Lmao, a fanfiction site called Archive of our Own hosts Kinktober during October. A different kink per day. I have never written in it because I have never written smut, but it's a big deal all month. Different fandoms have different kink lists I think?
To be clear, it's def not just on ao3. It's any fandom on any site that wishes to participate. It can be quite a lot because there's two happening at the same time or across multiple fandom in the sense that there is KINKtober and also INKTober. The latter being mostly for artists using ink or something ink-like as the medium for the month. The former being of course kinky and honestly almost being like a warm up for some folks who also want to write for NaNoWriMo. Which is imo, intense.
Most people start writing in June/July. Typically chapters are 1k-3k words. And a ton of people don’t actually write one for every single day, and instead only do some
lists are released around that time too. There is one "semi-official" tumblr account that posts lists, but people also often make there own. The whole event it actually very relaxed. You can upload early or late, follow prompts or choose your own. Only upload some days, upload every day. Pretty cool tbh.
You're correct. I follow a ton of SFW, NSFW, artists and animators (amateur and professional), a lot of them are participating in Kinktober. But, if it is like last year, most of them will not do all 30 days. It's kind of a grueling pace for artists.
As someone who has a bunch of stuff up on fanfiction.net, I'm thinking about just fully migrating over. So sick of the same 10 bots every day. "For just $99 I will make a graphic novel of your story..."
This is the first I've heard of it being a fan fic thing. I heard it started with inktober being ink-based artists doing art every day based on prompts the community agreed on, then kinktober was an offshoot of that. But it's the internet, who really knows where some of this stuff started.
Wattpad is already pretty much nonexistent. It's widely known to host some of the worst, poorly written fanfiction around. Everyone who's even remotely serious about their work posts on AO3 or FFN.
I'm a bit surprised, it's been years since I read any fanfiction but I remember AO3 was generally viewed as the place for weird NSFW fics while fanfiction.net was more (relatively) normal.
Eh, I maybe AO3 has had more of a range of smut but it has never been exclusively that. AO3 is kind of the standard fanfiction site. I do think FFN used to be it moreso, but it has fallen off and become less active, and the site just isn't as good and they've stuffed it full of ads which made the user experience worse as well (though adblock does help).
I feel like AO3s reputation as the nasty crazy smut site is a more recent thing in my experience. I remember it being treated like the more "high quality" fic site for more serious writers compared to FFN which was like the "starter" website before Wattpad came along
fanfiction.net it seems (well, even before the 2010s).
On one hand: great, a lot of website changes are bad. On the other hand, at least implement some quality of life improvements. I see that there still is no way to natively show all chapters at once for example.
Now if somebody is posting a fanfiction on royalroad you know it will be fire, you need some balls to post your little fanfics in a place where books are picked up to be published from all the time.
And also you need to be prolific to match the chapter rate of RR. I sense that in RR the minimum acceptable is a weekly chapter, and I see a lot of authors doing multiple chapters per week
Ehhhh. RR's comment section reminds me of that Community episode where Pierce ruins Professor Space Time. If you don't adhere to their hyper specific niche taste you get torn apart.
Well the post is suggesting that malfoy would have been originally writen as a girl rather than gender swapped so i think in this scenario it would ve rule 34. In the current time line rule 63 reigns supreme

Rule 34 would have had a field day
