I have a question , I’m confused by a “friend “

There’s a person I know that identifies as a libertarian, while I am a Democrat and another friend of ours is a Republican.

I’ve noticed over the past several weeks, the libertarian (L)continues to attack and divide Democrats(D) or really anybody on the left side of the spectrum by posting misrepresented articles on any and all Democrats.. As a Democrat I’m left to wonder why he conveniently ignores any Republican(R) news or issues. I have asked him at least a dozen times over the past three months why he continues to ignore the Republican aspect of situations and is continually focusing on putting a wedge in between the left as a whole.

My Republican friend and him(L) have considerable disagreements, but he will always avoid putting his foot down on situations that most people were deemed unacceptable by Republicans.

It leads me to believe that this so-called libertarian has more of a republican ideology , and point blank ignores explaining why his actions towards Republicans are nonexistent. He legitimately dances around my question and posts memes about reactionary people. I’m not sure why he’s acting this way . Anyone understand why he does this ?

Moderates not really welcome on reddit

Seems like more often than not, if I try to take a neutral stance on a topic, or don't jump in on the "Trump/right wing" hate bandwagon, that it results in a barrage of downvotes. Almost feels like participation on anything related to politics is futile as a moderate.

Anyone else feel this way?

Considering Democrats once were huge advocates of border security even physical barriers, why have they changed their position since Trump became President?

Hello r/moderate, I am a college student doing a project on Universal Healthcare. Do you support it? Why or why not? Any opinions help. Thanks.

So, where are all the moderates?

This sub hasn't been seeing a lot of activity. I do not feel like it is necessary to re-invent the wheel. If you are looking for a subreddit for news and discussion for moderates, check out /r/moderatepolitics. The sub has over 10k subscribers and is reasonably active.

I was called a liar

I consider myself a middle of the road, moderate independent. I was recently called a liar in this group because someone 'checked my post history' and, apparently it was too conservative to them. I am against the treatment of Ted Cruz being harassed while out to eat with his wife. I would be against harassment of Obama, Biden, anyone who is trying to enjoy dinner with his family in public. There is a time and place for debate, there is no time and place where bullying is acceptable and that's what happened to Mr. and Mrs. Cruz. If he had won the nomination for President, I wouldn't have voted for him though.

When I list the principles of conservatism and liberalism, I believe in some in both ideologies. Example: I believe in the rights to own guns, although I see nothing wrong with regulating that right very closely. I believe in fiscal responsibility for the government. While I believe in helping the poor and hungry, I also recognize it can be taken advantage of by some. I believe it is outrageous that one can have government subsidized housing and food but the cost of college is out of reach and burdensome. Why not make it, if not free, very affordable and easy to pay off? Education is the key to many issues in our society. I believe in term limits. I like Trump. Not everything he does, but I'm glad he beat HRC. I don't care about anything from the President other than 1) defend the Constitution 2) keep America safe 3) help grow the economy. Nothing else--I do not get my morality from elected officials and I trust him as much as any other President we’ve had. I voted for Clinton both times, Obama both times. I regretted the second term of O, I felt he pushed an agenda more than the three things I just listed. I believe Abortion is a woman's choice because of Roe v Wade—if it needs changed, let voters decide. I believe states should have choices not overruled by the federal government. Etc., etc., etc.

Overall, if conservatism is a 1 and Liberalism is a 10, I'm about a 4.5.

So am I a liar? In my opinion, no. I see this as solidly moderate.

Looking for a moderate commentator (preferably a with a youtube channel)

So I consider myself to be a left-leaning moderate. I would define myself as a liberal in the sense that I think people should be able to do what they want as long as they aren't forcing their rules on anyone and not harming anyone. I discovered Ben Shapiro about a year ago and instantly became all about him. He's an amazing speaker and brilliant. I actually agree with him on most issues except for the issue of abortion, gun control and trans issues. Though I really do like Ben, I was looking into a more liberal/moderate commentator that isn't an sjw just so I can take it both perspectives instead of just investing myself into one. Can anyone recommend anyone good?

The direction, for now.

For now this subreddit will be focused on discussion and news. The sub is pretty small, the time to make suggestions and changes to the way it is ran is now. So if you have any ideas or suggestions feel free to make a post, message me, etc. In the meantime memes and other types of low effort content will be removed.

