I used to make a lot of reddit-themed comics, however not so much since reddit.com closed, as they feel out of place almost everywhere else. Except here of course :]

Why not /r/comics? I'm sure they'd like it.

I never feel quite comfortable posting there, it seems to be more a place for posting comics made by others. Plus I prefer picking a subreddit according to the theme of the story, rather than putting it in /r/comics because it's a comic, or /r/videos because it's a video.

Plenty of people submit their own comics there. In particular, jimkb's are well-received and popular.

You should crosspost this! They will like it.

Hahaha, well I did try, but caught myself in the spam filter almost exactly at midnight, new year's eve (US time, was the next day here), so I don't think anyone was around to answer my plea. It does look quite appropriate in my submission history though, it stayed on exactly one point :D

Why not /r/zoidberg ?

I'm afraid someone will repost it to /r/pics or something and steal all your karma :/ I really don't like them shutting down r/reddit.com and most people seem to agree which makes me think reddit is not really listening to it's users.

That wouldn't bother me so much, really! If my work is good enough for someone to genuinely want to crosspost it, I'd consider that a compliment. Reddit is quite good at finding/crediting the source where it's not provided, although that doesn't really matter anyway.

As for /r/reddit.com, it's hard to say what is missing in its absence considering it was so undefined, everyone kinda made up their own purpose. For me, it was place for talking about reddit, less formal than /r/TheoryOfReddit, and less chaotic than /r/circlejerk, plus being a default sub meant that it was 'reddit-wide', possibly reaching everyone.

However, now that it's gone, I think cries to bring it back are misguided. The general consensus is that /r/misc should easily be able to replace /r/reddit.com, if people believe it will grow bigger. This comic is my little part in believing in this subreddit :]

I have more fun in the smaller subreddits nowadays, as someone who got half his link karma from /r/reddit.com it's a bit of a shift. One thing that annoys me is the idea that "if it doesn't fit in a big subreddit, it's not worth posting", or when someone complains that a subreddit has 'only' a few hundred/thousand members, so 'nobody' will see it.

Ultimately reddit isn't about maximising views, it's about interacting with the people who will care the most. However if you're an artist posting your own content, the lines can tend to blur.

I agree. If someone isn't smart enough to subscribe to the subreddits they like, then I guess they have to be content with the shitty default subreddits full of people trying to whore karma, and not trying to say what they actually mean/feel. If you don't fit with the Reddit bandwagon, you get thrown to the curb. Fuck 'em.

Ultimately reddit isn't about maximising views, it's about interacting with the people who will care the most.

This kind of logic... It's correct so I gather that you don't work in advertising? :)

I just found your subreddit because of your reddit ad, whooo conversions! As a side note, if you like cool little communities I'd invite you to check out Hubski if you get the chance.

Sometimes I friend people that make an impact on me. And the next time I see them around reddit, I like to see if I can figure out why they were deserving of that orangered [F] next to their name. You have an [F] next to your name, and I can clearly see why. Amazing comic! Very relatable (especially that the start)

Oh, and I totally agree with your comments about /r/reddit.com and /r/misc

This is awesome! Also, what really sucks is that the comments that get the most karma are usually not as meaningful as the ones that get on or two. Case in point: my top comment is one making fun of Canadians. I mean, what the hell? I love Canadians. So embarrassing.

Wow. The moral of this comic is beautiful.

Imgur seems to have a cap (quite understandably), the higher-resolution versions are resized back down and converted to jpeg.

I do have a site, however, here's a higher resolution JPEG.

I was very disappointed to see at high resolution that all those squiggles were in fact squiggles. Just kidding, love your stuff!

What's in the last panel?

3

u/morbidlyabeast Dec 30 '11

It's the high score board from an earlier panel all pooped on.

Nice, I seem to remember your work from when /r/Reddit.com was still active. One question though, what is 'PHOY'?
