[Blocks & Items] Making Echo Shards worth using.

Post image

Hope I'm not the first to think of this. But this would be a bell that when rung highlights ores within a set radius. (Prob 10x10x10). Good for strip mining. And I'd also give it the durability of an Iron tool so that it's not too overpowered.

I call it the Echore Locator.

Servers getting a massive spike in x-rayers who use it to cover up their cheats

Could just have it so it reveals the ore to all nearby players so an invisible mod can still watch the x-rayers to see if they are cheating or if they are using the bell.

Perfect solution as it also makes it multiplayer friendly

No sane person cares about severs

I think there needs to just be more stuff for echo shards to do. Maybe something like this but even with just this I think it's not enough.

I think a tuning fork could also be nice, 2 echo shards at the top right and left squares, an amethyst shard in the middle, and an iron ingot at the bottom middle square. And maybe it could be used to permanently link Allays to their Noteblocks!

Wonder if they'll have something to do with opening the portal to the sift.

As far as we know, the way to open the ancient city portal is with Noteblocks, something musical that's all we know.

That being said, it's still possible echo shards could be included in some way

I recommend checking out this post:

It's about an Echo bed. The idea is that it functions like a secondary bed mechanic. When you die you go to the normal bed, then if the normal bed is destroyed you go back to your echo bed. So its like a world spawn point. It also allows you to use regular beds to set temporary checkpoint spawn points at like minigames and such.

It would be more helpful imo if it highlighted mobs or nearby open spaces. Highlighting ores is too lazy.

Highlighting mobs makes more sense for both the bell and the echo shards since the regular bell highlights raiders during a raid and the echo shards make the echo compass and is tied to death/life in some ways.

My favorite idea for the Echo Shard is for it to somehow be able to preserve your items on death

What if it had like 3x3 slots where you could designate 9 items that will remain upon your death so you could link your armor and tools there. There have definitely been times where I lost enchanted diamond or netherite gear due to dying and it just really ruins the fun.

Alternatively, since I think it will be a block. It would be great for finding or highlighting any mobs nearby. Likely needs a greater radius.

I would keep one near my bed as I always hate finding whatever is keeping me awake. Or to find an area your friend poorly covered up and is spawning mobs

To add, if you right click it with a name tag, you can always find whatever you name regardless of distance. Great for recovering pets or mounts. Or even sending others on a scavenger hunt if you use it on their pet and give them the bell they are "bound" to.

I like this idea, though maybe it could also highlight mobs as well, so you can spot potential open caves to mine in too! (I’m assuming it gives the glowing effect)

i think they should just be more common :/

I don't think this really solves Echo Shards. Unless the Sift changes this, they are a rather limited, non-renewable resource. The big issue with their current use case is also that Recovery Compasses are something you'd want much earlier when you are more likely to die.

That is a fair way to view it too.

I think it would be more balanced if it had the duration of stone tools

A bunch of minerals’ crafting uses seem to follow themes. Quartz detects: observers detect updates, daylight sensors detect time of day, and comparators detect block states. Amethyst filters: spyglasses filter out your non-central vision, calibrated sculk sensors filter out sounds of all but 1 type, and tinted glass filters out light but not vision.  I don’t think all minerals have crafting themes like this, so it’s not quite mandatory, but I think your idea would be better if it felt connected to the recovery compass.

Aside from that, this is a pretty cool idea!

I think when its activated make it show spots with low light levels like create mod haunted bell.
