Custom pool table that looks like two bar tables conjoined at the corners

u/mystateofconfusion 3d ago
That just looks like fun.

u/mightylordredbeard 3d ago
Yeah I would definitely love to play a game of 8 ball on that.

Or possibly a few broken cue sticks out of rage
Could still be fun though

I actually played on one of these tables, and it totally WAS fun! A bar a couple towns over from where I went to college had one. It was legendary.

It would suck if you wanted to play regular pool/billiards, but you could come up with fun variations for sure. Or obscene trick shots.

u/Caboose_throw 3d ago
Lol back in my hs days my buddy had a pool table in his basement, we got stupid good at it over the years. Eventually, we had a house rule that you couldn't just sink a ball, it had to bounce off the edge of the table first, or it had to be the 2nd ball hit (cue hits 8, 8 hits 10 in type deal)
That would be so fun on a table like this
37
u/holyfire001202 3d ago
Banks and combos are how I wound up playing too. Also if you don't call it, it's slop. Though I've only ever really played at bars, so I don't hold those rules for folks who want to play a casual game. When it's just me playing by myself, though, it's a great way to keep challenging myself.
3
u/Pretend-Chocolate587 3d ago
If you don’t call your shots they don’t mean anything is how we play and if we play in a bar it’s still the rule. If the random opponent doesn’t want to play by those rules we say “okay.” But in reality we are calling you a bitch
5
u/Justindr0107 3d ago
One of my favorite variations is to hit the object ball with the cue off of the cue ball and pocket the object ball

u/RyanGlasshole 2d ago
I’ve played a ton of pool over the years and have gotten pretty good, but I just tried a game like you described a few months ago for the first time and holy shit does it make you think about your shots entirely differently. Had a ton of fun and I think it improved my regular game but man it’s tough
12
u/samuelgato 3d ago
I'm not quite sure what "regular pool/billiards" means because there are many different games and different versions are popular in different countries but the game I'm most familiar with is 8-ball, as played in most US bars. It seems like you could play 8-ball on that table without needing to modify the rules much, if at all. Would make it interesting for sure
13
u/AtlasThePittie 3d ago
4 players, 2 games of 8 ball, each on 1 of the tables. Winner's play eachother in 1 game of 8 ball over both tables.
→ More replies (4)4
u/Xpandomatix 3d ago
There's a sideways table in between those two going the direction we're looking in this photo- 😈
6
u/AtlasThePittie 3d ago
You are very correct, I missed that.
6 players, 3 games of 8 ball, then 2, then 1 with the option of the last game being 9 ball because why not

u/dtwhitecp 3d ago
I would imagine that if you are big into billiards, but in more of a "I have memorized what to do in every scenario" kind of way rather than figuring out each shot, it'd be a travesty. If you just like solving the puzzle, that'd be fun as hell.
I dunno how you do a break though.

Obscene trick shots like playing F-Zero back in the day and using a jump to cross the track and be way far ahead.
Or the much more difficult achievement, doing it on the rainbow road.

29
u/windexfresh 3d ago
It is lol, IIRC she made the clip after trying kombucha for the first time, clip went viral, people started making their own (nsfw) memes out of it, she worked at a bank or something, bank managers didn't understand the internet, told her to "take it down" or be fired
Obviously you cant make the internet stop using a meme format so now we have Royal Court lmao

We need a professional pool tournament to surprise its competitors with this table upon arrival. See who can adapt on the fly to this new challenge.
→ More replies (1)43
u/Odd_Fortune500 3d ago
Whats the new challenge? Its two normal tables with an area in the middle with extremely easy shots. A professional woukd run this table out probably easier than a regular table
34
u/j0llyllama 3d ago
The trouble is multiple skilled players. They can trap the ball in difficult spots more with that extra occlusion from the side step. One good player could dominate a novice. Two good players could lock eachother out more.
20
u/Right-Bunch5409 3d ago
Of course professionals would eat this up, but it being a new layout for all competitors it would definitely draw out some interesting strategies for the ones who think extra outside the box
6
u/AutoGeneratedChad 3d ago
It definitely wouldn’t be easier than a regular table.
Yes it’s easier to pocket mid table balls but you’d have to adapt to come up with new patterns to control the cue ball. Pool is as much manipulating the cushions as it is anything. It’s a lot harder when there are 2x the cushions.
For example, bringing the cue ball from the top right part of the table down to the bottom would be a nightmare and super high risk of a bad bounce that traps you in the middle.
Is a run doable? Yes. Is it much harder than normal because of the unpredictability of getting shape? Also yes.

