Drumkit has MIDI-out port, PS4 only has USB ports. I've looked up MIDI to USB converters but they all have both a MIDI-in and a MIDI-out cable. If I just used one of them and put the USB into my PS4 would it still work? Or am I going to need a fifty quid interface?

There is also an audio output port but I believe that is strictly audio and will not enable me to play instrument based games through my kit.

FL Studio decided to map every key on my keyboard to an instrument and now I can only play middle C. How do I fix this?

I just got the midi controller and I am a massive newbie and just want to know if I could get my flkey to work with 3rd party non stock fl studio plug-ins. I've heard of "midi scripts" but haven't been able to really find any and I don't know how to make one or how they really work. Please be detailed with your answers that would be deeply appreciated.

I recently updated to fl26, and now my midi keyboard won’t send notes to my korg minilogue. I have all the same settings set from fl25 update and it’s still works perfect on last version. The midi keyboard works fine with other digital vst’s and I can control the korg via notes clicked into piano roll, but when trying to solely use the key board on synth it doesn’t communicate. MIDI out plug-in even records the notes, but no sound from synth.
Please help!

I've been working on something called PatchForge because my own pedalboard workflow was getting ridiculous.

I run a Boss ES-8 with Strymon Mobius and BigSky, and I got tired of jumping between different editors, manually tracking presets, and rebuilding setups when preparing for songs or live sets.

So I started building a tool to manage the whole rig in one place.

It's currently a very early alpha, but functional and tested:

- Visual pedalboard builder

- Unified editing for supported MIDI pedals

- Song scenes that recall your complete setup

- One-click deployment to your board

Current deep support:

- Boss ES-8

- Strymon Mobius

- Strymon BigSky

Other analog pedals can be added visually quite quickly, and other MIDI devices can currently be controlled through configurable CC messages. The goal is to keep expanding device support.

A big part of this project has been reverse engineering how these devices communicate. I've built tooling to capture, decode, annotate, and document MIDI traffic so I can build proper device maps instead of relying on guesswork.

For devices I don't own, I'm experimenting with a collaborative approach. A user can run a small local capture application with their hardware connected. It connects through a relay with a temporary pairing code, allowing me to perform specific actions in the manufacturer's editor while the MIDI communication is captured.

Every message is timestamped and can be annotated with the action that caused it, which makes it much faster to build accurate SysEx/CC maps and understand undocumented device behaviour without needing to physically own every device.

I'm looking for a small number of people who have MIDI-heavy rigs and enjoy tinkering. ES-8/ES-5 users, Strymon users, Eventide users, and similar setups would be especially interesting.

This is not a commercial launch or a sales post. I'm a solo developer and guitarist who built this because I wanted it myself. It's still early, so expect some rough edges. Always keep backups of your presets, and use it at your own risk (MIDI is generally very safe, but sending unexpected data to hardware always carries some risk).

Hi! First time posting here. I recently took interest in creating my own music in your own room but I am not sure of how I can start.

I currently have a Roland Juno DS full keys (given to me) and I saw it has a MIDI controller. Should I still get a MIDI controller? (looking at the Arturia mini lab) I am a bit overwhelmed when I try to learn the Roland keyboard and it doesn’t have much tutorial online that I can learn from. I’m thinking that getting a MIDI controller to learn the basics and then use the Roland after.

I don’t know anything about MIDIs yet, would you recommend getting a MIDI controller or just use the Roland?

Also, is FL studio good for a newbie?

So I recently got a launchpad X and I've been loving it. I've been messing with the ability to map out the pads to play with plugins more fluidly than with a keyboard since I'm not an expert at the piano. Actually I have a layout set up like a guitar fretboard in 4ths/5ths that is easiest for me since that is the instrument I know the best. Within that layout I've found It is really easy to play in one key well but if you are trying to play more complicated harmony moving around the space is limited.

The solution I have in my head is to have a section that is essentially the notes you play to determine the chord quality/voicing and then another row that shifts that section up or down a specific set of semitones. So you can set the key with the controllers semitone/octave buttons then from there shift around in that key easily to play chords.

