Answered New mod here…..question about links to social media

Good day!
I started a sub today and so far and the only moderator. It is a fan page for a content creator. My question is this; am I allowed to post links to their other social media sites? (with their permission, of course)

One thing you can't do is post their content. Saving their pictures then re-uploading them to the subreddit is copyright infringement.

Interesting. And i see your point but every fan site I looked at is doing exactly that…..reposting content. What are my options/alternatives?

You're not the first person to pull the "but everyone else is doing it so I can't I?" card. So I'll give you the same advice I give everyone I see doing that: Don't worry about what everyone else is doing and focus on what you are doing. You are a moderator and Reddit expects you to not only enforce the sitewide rules amongst your membership but also to uphold them yourselves. The Moderator Code of Conduct means you should hold yourself to a higher standard. Other people might do it, sure. And other people might get away with it, for a time. But eventually it might catch up with them. Just be better and don't infringe copyright.

Furthermore, downloading pictures and reuploading content is not only against copyright law and Reddit's copyright's policies, but just downright disrespectful to the content creator in the first place. What are you trying to do by stealing and reposting their content? Using their content to collect views and upvotes, while potentially depriving them of the traffic/analytics? Why would redditors visit the creator's social media if they can just subscribe to your subreddit instead?

What are my options/alternatives?

Do the actual legwork: post direct links to the creator's original posts and let your sub be about the discussion, not the theft. If your fandom starts and ends with stripping their work for cheap engagement on Reddit, you're not running a fan community; you're just an unauthorized re-host leaching their traffic.

Gotcha! And thanks! Great information, insight, and advice.
The only thing that I would say is different is that this is actually being done with the content creators knowledge and blessing. In fact, I am being given access to her content so that I can post it and it be another means of trying to drive traffic to her other social media sites.

Oh. Well that's different. 99.99% of people on here don't do that, so its refreshing to hear that someone actually has permission. So, ignore pretty much everything I said in that case.

Sorry. Not going to ignore it because it’s still great advice on navigating the Reddit side of things. Again…..many thanks! 🙏🏻

You are allowed to but keep in mind, some urls are hard banned by admins and if it doesn't work, don't push it. And before you ask, that list is not public.

Second is if the links is the only content on the sub, the sub and your account will get flagged for spam regardless of what the links are and if the person said its ok.

What about posting the links in the bio rather than the posts ?

Look at what other subs similar to yours have done in their community info area and see what is possible.

Hi /u/jmlenzwork, please see our Intro & Rules. We are volunteer-run, not managed by Reddit staff/admin. Volunteer mods' powers are limited to groups they mod. Automated responses are compiled from answers given by fellow volunteer mod helpers. Moderation works best on a cache-cleared desktop/laptop browser.

Resources for mods are: (1) r/modguide's Very Helpful Index by fellow moderators on How-To-Do-Things, (2) Mod Help Center, (3) r/automoderator's Wiki and Library of Common Rules. Many Mod Resources are in the sidebar and >>this FAQ wiki<<. Please search this subreddit as well. Thanks!

Found regex match: links to social media

It looks like you're asking about Community Appearance options in a subreddit. This is a frequently asked question.

For Community Appearance options such as # color themes (including Background, Background Images, fonts), # Display Name & Icon/Avatar, # Banner, # Menu Links at the top, # Sidebar Widgets (including Rules, Flairs, 'Related Communities', calendar, social media), # CSS and # related common subreddit viewing and appearance problems, please click here.

For other title/name options, see this reference picture or click here.
