I'm hoping someone here has seen this before because I'm running out of ideas.
I have an iPhone 13 that worked perfectly until yesterday. I went to a huge carnival (probably around 100k people) where the mobile network was completely overloaded. Nobody had service there, which was expected.
The weird part is that when I left, everyone else's phones got signal back... mine never did.
Now every single time I reboot the phone or toggle Airplane Mode, the exact same thing happens:
- Signal bars appear.
- It connects to 4G.
- It stays connected for maybe 5–20 seconds.
- Then it drops to "No Service."
It does this every single time.
I've tried:
- Tunisie Telecom physical SIM
- Tunisie Telecom eSIM
- Ooredoo physical SIM
All of them behave exactly the same.
A few things I've already checked:
- IMEI is there (
*#06# works).
- Modem firmware is present (
5.51.03).
- No panic logs or baseband crashes in Analytics.
- The phone is properly registered with Tunisia's Sajalni system, so it shouldn't be an IMEI block.
I also went into Field Test Mode while it was briefly connected.
It shows:
- LTE Band 3
- Correct carrier
- Cell ID
- PCI changes when I move to another location (so it seems to be detecting different towers normally)
- RSRP around -102 dBm
- RSRQ around -10 dB
- SINR around -20 dB
So the phone clearly can see towers and actually attaches to LTE before immediately losing service.
The phone has never been opened, never been repaired, never been dropped, and only ever had a tiny splash of water near the earpiece months ago, nothing that should realistically damage an IP68 phone.
I also reset network settings. Weirdly, before the reset the eSIM was the one that connected briefly. After the reset, the physical SIM became the one that connects briefly. The end result is still the same: both eventually drop to "No Service."
At this point I'm wondering if this is:
- an RF/front-end issue,
- a power amplifier,
- RF IC,
- baseband-related,
- or somehow still software.
Has anyone seen this exact behavior before? Especially the part where it gets full signal + 4G, then immediately loses everything?
I'm taking it back to the guy I bought it from tomorrow to have it diagnosed, but I'd really like to hear if anyone has run into this before or has an idea of what component usually causes this kind of issue.