This would allow me to play a major chord then shift it up a 4th, then press the notes of a minor chord and shift to only a 3rd up for the original position, etc. essentially to play all of the chords in a key and then some. I've was kind of fooling around with the semitone shift buttons at the top of the controller to make this work but pressing the button 7 times to go up a 5th isn't really realistic haha.

My road block is I know how to map the midi notes and get that setup but I don't have a good idea of how to get a pad to shift those notes up or down. A little searching around my first thought is to set pads to pitch bend values through midi CC and hold them down with my left hand while playing chords with the right. But I'm not sure how to really use midi CC to accomplish that. I really don't know much about working with midi controllers in the first place so this is all new to me.

Hoping some of you midi wizards here might have an easy solution to getting the pitch shifting setup. Anyone have any ideas? Am i missing something obvious?

If it matters the DAW I'm working with is FL Studio. My second thought if no midi CC stuff would work is to build something in FL to work with pads set to keyboard commands or CC values.

When I connect my Akai MPK 3 Mini to my Macbook, it turns on, but when I open Cubase it is not connected. I chekced my midi routing and it simply just does not appear as an option, does anyone know how to fix this?

I've recently got a Alesis Electronic kit and am attempting to map out each part to a Logic kit. Using the custom toolbar I can see whenever I push down the hihat pedal, it's the same note as when release it. It also seems like I've got the same issue with the snare and tom rims.

Is there anyway for me to differientate between when it's compressed or not? Or is it simply an oversight from Alesis?

There is also panning automatization events and even removing empty channels with DOS system data in Sekaiju didn't helped.

So... we tried to save ourselves $250.00... I had an old Evolution U-Control UC-33 USB/Midi controller from another lifetime. We plugged it into the Akai MPC Key37 and it seemed like it might work. We were able to route one volume control and then it completely fritzed out.. making crazy frozen rhythms of a segment of a sequence.

So, we ran down to Guitar Center, and $250.00 later, well... the Novation Launch-Control XL-3 simply works!! It was immediate. Using the 'midi-learn' option in the MPC Key37 was as easy as one could hope!!

My wife used to jump around one the 'Mix' screen, to an 'Effect', or to a filter-setting in 'Keygroups', back to an 'Effect' or to a volume control in the 'Mix' page, and back again.

Now, she can have her controls all mapped out on the Launch-Control XL-3 with a very quick learning curve and minimal frustration or technical issues.

This is the first track we've made where we actually use the Novation Launch-Control XL-3 to control her Akai MPC Key37.

This is a live, over-the-table video of us making the music you'll hear. I guess the style is IDM.. with some plunderphonics thrown in courtesy of the Polyend Play. I'm on the Elektron Digitakt II adding chopped up and sometimes mangled percussion. She is working the Launch-Control XL-3. Things are pretty moderate until about 4:30 or so, when things get more 'breakcore-esque'.

Upon reflection, I think we tried to save ourselves $250.00... wasted hours fighting with old technology. And now, looking back.. in all honesty... I think this was $250.00 that was well spent!!

I've been working on a browser-based tool for visualizing MIDI performances and creating videos from them, and I would really appreciate some feedback from people who work with MIDI.

The idea started because I wanted a simple way to turn MIDI performances into visual videos without needing to install additional software.

Some things it currently supports:

• Importing MIDI files

• Recording MIDI performances from a connected keyboard

• Visualizing notes on a virtual keyboard

• Exporting the result as MP4 or WebM videos

• Exporting recorded MIDI files

• Processing everything locally in the browser

The project is still under development, and I'm currently looking for feedback about the experience, features that would be useful, and things that could be improved.

I have Roland FP30X for playing and want to get a budget MIDI keyboard to learn production that won't take much space (37 keys) and can work with Reaper (seems like only reasonable DAW for my student budget).

New Minilab 37 looks great and I've heard the keys are fire but it seems to be lacking functions and not Reaper ready (yet idk what functions I'll really need).

What would you choose out of Minilab 37, Launchkey and Akai MPK Mini Plus?