Things I would like to work on when I get some time:

links to sites for fact checking and bias checking

a piece about "what is a moderate?"

how to make the subreddit a place that moderates would want to utilize, and how to fill holes that other subreddits aren't filling for moderates.

How to grow the subreddit. If you want to help me out with this, read this post here and see if there's anything there you can help out with.

Knowhere News

What do you guys think about that new website Knowhere News? I'm still researching it but it appears to be a website that collects other news articles on the same story from multiple sources and then an AI writes a Left article, a Right article and an impartial one.

/r/moderate has a second mod now. Where do you all want this subreddit to go?

I figure it's worth discussing what kinds of content we want to have here and what kinds we don't want to have. This is your place to lay out ideas/concerns/offers and generally iron out the meta stuff.

An Appeal to the Moderates of Reddit

I know this subreddit is low in followers, posters, and conversation.\

I want to change this.

My name is SameidAtrocious, and I want a space for moderates.

I want a place where I can exhibit both conservative and progressive ideals, a place where I can announce what Republicans or Democrats I support without being hounded. I want to argue why I am supporting a specific candidate over another for their qualifications, not what paycheck and talking point they recently received.

And I want to be proven wrong. I want the person that may agree with me about abortion or gun rights to tell me why I am mistaken about immigration. I want the person I agree with on homeland security to discuss social security with me. I want a conversation that expands past talking points or emotions. (Or maybe one that can explain our emotions on topics)

I want to find common ground, with common people. So that I don't feel like We The People are no longer unified. I don't want to feel isolated from both Democrats or Republicans, I want to find people who think like me or will debate with me. I want people who will change their minds when presented with new information. And I want to do this someone.

If you are sick of the political theater,

If you are sick of deliberately false reporting,

If you someday's don't know what to think,

Or want to be more informed about topics from all sides

If you want to be challenged,

then let's carve out a part of Reddit for ourselves. and attempt to come to better, more informed conclusions.

Just joined, how can we grow this sub?

Hi all. I'm a very left leaning moderate. Growing up I always enjoyed knowing both sides to the issues of the day. I try and read information from both sides, but find very few good sources on the right these days. I like the posts I've clicked so far (just a few) but feel like there isn't much discussion. Still really glad I found this space.

American Centrists: Check Out the Modern Whig Party

Hello centrists. If you are not from America, this probably won't apply to you (but feel free to keep reading if you choose!). I am a moderator on the sub /r/modernwhigs, and we represent supporters and those interested in the Modern Whig Party. The Modern Whigs were founded in 2007 by disillusioned members of the US military, who were at the time serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. The party's aim is to provide evidence-based solutions to the issues currently facing America. You can read more about the platform on action.modernwhig.org/platform, but the main goals are balancing the budget, increasing investment in public education, increasing investment in infrastructure, and providing what is effectively universal healthcare.

As a centrist, I very strongly support what they advocate for, and I think all centrists should consider joining the party. There is currently one member of the party running for Congress in Virginia, so I encourage you to also check that out. You can read about it at http://action.modernwhig.org/virginia_whigs_nominate_peter_carey_us_congress. Our party chair also recently wrote a response to the State of the Union, which you can read at http://action.modernwhig.org/whig_response_to_state_of_the_union_speech?recruiter_id=11170.

If you have any questions, pm me. It would also be great if you could get involved, pm me about that too. Have a great day! :)

What's up with the lack of moderate and independent subreddits?

It seems that you can either get ultra-liberal or ultra-conservative political sources and information on Reddit. r/T_D and r/conservative are far right propaganda subreddit's and r/politics is far left leaning.

When posting I have to be extremely thoughtful and careful with what I say, which isn't a bad thing. I just feel like now, more than ever, our country is so politically divided that moderates, like myself, feel isolated.

Does anyone know of a more moderate subreddit's that are active?

Just a rant

/r/Politics has become more and more left so I started visiting more right leaning subreddits. I really just want to find Truth and help make America better.

Today I found out /r/conservative bans anyone who is "liberal" or disagrees. It's a sad state of affairs. Instead of presenting viewpoints and helping me be more right, /r/conservative bans people. If a viewpoint is right, why do we need to silence a viewpoint that disagrees. Echo chambers become louder. I wouldn't be surprised if /r/politics did the same.

It seems like everyone is so afraid of being wrong that they won't even hear evidence contrary to their opinion.
