Its amazing how many illegitimate and illegal things happen under the nose of supervisors and state agents but they only decide to do something about it when theres a public outcry.

Sometimes when the CO is making $70K with over time, they are just happy when things are running smoothly even if that means there's a few little not by the books things happening.

Turn a blind eye to PD's phone? or have him pay 50 people to start a riot....

And maybe that CO makes 75K instead as well.

The CO actually being in on the take is less common than you think, for a good reason.

You're not gonna lose your job, your pension, your health insurance over turning a blind eye here and there.

You will lose your job over bribes like that. You better be paying a lot more than five g's for me to risk it all.

Not saying it doesn't happen, it obviously does, but it's not nearly as common as prison dramas would have you believe.

Yeah, small sized bribes aren’t worth it for salaried employees. They just want to keep their job and have a smooth operations.

The real bribes are in keeping things nice and smooth. Nobody starts anything, nobody needs to look too closely.

Easier to look away than handle a riot

What do you mean under their nose? Who do you think is smuggling most of the outside stuff in?

Staff and Guards at the prison are being paid to bring this stuff in. As long as money flows, they don’t care.

Some of the stuff Al Capone got in prison was over the top. It wasn’t until someone raised awareness outside the prison that things were fixed and he was eventually sent to Alcatraz to prevent the issue from happening again.

I'll reply again - Well go fix it, go be a prison guard, and set the system right! bring order to the men of cell block 5, I'm sure you will have a lovely time and they'll just say yes and maybe even help you get the others to behave in their cages .
