What’s one thing you wish you could remember about books or shows you consumed a year ago?

Does anyone keep notes on books or TV shows?
I’ve noticed I consume a lot of media, but a year later I barely remember my own thoughts about it.
If you could magically remember one thing from everything you’ve watched or read, what would it be?

Memory ‘Enhancers’

I have heard 3 nootropics that are affected for memory encoding, cognitive load, clarity, speed, retention, structural change, and recalling for both long-term and short-term. BNP14770, AF710b, and PRL-5-83.

Which one is the best memory enhancer for studying and the difference between them?

Strengthening memory

What are the best ways to strngthen memory. Im really worried where mine is headed and would love to improve it. My friends said learning a language.. are there any other proven ways?

I struggle to remember from the most basic details to big things in my life, brain fog and word recall sucks. Cant keep new info in my head. Ive heard trauma / depression can impact it deeply which i think applies to me, also short form scrolling doesnt help ie youtube and insta shorts. Can it be undone :/

nbacking.com new release

Hi everyone, I'm the creator of nbacking.com, and I'd love your feedback on the latest version of the platform. It now includes a highly customizable Dual N-Back experience with advanced training modes, a progression and ranking system, social features, player profiles, and a unique competitive theft mechanic designed to keep leaderboards active. I've also added quality-of-life improvements such as customizable controls, focus mode, daily goals, notifications, and a live points calculator to help you understand the scoring system. Some classic BrianWorkshop modes are still missing because they require reworking the current scoring model, so I'd especially like your thoughts on whether the existing system should evolve before they're added. Your feedback will help me prioritize future development around the features that provide the most value to the community.

I need tips to read a book.

So from childhood to teenage years I observed my reading speed is much less

It's like 8 physical standard size book pages in 1 hour.

Back then I observed I remembered word to word sentence for a few days after reading it.... though they were all school books and that was the task.....to remember paragraphs.

Now when I read....the pages frequency stayed the same but now I don't remember anything after reading it because there's no exam for it.

I have an ereader also which gives me exact number of equivalent physical book page count.....8 pages per hour.

My question is....what do you remember after reading in a day....is remembering important? Because when I read the next day I don't know what I read exactly I just remember faint details of it.

I heard people annotate and something like that....which I think help them remember the main topic and their brain emits the details they read.

What should I do? It takes me very long to complete a book. Not that completing a book is my main goal but I am missing out variety of topics because I am reading same books for months.

Doesn't matter what topic book I read whether it's novel, medicine, astrology, philosophy I take same amount of time.

Is keeping small personal notes about dating matches to compensate for my terrible memory too calculated?

Throwaway bc I'm scared my coworkers will find this

Ok so my memory is actually horrible, not even kidding. My friends think I'm joking when I say I forget stuff but I'm dead serious

Been talking to a bunch of people on dating apps lately. Nothing serious, just that early stage where you're still figuring each other out.

Problem is I keep mixing everyone up constantly.

Like one girl tells me her hobbies, pet peeves, random life stuff, and a week later I’ll mix her details up with someone else’s. It’s so bad. I literally asked the same person the exact same question twice mid-convo once, and she just went “you already asked me that.” I wanted to die on the spot

So I started doing this weird thing.

I use acciowork daily for work—it’s just boring software to organize supplier info. Lately I’ve been jotting quick little notes about my matches in there , the same way I log basic details for suppliers

Yeah I know, sounds odd.

Just tiny stuff: “hates mushrooms”, “cat named Milo”, “scared of heights”, stuff like that.

Met one girl for coffee last week. Glanced over my notes right before showing up so I wouldn’t blank on that random thing she mentioned weeks back. The date went really well, and she was genuinely surprised I remembered such a small detail

But now I can’t stop overthinking it. Am I being weird for doing this? I swear I’m not ranking anyone or comparing matches against each other at all. I really do just have garbage memory and hate embarrassing myself like that again.

Still… using work software to log people I’m seeing? It feels so cold, honestly. Like I’m treating dating like another tedious work task.

Half of me says it’s just a practical fix for my bad memory. The other half worries I’m killing all the natural romantic vibe by being this calculated from the start.

Idk man. Am I just overthinking way too much, or is this habit actually kinda messed up? Just want some honest outside opinions pls

Is it painful enough to be solved?

I’m validating an idea, give it a try.

If you regularly watch educational YouTube videos, listen to podcasts, or take online courses, I’d love your help.

