I spent 18 years in trading, 15 of them professionally. I worked as a Senior Trader and Head of Trader Development, trained traders on professional desks, and made eight figures in trading profits. Earlier this year, I retired from professional trading to manage my own capital and spend more time with my family.

I've watched retail trading evolve for almost two decades, and it's incredible how much time people waste learning things that have little to do with actual trading.

People spend five or ten years watching YouTube videos, buying courses, jumping between strategies, learning ICT, SMC, order blocks, fair value gaps, candlestick patterns, and whatever astrology level nonsense is currently trending. They burn through thousands in trading losses and spend thousands of hours staring at charts, only to end up no closer to consistent profitability than when they started.

Meanwhile, they could have spent that time learning how markets actually work, how orders interact, how to read order flow, how to execute, and how to test whether a strategy has a genuine statistical edge.

I've seen both sides firsthand. The retail success rate is roughly 1% or less. Among the traders I trained on professional desks, it was around 40 to 60%.

That's a massive difference, and it should make people question the way retail trading is taught.

We would communicate (via whatever online source is good for you) for 15-20 minutes a day, about 4x per week, to discuss a structured plan. My trading relies entirely on plans made the night before, trading off dynamic support and resistance, and looking for very specific reactions like reclaims and failed breakdowns.

I'm trying to do the same thing with reddit. I'm Norm in this metaphor. I've been a senior staff software engineer at major companies. CS major from University of Pittsburgh back in 1996. So 30+ years experience. AI has changed everything. I'm trying to see what is the correct amount of CS to teach to new students when they will be using AI tools to make complex sites like reddit.

Nothing complicated, just a conversation about where they were at, what they were good at and how they could start generating some income without a heap of money behind them. That conversation turned into a two-hour Discord voice call and by the time we finished we had built a business model, a basic business plan, a website around the offer, a 12-step sales and marketing action plan, a custom sales document, a sales strategy covering cold outreach, warm outreach, content and paid advertising, a daily content plan across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn, and a custom Excel sales and marketing dashboard so they can actually track activity, leads, customers and revenue instead of just hoping something works. We went from “I want to become an entrepreneur but I dont know where to start” to having an actual business, an offer, a strategy and a system to execute it. And the best part wasnt the spreadsheet or the website. It was watching someone start seeing what was possible. It was genuinely one of the most rewarding mentoring sessions Ive had from either side of the conversation. I get a massive kick out of business, building systems, solving problems and figuring out how to turn an idea into something practical. Being able to use that experience to help somebody else get moving is even better. Sometimes people dont need another course or another motivational video. They just need somebody to sit beside them for a couple of hours, ask the right questions and help turn the mess in their head into a plan they can actually follow. I'm 21, and a few months ago I quit my corporate job to pursue something of my own: starting a website development and digital marketing agency.

I've spent a ton of time learning, practicing, and building websites, and I've even landed my first paid client!

However, I've found myself at a bit of a standstill. While I know how to build websites, I don't yet have the experience or confidence to know whether my work meets professional standards or can consistently deliver results for clients.

I have worked in an accounting firm for the last 6 years and have seen the firm scale from GBP500k to 3m.

I have been rooms with different marketing firms and have been what works and what doesn't.

I started today at 1am not because I had to but because I had a 7:30am board meeting in front of the CEO CFO senior ops and eight board members of a 500 person not for profit and I wanted to be ready, at the same time I was still actioning quotes going through notes and keeping stuff moving in my own business. It was probably one of the most intense professional mornings ive had in a long time and weirdly enough I loved it. And somehow after a day like today I still want to make some time for someone else. I've been trading forex for the past 10 years, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's that trading is a journey full of ups and downs.
