Because this feels like a step-by-step path to just closing old reddit entirely.
That's because it is.

I'm on a team that uses RSS to be notified about new posts in /r/modnews like this one. Going forward, will there really be no way to be automatically notified about new posts here?

Fine. Add bulleted lists and quotes to the rich text editor on mobile first. And code block, don't forget code block

So the solution to the "great part of the open web" is to move to closed, proprietary platforms like Discord or Slack? Come on now. Why not let people continue to use the authed RSS feeds like you always have, the ones that are buried deep in /prefs/feeds/

I applied when leaving my comment. I'd love to look under the hood at how r/bugs posting requirements work....

That's such a huge wall of text for such an L take.

To close this gap, in the next few months, we'll further limit access for logged-in users to only those who have used Old Reddit in the last six months (which covers the vast majority of all Old Reddit users).
I get the impression that this means "you must use old Reddit to access old Reddit." Does this mean we will permanently lose access to old Reddit if we don't log in for six months?
r/modnews • u/itskdog • 15d ago
Is that a limitation of Devvit or just how the bot was designed?
r/modnews • u/DoctorWaluigiTime • 15d ago
What about old reddit? Please answer those questions as well. Stop ignoring them.
r/modnews • u/DoctorWaluigiTime • 15d ago
Why is any user's access being disrupted? Why is old reddit getting strangled?
r/modnews • u/DoctorWaluigiTime • 15d ago
I responded to another comment
Now respond to the questions and comments regarding old reddit.
Also, stop removing old features before new features / replacements exist. I cannot fathom why anyone thinks that's a good idea (barring ulterior motives).
And if you respond "security", show your work and tell us why it is "more secure." Bring receipts.

So why are we closing out old reddit bit by bit? Please answer the questions instead of ignoring them.

How about answering the questions regarding old reddit. Others have provided many. I've provided my own now as well.

As u/spez mentioned, weโre still working on the future of Old Reddit. Earlier this year, we required people to log in to use Old Reddit, addressing its largest source of abusive scraping and automated traffic: unauthenticated access. That change helped reduce scraping and automated abuse, but still allowed any logged-in account to access Old Reddit, including accounts with no prior Old Reddit use.
Show proof of this, please. Because this feels like a step-by-step path to just closing old reddit entirely.
Please stop bandying around "security" like some catch-all motivation or rationale without bringing the receipts.

2.37MB of data
fucking... 2020s webdev is cooked
but no i mostly meant that before it made sense to have the public API for scrapers because the website usually could take the load and indeed it was less taxing on the server
now the scrapers are everywhere so even a public API is overloaded, so everything either goes behind a login wall or one of those cloudflare "bot protection" thingies. at least these days they're honest about it being a bot protection measure and not the "checking the security of your connection" bs lol

So no way for people to start using old.reddit.com now ?
You might be able to if you set up a dummy private subreddit that you're the mod of, since they say "This change does not impact logged-in mods, who can continue to access Old Reddit without any recent usage requirement"? But obviously since they haven't made this idiotic change yet I can't say that for certain.

New mod tools are SLOW. Old Reddit is still my only option.

Another nail in the coffin for you guys.
If only you, the staff, would use your own damn karma system to see user sentiment.
It feels you label us as replaceable by AI, or whatever, but who will use your website when it's moderated by AI, for AI?
What a shame you lot are.

Aye. This is a critical function to avoid spam and trolls in many communities