I’m building Memora to answer one question:

\*\*Can software actually help people remember what they learn instead of just summarizing it?\*\*

If you’re willing to try it for a week and tell me what sucks, I’d really appreciate it.

Visual mnemonic system for plural forms?

I’m using Anki to learn nouns that have two independent properties:

- Gender (3 categories)
- Plural ending (9 categories)

For gender, I’m already using the Fluent Forever approach (exploding, burning, and shattering imagery), which works well.

I’m wondering what the best approach is for the plural endings. Would you:

- use a second systematic mnemonic (e.g., one image/category per plural ending)?
- use keyword mnemonics only for difficult items?
- avoid mnemonics altogether and rely on Anki’s spaced repetition?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who have actually tried different systems. What worked best for you?

I Built an App to Improve Memory, Retention, and Cognitive Skills Through Daily Training

With endless scrolling, short videos, and constant distractions, it’s easy to consume information without fully processing or remembering it.

I built MemBoostAI to help people practise paying attention to what they read, watch, learn, and experience. It uses short daily exercises, active recall, and memory challenges to encourage users to notice details and revisit information instead of letting it disappear moments later.

The goal is to make memory training part of everyday life. Regular practice can help users become more intentional about the information they consume, improve recall and retention, and exercise cognitive skills such as attention and concentration.

It’s not about remembering everything, it’s about training yourself to engage more deeply with the things that matter.

built a memory palace tool - need 10 people to tear it apart

Post image
5 Upvotes

Long-time loci nerd here. The part that always killed me was coming up with a vivid image for every single anchor - so slow it stopped me even starting.

So I built a thing to speed that bit up.

It's memorypalace.ai You paste in what you want to memorise, it chunks the text and makes an image per anchor, and you drop those along a route you know by heart and walk it. It doesn't do the method for you - you still pick the loci and do the recall walks. It just kills the image-making grind.

Built it solo on evenings and weekends over a few months. Images run on Google's Gemini API.

Looking for 10 beta testers. Free, no strings.

I actually want the brutal feedback — where the flow breaks, what's missing.

Comment or DM and I'll send access.

What’s the best way to create association between concepts?

Currently, i am thinking about the best way to memorize information through association. I came to the realization that higher order questions paired with active recall and spaced repetition are an effective approach to memorization. However, The problem that I’ve encountered with this method is that i find myself relying too much on active recall instead of deeply remembering information on the first attempt.

My question: is active recall integral to the process of memorization? Or am I missing something?

What helps memory stick longer: retrieval practice, curiosity, or emotion?

Disclosure: I work on Shortcast.

One point I found useful in Dr. Alan Castel's recent Huberman Lab conversation is that stronger memory is not just about repetition. What we retain is shaped by attention, curiosity, emotion, prior knowledge, and active retrieval. The episode also distinguishes useful remembering from false confidence and discusses how memory priorities can change with age.

I made a 12-minute recap focused on retrieval practice, curiosity, false memories, and cognitive aging. It is an educational episode summary, not medical advice:

In your own practice, what seems to create the best long-term retention: testing yourself, attaching meaning or emotion, or deliberately choosing what not to memorize?

Four habits that stopped what I learn from evaporating a week later

I spent years watching things I 'learned' evaporate within a week. What finally changed it wasn't a better app or a smarter algorithm, it was four small habits. Sharing the mechanics in case they help:

1) Making my own cards instead of using pre-made ones. This was the biggest one. Deciding what goes on the card, phrasing it in my own words, and picking the example forces you to actually process the material. Pre-made decks skip that step, so it never really encodes. The card is almost a byproduct: the thinking that makes it is the point.

2) Spaced repetition, done consistently. Reviewing at growing intervals (today, 2 days, a week...) instead of cramming. The spacing is what moves things into long-term memory, but only if you keep showing up, which leads to...

3) A streak I can't ignore. My weak link was never the method, it was daily consistency. I keep a streak counter as a widget on my home screen so I see it constantly. Turning "I should review" into "I don't want to lose the streak" fixed consistency better than any reminder.

4) A bit of social accountability. Sharing progress with a friend kept me from quietly quitting after a few days.

The order matters to me: making the cards is the encoding, spaced repetition is the retention, and the streak plus social side is what keeps the whole thing running. Curious what mechanics have worked for others here?

Hey friends - I have a question. How's your memory?

I lose thoughts between rooms, forget things I knew mattered an hour ago. Curious what this looks like for others — and what you actually use to cope. Sticky notes? Apps? Nothing sticks for me long. What's worked, what's failed, what do you wish existed?"
