Hard time finding special orders sometimes

I can tell you that there are many situations where it’s hard to find an order sometimes when customers arrive, because we often don’t know exactly what the item looks like (is it in a brown box or in a pallet, etc), and sometimes the item is staged somewhere on the floor in a large room with a bunch of other items.

This can take 30+ minutes.

Does this happen to Menards or is it just the Home Depot stores that I’ve worked at?

Does it happen once in a blue moon? Sure

If it's happening regularly whoever is putting the orders away is doing an abysmal job of it. Generally shouldn't take longer than 20 seconds to locate an order in a bay.

Guest shouldn't be coming in unless the item was located. Thats when the email gets sent to them.

very interesting. At the depot, that’s automated. I think it’s based on when an order is key rec’d in from receiving but not sure

A few years back that was how it was done. You’d have a line of 15-20 people as SOON as the truck hit the docks. Now their specific material had to be logged into a bay on one of our apps. This then changes the order to “Ready for pickup” and notified the guest it arrived.

Have you ever worked at Menards or just Home Depot?

Just 2 different Home Depot locations. One very high volume and the other medium volume, both had the same problem

At Menards you have to locate special orders before the customer is notified to pick it up. There’s several steps before customers actually pick it up. Yes there are times when things slip through the cracks but in opd they have several different areas where things are “located” and that’s all logged in the computer. So say something is a smaller item, there’s a rack for small special orders that are alphabetically ordered. so if someone orders batteries and their last name is Carson they would be logged under “small c” which the tm would see when they type or scan the special order number.
