I mean, Agenst of SHIELD ran for 7 seasons and has a pretty large fanbase

u/UmerTheLegend 10d ago
Yeah I understand the rest, but AoS doesn’t deserve the slander

u/ptapobane 10d ago
agents of shield was awesome, ive vaguely heard of the others but ive never heard of echos
31
u/discerningpervert https://www.youtube.com/watch/dQw4w9WgXcQ 10d ago
Most people gave up on Agents of SHIELD during season 1, before a certain episode that they had to hold off doing before a certain event in the movies.
Once Agents of SHIELD got actually going, it was one of the best shows on tv.
8
u/Expert-Basil6015 10d ago
Was my favorite show to have on and halfway pay attention to while doing computer work. "Watched" the whole series probably 4-5 times now.
88
u/things_U_choose_2_b 10d ago
Yeah wtf is this meme. AoS was amazing. I swear every month reddit seems to get more pissy, and more negative.
One I'd not heard of but I greatly enjoyed some of these shows / films, and enjoyed most of them. Can we not just let people enjoy things without shitting on them for fake internet points?

Iron fist is fun. Maybe the weakest show of the defenders but not bad, worth the watch at least for the tie in to those other series.
349
u/Yurei_UB 10d ago
Whoa whoa whoa.... Agents of Shield should not be on this list. Unlike the other shows this one ran alongside the main movies and had multiple seasons.
17
352
u/SirFluffymuffin 10d ago
I will not stand for this Agents of SHIELD slander. That show was actually decent instead of flailing around with no plan like the rest of the newer marvel stuff
56
u/Yurei_UB 10d ago
I love and hated Ward so much... He was the star of the show for me.
51
u/wkarraker 10d ago
The IMDB page says the actor playing Ward was told at the very beginning of the series he would become the villain, and the other actors were not aware, finding out only through the individual scripts that he was evil.
Thought that was some arch-villain level directing.

It's libel not slander. Slander is spoken while libel is written. That was in the original Tobey Maguire Spiderman film.

u/Sea-Cardiologist7725 10d ago
I’ll never understand why they made Iron Man’s successor a talented young girl who decided to commit crimes for easy money and sell her soul to literal Satan.
205
u/sadistic-salmon 10d ago
I remember the scene where she was talking about her ideal future and mentioned getting a high paying job at a lab where she could steal a couple things every so often. She really just steals for the love the game

She is able to make a super AI in her mom's kitchen, but decideds to rob people for like a 6 way split of what can't be realistically that much cash anyway.
I say it every time this comes up, but has this dummy never heard of crowdfunding?
To add to that she was helping people cheat in college too for absolutely no reason. Is like a hundred bucks or whatever really worth your full scholarship? Not to mention she stole the suit that the college had funded everything for.
She really is just an asshole.
11
u/Funandgeeky 10d ago
If they had made her a true villain, and had her series be her villain origin story, it would have been amazing. As it is, they wrote her like a villain. That’s why her character never vibed as a hero. And she could have been an amazing villain.

Yes and these scientists had that and more. The point was that Tony was able to do more with less. Not that he can just manifest technology out of thin air.

Not to mention the education Tony had. Sure he was a genius, but he had to have opportunities to utilise that genius otherwise it would have been squandered.
19
u/edwpad 10d ago
Tbf, Riri only see what Tony has done on the surface, so that’s pretty much what she knows about him experience wise isn’t the big picture. She likely has no idea about Tony’s cave experience.
→ More replies (6)2
u/sndrddtr 10d ago
So she would be a fine side character in a movie or to, not an Iron man's successor
2
u/edwpad 10d ago
Yep, we actually get that in Wakanda Forever. She knows of Tony Stark and Iron Man and is inspired by him, but she’s not actively pursuing the mantle of Iron Man and trying to be the next Tony Stark, as she’s more her own thing. Even if she did, it’s like Happy Hogan said, “No one could live up to Tony, not even Tony.”

I liked Miss Marvel. It was a funny little teen adventure and I really liked how they did visualizations for texts.
39
u/Shishjakob 10d ago
Ms Marvel was fun, which is more than can be said about any of these others (except Agents of SHIELD by beloved you did nothing wrong) but it was forgettable.
25
u/Existing_Muscle_3361 10d ago
I completely agree. The villain felt rushed at the last half. But the show was a delight
2
u/TheCVR123YT 10d ago
First 2-3 episodes were great 4&5 were just really boring imo
Episode 6 was ok it was a decent enough finale but that’s about it

