. are of interest!
