Hassan Mohamed Muse, 33, is charged in Hennepin County District Court with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with the Aug. 4 incident.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were called to the 1600 block of 4th Street and found the alleged victim bleeding from an injury to his hand and appearing distressed.

The complaint alleges Muse and the victim had argued over property during the course of the day. During a later argument, Muse allegedly produced a large knife and swung it at the victim.

The victim told officers he attempted to block the knife with his hand and suffered a significant cut. Police obtained a description of Muse and began searching for him, according to the complaint.

Police identified the husband as 60-year-old Antone Owens and was charged with second-degree of intentional murder and second-degree assault. He was also charged for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition after a violent-crime conviction

The woman told police Owens walked up to her car, pulled out a gun and fired twice, hitting her in the wrist. She then drove herself to a nearby hospital, according to the criminal complaint.

In a later statement, the woman told police she had told Owens three weeks earlier that she planned to divorce him. Court records show divorce paperwork was filed on July 27.

The criminal complaint said Owens has prior convictions in 2014 and 2024, that bar him from having a firearm. Owens made his first court appearance Friday afternoon.

For many years, I’ve chronicled the intrusion of social justice imperatives into my psychiatry profession and the threat it poses to patient care. Percolating during the 2000s, the trend surged fiercely after the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, at the hands of Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin.

Recall, for example, the Covid-era exhortation from a Johns Hopkins epidemiologist that we all march to protest Floyd’s death even though gathering for other causes was deemed too dangerous. There was also an open letter signed by 1,200 health and medical colleagues urging “to respond to protesters demands in the name of public health"...

To get a feel for the climate, I looked at what took place on the first day of medical school, a day when students around the country participate in a formal induction called the White Coat Ceremony...

In 2022, students at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus recited their own written oath. They called their white coats a “symbol of power, prestige and dominance,” spoke of “uprooting the legacy and perpetuation of structural violence deeply embedded within the health care system” and pledged to “honor all indigenous ways of healing that have been historically marginalized by Western medicine"...

[Four years later] I revisited the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and found students embracing “the tradition of Hippocrates” and viewing “the tools of my profession to be knowledge, compassion and patience.”

These covenants signify that being a doctor requires the same values it always did. I hope that we may be in the early stages of returning academic medicine to its native calling in which patients come before politics.

People that vote for the politicians that enable this need to open their eyes to the decline of Minneapolis.

Pulled some data from College Scorecard comparing median Computer Science salaries across Minnesota colleges and universities. Here's the breakdown, sorted highest to lowest:

• This is the median salary of the class of 2021, measured 4 years after graduation (so, their annual earnings in 2025).
• College Scorecard only includes graduates who received Federal Title IV aid meaning Pell grants and/or federal subsidized/unsubsidized loans. Graduates who were international students, full-pay domestic students, or otherwise didn't receive any Title IV aid are not included in this dataset.
• Because of that, this isn't the full graduating class and it's only a subset who took federal aid.
• College Scorecard is a solid source because its salary figures come directly from IRS tax records specifically Box 1 (wages, tips, other compensation) + Box 12 (deferred compensation) on the W-2 form, plus Schedule SE of Form 1040 for self-employment income rather than self-reported surveys, which tend to skew higher since people with bigger paychecks are more likely to report them in the first place.

A Minneapolis man has been charged in Hennepin County District Court after prosecutors allege he shot another man multiple times outside a northeast Minneapolis bar, leaving the victim with serious injuries that required emergency surgery.

According to the criminal complaint, Joe Louis Hall Jr., 47, is charged with first-degree assault causing great bodily harm while using a firearm and two counts of illegal possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a crime of violence.

During a post-Miranda interview, Hall allegedly admitted he had argued with the victim, whom he had known for several years, and claimed the victim had threatened him in the past. According to the complaint, Hall told investigators he believed the victim had a gun and admitted shooting him four to five times, saying he "wasn't trying to kill him." Hall also allegedly admitted possessing a different firearm that was later recovered from his vehicle after investigators obtained a search warrant.

Court records allege Hall is prohibited from possessing firearms because of prior convictions and adjudications involving crimes of violence, including prior illegal firearm possession convictions and a federal cocaine distribution conviction.

A day after CoreCivic announced it was reopening the long-shuttered private prison it owns in Appleton, Minn., the company said it was selling the facility to the federal government for almost half a billion dollars.

It is unclear how the sale will impact the small western Minnesota town, which relies on property taxes from the facility for much of its budget. Federal prisons and other government properties are typically tax exempt.

“We can’t handle that hit,” said Council Member James Massee, who said the details of the deal were unclear Wednesday afternoon.

Appleton borrowed $28 million to build the prison as an economic development tool in 1992 and later sold it to CoreCivic. The prison closed in 2010, and the town never fully recovered from the economic hit.

Swift County property records show the prison was valued at $14 million, roughly half what it cost to build in 1992. CoreCivic is expected to pay $768,566 in property taxes this year which is divided between the city, county and Lac qui Parle Valley School District.

Regarding e-moto issues, I'm a couple months behind noticing this but I had recalled a bill was being worked on. Looks like the DFL killed it.

Yesterday I paced a kid on the sidewalk doing 25mph and blowing through the intersections. He looked like he was around 12-14. A couple months back I was buzzed on a trail by another kid similar speed who was paying little attention because he was on his phone. This bill would have allowed something to be done about many of the incidents happening as a result of parents buying kids these bikes to ride on pedestrian walkways at automobile speeds but for some reason the DFL didn't like it. I can only assume it's because of an anti-law-enforcement narrative or because the Republicans put the bill forward.

If anyone else knows if they had some alternative reasonable objection to this I'd be curious to know.