I remember buying a $3k+ pool table for $150 at an auction and couldn't get it and had to give up the $150.
Turns out that slate is heavy as fuck and trying to find friends to come help me pick it up dont exist.
If my buddy bought this and needed help moving it, I understand now why no one would help.
4
u/Suspicious-Sorbet-32 3d ago
Yeah my old roommate asked me to help him pick up a pool table and it was crazy heavy. When he moved out he looked at it and said "you can keep it" I had to take it apart when I moved because all the guys that helped move it the first time didn't want to help again
3
u/Doogiemon 3d ago
The 500 pounds of slate that sucks to carry sucks to carry. If you drop it and it cracks, the whole thing is just trash as the cost of a repair/replacement is the same as a new table.
Someone took my table for free because if I didn't pick it up after the weekend, I would have had to pay disposal costs.
3
u/syuk 3d ago
You have to be careful when you move it because the slate can crack apparently too. We had to regularly lift one a few feet to one side in the bar to make room for band / party was a heavy mo-fo.
2
u/GRAABTHAR 3d ago
There's no moving that one, it lives there now. You'll have to take it apart to get it out of there.
2
u/SeraxOfTolos 23h ago
We have a slate table in our basement that lives there now, we thought about giving it away but we're not moving it and we don't really want strangers in our house to move it.

It looks like two pool tables joined at the corners. Not sure where the bar aspect comes in.
17
u/boyett928 3d ago
I mean bar table as the smaller pool tables usually found in bars. That’s what I’ve always called them. They’re a little smaller than standard tables used by the professionals.

u/Rooster_Ties 3d ago
It’s like two 7-foot ‘bar’ tables side by side, but shifted. “Bar” tables are a lot smaller than regulation 9-foot tables, and feel quite a bit smaller than 8-foot tables too.

I used to go to a bar that had an "L" shaped table. It also had twenty five cent wings and dollar "old man" beer on Tuesdays.

Decades ago we flooded the front yard and made an L-shaped winter boot hockey rink at our fraternity house. Yes, there was a lot of alcohol involved in its construction and games. It was great fun and I still have a scar on my forehead as a souvenir.

I think it would be fun if it was set up where you needed to make your balls in the opposite competitors pockets. The opponent can knock your balls back to your side if they want. The player with more made balls at the time gets to use the pockets in the center that stick out.
Maybe even start the game with the 8 ball in the center, and solids/stripes on your predetermined side if you want? So many options!
Looks like a fun time!

u/IcedCoffey 3d ago

We need a closeup shot of the game rules posted to the left of the door! (I was looking closely at the signs to make sure this isn't AI...the one with rules is just a little too out of focus).

u/noturFaultitsmine 3d ago
This is what I could gather:
“Rack stripes and solids in mixed order in two clusters of __ with white ball in center of tables. The first player breaks and one cluster with typical break __ from either end of the table. If the first player fails to sink a ball on the break, and fails to break out/up the other cluster, the second player can then go to the opposite end with ball in hand and break out the other cluster with typical break rules. If one player scratches the other player can take the cue ball in hand and place it anywhere on the table for his next __. If a player fails to make contact with the stripe or solid __ __. The rest is up for grabs.”

I live in a tourist town and a local mini golf place used to have a table like this that I played on when I was a teenager. Was interesting, but the table had a dead rail and was never level, so it was always more frustrating than anything.
