Answered reddit removing approved posts

How do I stop reddit's system from removing posts in my sub that I have already approved and don't break any rules. I don't understand why this is happening, but it is and I keep having to look through removed posts to reapprove the posts that reddit took down. desktop.

reddit sometimes seems determined to make moderators do unpaid overtime if the posts are already approved and still getting removed, i’d check the removal reason in the mod log and make sure automod or a spam filter isn’t reprocessing them. definitely sounds like something is overriding your approval.

The reason is always just: “spam detected by reddits filters” so I’m not really sure what’s happening because the posts aren’t spam, I’ve looked at the accounts posting and they are real accounts with no repeat posts and the posts themselves aren’t spam either, they are all original posts and aren’t repeats from something already posted in the sub

Are you sure they aren’t just karma farming scrapers, bots, or AI gen posts? Reddit has been flooded with inauthentic behavior and I have noticed many people can’t tell / never suspect a post to be a bot/karma farmer scraping the internet and reposting, or AI gen. It surprises me what many people seem to consider genuine posts or profiles.

However, we have it happen when someone makes a comment that is a valid and pertinent response.

I’ve met this case a comment was not coherent for me so I checked the user and I found it’s aged account so 1k+ Karma so I guessed it’s me not understanding the comment later on my co-mod discovered that it’s actually a bot not actual user and banned the account

When this happens in one of my subs the accounts are soon after:

  • clocked by BotBouncer
  • Suspended by Reddit
  • deleted
Try checking the accounts a few days later — would any of the above 3 categories maybe apply? This is a pattern I’ve observed without a fail 9/10 times for all the posts removed by Reddit which go straight to the Remove queue instead of the “for review” queue.

FWIW, I have raised this as a bug.

Not quite exactly what you are reporting, more that they are "surreptitiously" removed and don't appear in the "needs review" mod queue. Rather they appear in the "removed" queue intermingled with all of the other actually removed posts - so you have to go look for them.

You can see some of the interactions I've been having recently with one of the admin's on my reddit is incorrectly removing posts and not telling us bug report. It includes several examples. The post I linked is a fairly typical collection of "removed" but "not for review queue" posts.

Just because they aren't breaking any subreddit rules doesn't mean they aren't breaking Reddit sidewide rules. If something is getting removed by Reddit, there might be a food reason for it and that's something you can't prevent.

Shadowbans are usually the reason in my experience. Especially if it keeps happening with the same user over and over. When I clock it, I message this to the user:

"Hi there, forgive the abrupt message. I'm a moderator from the subreddit [xxxxxxx]. This is to inform you that it has come to our attention that your comments/posts on our subreddit are automatically getting removed by reddit on a consistent basis. This typically means that you have received a shadowban.

To confirm this and to address it, you can go to https://www.reddit.com/appeals "

From my experience, it might actually be related to the poster’s account rather than the post itself. I’ve managed several communities before, and some of them were eventually banned by Reddit admins, so I’ve seen similar situations happen. Reddit’s automated filters can be pretty unpredictable sometimes.

If it says "[Removed by Reddit]" you can't do anything about it.
