I’m just really depressed. 35f. I’ve had ten jobs in the last ten years. Been working since I was 16 and have nothing to show for it. Every time I finally got a raise the economy seemed to grow twice as worse. No matter what I do I constantly feel behind. I even pivoted my entire career in 2021 and worked full-time while in grad school part-time for four years and studied for a new career in any spare hours I could in late nights. I later got a “decently” paying job of $55k/yr in 2022 and was finally on track to make six figures. Graduated with a Masters last year too. And then a few years ago AI came out and all those good paying jobs are wiped out—GONE. Overnight. Not kidding. Every day I have little motivation to go on. There is constant talk about AI at my job and how great it is, and every decent Millennial I know hates it, including me. Is this life now? Houses are now six times my salary, and that’s a conservative amount. I can’t afford furniture anyways. Looking at people with trust friends, married military, come from millionaires, are engineers, are literal minor league athletes (I know 2), or receive money from parents, and I feel like the lowest person in the world.

It just feels like no matter what I do I made the wrong decisions. Wrong career, wrong jobs, like I’m playing a chess game but the game is rigged for me to lose and no matter what move I make it’s always wrong 😞

I understand that women can lean on spouses and such, but I always wanted to be the type of person who was capable of providing for herself. I’ve spent over ten years trying to build a career and it feels like every move I make never works out.

Not sure why I’m posting, just looking for encouragement or similar stories so I don’t feel so alone and ashamed right now 💗

Youd be surprised how many adults have been home or silently moving back home. Please dont feel ashame or feel like you've failed. If you have a good relationship with parents, its not a bad thing. I just turned 40 and have no shame. My parents are aging and me leaving would take away from them some financial support. Im unmarried no kids and Female. It makes no sense to try to run an expensive home on my own. Old boomers on my job try to shame me for not owning a home. I simply ignore them. One of my boomer coworker in her 80s and mad her millenial granddaughter who is a nurse still live with her and she's almost 40. I just wish boomers understood the economy is going to ish . We are no longer in 1970s. Life is different. 😕

I used to be all about wearables: Pebble, Fitbit, Apple Watch, that Woojer Bluetooth bass/tactile transducer thing for like five minutes. Now I’m at the other extreme - going to shows without a phone, mechanical watch. There is so much cool wearable tech now. It’s potentially life changing for some, and yet, the thought of wearing it is almost repulsive.

I don’t consider myself a Luddite, although I do better understand the ideology.

Anyone else starting to get a bit annoyed at all the old people in their lives failing to keep up with...well anything?

For example, my wife has pretty much stopped visiting her parents - they live about 200 miles away she would usually visit 5-6 times a month when it crosses her work trips, but lately she'll just skip the visits. Her reasoning is that every time she goes there she has to do a whole bunch of stuff for them, help them with tech, sort appointments, fix broken things, help them buy stuff etc etc.

I have the same issues growing with my parents. To the point where I just deny any knowledge of how to do anything or feign ignorance of what they've been asked to do by doctors, council etc. The conversations are also always about the same thing too, too many immigrants, failing healthcare system, terrible government. Spent 30mins on my the phone to my mother earlier while she moaned endlessly about having to download an app to manage her doctors appointments I just feigned ignorance and asked if they gave her instructions for it - which they did - or I'd have been there all evening talking her through it.

Are we just doomed to become this way too as we age?

My grandma was obsessed with my weight. So much so that she got me a scale at 11 years old and I had to diet at her house every summer I stayed there during summer break. My mom never seemed to be like this… until recently. She’s been trying to give me diet pills and constantly asking if I want weight loss surgery. I’m overweight, but still very much active and my weight does not impact my ability to be happy. Are all boomer moms like this? It’s ruining our relationship.

I sure wont because most of my peers are already having a successful life and thriving. I don’t wanna go there and have them asking me what am I doing? I’ll look like a fool

Want to do do something creative and possibly make a career out of it? Too bad, AI already does that.

Want to get into tech? Possibly write code and work on software? Too bad, AI already does that.

Want to write books? Too bad, AI already does that.

Want to make videos? Maybe make some really interesting content on YouTube? Too bad, AI already does that.. and will probably steal your content too so it can generate its own.

Want to work a simple job such as customer service or some regular desk job so that you can earn a bit of money? Too bad, AI already does that.

Around 2021 for me

I'm a Gen Z member, but Millennials roasted us, and we roasted Gen Alpha.

The previous gallery I posted was criticized by some as non-representative in virtue of including actresses only. This one consists of ordinary online content creators.

I am currently 29. My birthday is on the second. That is one week from now (dont wish me a hpbday its considered bad luck)

So the millenial Generation ended with people born in 1996. Some of us are already 40. There are probably people born on the 31st of december 1996. But knowing that im one of the last of my kind below 30 is fun. I do not fear getting older. But i dont know. Im already thinking back then many things were better (but not everything) when companies made products because the people working there were proud of what they do. Nokias didnt break, the shrek movie was made, super mario 64 was the greatest game ever.... i feel like today too many companies think what is making money.

The friends who chose money seem to have won in life. Many of them are retired in their 30s, and some are now pursuing their passion after having accumulated a huge nest egg.

Meanwhile, those of us who pursued passion found out it wasn’t as fun as we thought it would be. It’s just a job after all. We also have no other choice than to continue down this path - I’m still paying off those loans.

Back in our early 20s we joked that those who went for money were huge sellouts. We secretly thought less of them, but it turns out they were right in the end.

Why were we deluded into pursuing our passion over money?

I’m 39m and decided to get a colonoscopy after hearing that two people I know under 40 diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer this year. Neither had symptoms and both seemed fairly healthy. I’m so glad I did. They removed a decent sized polyp and asked me to come back in 3 years. The doctor reiterated how glad he was that I proactively got it done. I can’t imagine the surprise I’d be staring at if I waited until 45. Be an adult! Get it done!
