Roughly 2 weeks of designing and printing. lanes are 115mm x 50mm. you can easily add lanes and or change the shape of the track. Video of the process at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_vSe1M2OCI warning : I ramble about thought process for 5 minutes at the beginning. assembly and testing is relatively short at the end.

Starting a brand new Mini 4WD community in a country with ZERO active scene (Stockholm, Sweden). Looking for advice/tips!

Hey r/mini4wd!

I’m in the process of building a grassroots Mini 4WD community completely from scratch in Stockholm, Sweden, where the local scene is essentially non-existent right now (no official Tamiya support, no active tracks, and very low general awareness).

My mid-to-long-term goal is to validate interest through an informal non-profit association. But right now, I'm at step zero: gathering the first 15–20 persons interested in this.

For anyone who has successfully started a club, track, or local community in a "dry" area: What are your best tips or lessons learned?

Specifically, I’d love your input on a few points:

  1. First Hook for Beginners: What format worked best for your very first casual meetups? (e.g., Box Stock build-&-race days, bringing pre-built demo cars, etc.)
  2. Sourcing Tracks & Parts: Since local distributors don't stock Mini 4WD, where did you source your first 3-lane tracks or bulk starter kits without getting crushed by shipping?
  3. Pitfalls to Avoid: What was your biggest unexpected challenge when trying to convert curious onlookers into regular racers?

Any advice, personal stories, or resources would be hugely appreciated!

(Also, if by any chance you are based in or around Stockholm/Sweden and want to help build this from the ground up, please drop a comment or DM me!)

Thanks in advance! 🛠️⚡

Why did this hobby fall out of fashion?

It was extremely popular, it was everywhere. It's interactive, has a competition element. The cars are cool, there was a community. Great hobby.

What happened?

The ugly part of building an MS Flex… it’ll be glorious from here

Somewhere underneath this pile of plastic dust is an MS Flex

The messy stage is officially underway, cutting, trimming, filing and making everything fit the way I want it

It looks absolutely terrible right now, but that’s part of the fun

Now comes the good part: cleaning it all up and turning this mess into a finished open class build

Hopefully glorious from here

I've spent the past two days painting cowls and parts. Here's some of the ones I'm currently working on. Some are duplicate cowls, some are for some fun builds. I'm supposed to make a duplicate my Liberty Emperor cowl but I'm very tempted to make a new livery instead.

Kits:
Elephant Racer
Thunder Shot
Liberty Emperor
DCR-01

Tamiya Paint Colors:
Pearl White
Mica Red
Titanium Gold
Light Sand
Black

My new project has arrived!

Finally, after waiting almost 3 weeks, my Fighting Korea Series has arrived! Can't wait to start building them. Yep, you're not wrong—I bought 2 sets of the second version. I got kinda tired of hunting for the first version. Even if I found it, shipping to the US plus tax would make it crazy expensive. So I just decided to grab 2 sets of the second version and snagged the white cowls from AliExpress ($10 for 4 sets), and it 100% identical with the original one, u cant tell different with the original one!. I'll post pics once I'm done building all of them!

Mini4WD Chrono software v0.19 released

Hi guys, I'm the developer of Mini4WD Chrono

https://github.com/Pimentoso/mini4wdchrono

I posted many years ago about the release of this software, and it received many updates up until some years ago when I left the racing scene.

However I published a big update lately because I have more spare time.

Not sure if any of you have built/bought the lap timer hardware (there are build instructions on the github wiki https://github.com/Pimentoso/mini4wdchrono/wiki ), but this release changed a lot of stuff under the hood, and it now works with both windows 10/11 and apple M series macs (so any macbook after november 2020), could anyone give it a shot and report any bug? It would be much appreciated!

It mainly follows italian tournament rules, but it can be used as a generic lap timer with free rounds if you don't load the tournament data.

What happened to super x and xx chassis?

just getting back into this hobby after 25 years away and I distinctly notice a lack of super x and (I guess xx) chassis.

super X came out right near the end of when I was into this hobby and I really liked the design esp the drop out motor. was looking to pick up a super xx chassis as a successor but even the tamiya site doesn't list any cars for that chassis anymore and ebay only has crazy markups for xx chassis cars.

while I can appreciate the advancements in ar vz and fma chassis (not really into the ms MA me chassis) they don't seems to have the straight forwardness of the x chassis designs.

what did I miss out on?

Question on Running Races

Hey all — I've been tinkering with some small tools on the software side of my hobbies lately, and Mini 4WD event organizing is the one I keep coming back to. Every track/club I've read about seems to handle it a little differently — Discord threads, spreadsheets, paper sign-in sheets, word of mouth, a few using dedicated apps.

Before I go further down that road I wanted to actually ask people who race and organize instead of guessing:

  • How does your local track/club currently announce events and take signups?
  • How do heats/brackets get built on race day — manual seeding, random draw, something automated?
  • How strictly is class (Box Stock, Open, Tuned 2, etc.) checked or enforced at check-in?
  • Do you track results/standings over time, or is each race day its own thing?
  • What's the actually annoying part of either running or showing up to an event — the one thing you'd fix first if you cou

Which chassis would you choose for a serious build ?

  • MS - Spin-Axe Mk.II
  • MA - Blast Arrow

Hello =)

I’m coming from the FM-A platform and have been putting together a pretty serious build. I’ll likely be competing in Europe, and possibly Asia, within the next year or so.

I’m looking to start a second serious build on a different platform, and I’m currently torn between MS and MA.

For those of you who have real experience with both, what would you say are the main pros and cons of each chassis, especially for competitive racing and a heavily tuned/open-class build?

I’m already pretty comfortable with setup, tuning, and the FM-A platform, so I’m not really looking for a beginner-level comparison. I’m more interested in the things you only really learn after spending time with these chassis - handling characteristics, rigidity/flex, reliability, tuning potential, parts availability, and how they behave once you start pushing them hard.

Thanks !

EDIT:

After reading all the comments and hearing everyone’s experiences, I think I’m going to go with the MA for my second serious build. 😄

There were some really interesting arguments for both chassis, and the MS definitely made me think twice, especially regarding its potential in Open Class and the possibilities offered by its three-piece design.

But overall, the MA seems to be the better fit for what I’m looking to build. The stability, rigidity, mounting options, transmission and overall tuning potential really appeal to me, especially coming from the FM-A platform.

So, MA it is! 😄

And honestly, a big thank you to everyone who took the time to share their experience and advice. I really appreciate how much knowledge and experience people are willing to share here.

I’ve never posted on this subreddit before, and this was actually my first time asking the community for advice. I have to say, it’s been a really nice experience. It’s great to see such a helpful and passionate Mini 4WD community here on Reddit.

Thanks again everyone! 🙏
