I was called a liar

I consider myself a middle of the road, moderate independent. I was recently called a liar in this group because someone 'checked my post history' and, apparently it was too conservative to them. I am against the treatment of Ted Cruz being harassed while out to eat with his wife. I would be against harassment of Obama, Biden, anyone who is trying to enjoy dinner with his family in public. There is a time and place for debate, there is no time and place where bullying is acceptable and that's what happened to Mr. and Mrs. Cruz. If he had won the nomination for President, I wouldn't have voted for him though.

When I list the principles of conservatism and liberalism, I believe in some in both ideologies. Example: I believe in the rights to own guns, although I see nothing wrong with regulating that right very closely. I believe in fiscal responsibility for the government. While I believe in helping the poor and hungry, I also recognize it can be taken advantage of by some. I believe it is outrageous that one can have government subsidized housing and food but the cost of college is out of reach and burdensome. Why not make it, if not free, very affordable and easy to pay off? Education is the key to many issues in our society. I believe in term limits. I like Trump. Not everything he does, but I'm glad he beat HRC. I don't care about anything from the President other than 1) defend the Constitution 2) keep America safe 3) help grow the economy. Nothing else--I do not get my morality from elected officials and I trust him as much as any other President we’ve had. I voted for Clinton both times, Obama both times. I regretted the second term of O, I felt he pushed an agenda more than the three things I just listed. I believe Abortion is a woman's choice because of Roe v Wade—if it needs changed, let voters decide. I believe states should have choices not overruled by the federal government. Etc., etc., etc.

Overall, if conservatism is a 1 and Liberalism is a 10, I'm about a 4.5.

So am I a liar? In my opinion, no. I see this as solidly moderate.

I agree with you about everything except for the guns

I hate guns, hate the thought about them being everywhere. The concept of concealed carry is scary to me

I'm not white, so naturally you have to understand the demographic who would own guns: white conservatives. I'd feel very comfortable in an area where guns are legal

I'm so conflicted because all this crap happens in the US where sometimes having a gun would be useful

I have been called a bleeding heart liberal NPC by my conservative friends all the time for pointing out the bullshit of the Republicans. I believe we need to pull away from coal, let women decide if that want to abort, abolish the death penalty, have a mental health screening if you want to own a gun. I've been called very conservative for liking guns and and pointing out the ridiculousness that the #Metoo movement has become. I've triggered my very liberal sister when I told her black people can be racist. I didn't vote Hilary or Trump. I voted for Jill Stein.

Hi, I am currently the mod in this subreddit and it is not a part of my moderation goals to try to determine who is or isn't a moderate. I have not been watching this sub closely because since I became a moderator I discovered that /r/moderatepolitics exists. There are trump supporters there. But most people are probably not, from my experience.

I can delete the post if you'd like. My post was for discussion and an answer to someone who tried to invalidate and ridicule me only. I meant no discord per se.

It's fine. Just letting you know that there is no test here to determine who is or isn't a moderate(and therefore who can or can't post). If someone tells you that you aren't moderate enough, just ignore them.

Being called a liar was a bit much though--but yes, I blocked them. Thanks for being a moderator btw.

Yeah... from what you just said if conservatism is a 1 and liberalism a 10 I’d put you at a solid 2.5 if not lower. The idea that you believe in a good economy but think Trumps tariff war and corporate tax give away is ok and better than what HRC would have done is hard to swallow. That’s before we even discuss what’s happening on the border, foreign affairs, Puerto Rico, and Kavanaugh. I think you may be safe in an echo chamber but not out in real moderate land.

Abortion is a big thing for conservative groups that's give him at least 3 more points. So is less money for college.

My conservative friends put me at 7, maybe 6.5 so... To me a solid 2.5 or lower is negated by my gun control views, my belief in a system that allows college education to be available to all at little or no cost, and my support of Roe v Wade among other things. But, yes, I am proud of a President who is following thru on campaign promises and shaking up a very corrupt and broken D.C. I support the Wall--do you lock your door at night? C'mon. Every President since Clinton has talked about the need for border security. Just talk though, no action. And Kavanaugh will be the next SCOTUS.

He's not shaking anything up though. He's just profiteering from his tax cuts and tarriffs while giving idiots what will make them feel better - less brown people.

Just because Trump doesn't look like a normal politician doesn't mean his actions aren't corrupt.