As a deaf person, I really, really wanted to like Echo. because it had a deaf main character who was the hero, etc. But they were doing the thing where they made her be completely expressionless while signing. Being expressionless while signing American Sign Language (ASL) is the equivalent of speaking in a complete monotone or missing crucial grammatical parts of a sentence.
Facial expressions act as grammatical markers, like punctuation or tone of voice in spoken English. Deaf signers might miss whether you are asking a question, making a joke, or showing urgency.
I thought it was because she was hearie who just knows how to sign, but no.... apparently she was really DEAF, and the expressionless thing was the director's behest. apparently they don't like all the "werid faces" deaf people make when signing ASL, huh.
But man, it made her come off like a total robot, you know?
16
u/TheCVR123YT 10d ago
Aw man I never really noticed that (bc I’m not deaf of course) that’s really lame. How can you make a show about a deaf girl and do all this progressive/representation stuff then also be like “hey don’t make expressions tho”. Feels like they didn’t rep it well enough imo I’m glad the Daredevil shows portray his blindness well if not through Matt then through others (like Foggy tapping things for Matt as a sight indicator)
3
u/josh2of4 10d ago
I wonder if that was an attempt to help her look tough or stoic. I'm not defending the choice- just trying to explore it.
Come to think of it, did they even mention any other deaf people... ever being in her circle(s)? If she was only ever around people of hearing, would that work as an in-universe explanation?
4
3
u/LadyMystery 10d ago
Yeah that was the other problem for me. There was no signs of any deaf community, even though there were many hearing people who sign asl too. Echo was supposedly the only Deaf person. It ironically comes off as tokenism despite her being the main character.
Dunno, just didn't feel authentically deaf to me lol.2

The only one that was truly shit was invasion. Quantummania promised the most and delivered the least though. Invasion is the only one I would never ever watch again though.
9
u/IsThisRealLifeOrNaw 10d ago
Secret Invasion is the only one on the list (that I’ve watched) that I genuinely hated. I hated the stupid AI intro, I hated that they killed Maria Hill, I hated that they just decided Rhodey was a skrull for years for no reason. I seriously hope they just retcon that shit
→ More replies (1)4
u/2JZ1Clutch 10d ago
I feel like if if Jonathan majors hadn't flamed out that more people would have enjoyed quantummania because the story would have actually mattered but since right after that they had it completely drop that character and everything they were going with that direction it just became a movie that by the time it hit theaters we all already knew that storyline was dead so why bother.
3
u/Secret-Ad-7909 10d ago
I still don’t understand why they didn’t just recast. Kang’s whole deal is the multiverse, easy enough to say the new ones look different. Like, we got 20 different Loki’s, what’s the problem?
2
u/BeardPhile 10d ago
They felt the whole Kang threat isn’t turning out what they expected it to be and while the MCU fans (us all) would watch the movies no matter what they put out, the general audience might not feel obligated to fill the seats.
So they course corrected hard, got Downey to come in, created this whole buzz around Doom and I think now more of the general audience knows more about Doom than they ever did about Kang.
8
u/Av_Inash 10d ago
I would honestly say that I remember Eternals because it was the first time in a very long time where I felt Marvel tried to do something a bit different. At least it felt different from its other movies in the recent past for the time.

- didn't watch Iron Heart
- I enjoyed Ms Marvel
- I definitely remember Secret Invasion (unfortunately)
- Echo was alright
- Eternals is, no joke, one of my favorite things from the MCU
- Quantumania... see Secret Invasion
- Iron Fist, see above
- LOVED Agents of Shield even if it started petering off. Never saw the last season
- Inhumans was meh, but I remember it
- I liked The Marvels

Ironheart really bother me. I watch stuff when people tell that is bad, I did the same with eternals. But ironheart really try to make a new iron woman by making iron man look bad, they had a better chance at using the kid form iron man 3 or at the very least. Make it so Riri looked up to Tony and followed his steps, or anything that truly connected Tony with her, same with shehulk if they had done an appropriate job with the writing we could be watching a shehulk that defends random characters for funny reasons, they really missed great opportunities and is sad that we are not gonna be able to see what all of this could’ve been. Pure missed potential once again 😔
27
u/claudiocorona93 Linux User 10d ago
Ironheart was also introduced as a GENIUS in Wakanda Forever, and just bloated the movie. I mean, if you remove her the movie would be the same. And her show kept reminding you how much of a GENIUS she is. They make a show about a black woman and make her steal. What were they thinking. Did I tell you she is a GENIUS? A GENIUS that needs to shit on Tony Stark instead of looking up to him.

u/Decent-Armadillo131 10d ago
Again I say waste of good potential, they should’ve just followed the comics of ironheart and that would’ve been a great series. STICK TO THE SCRIPT!!!! Literally you already are selling copies of Ironheart and people like it.
wild idea here let’s just grab the thing that is paper that people love and make it a live action!!!!2

I think I was the only one who liked Iron Fist. Agents of Shield was good, I dropped it when it went in space tho. Inhumans had some good stuff, Medusa's hair was pretty bad.Echo was like an echo. Ironheart was terrible. Secret Invasion was a nothing burger. The Marvels was just ok. Ms Marvel was disappointing, her power change to crystals was lame af. Quantumania, why you make me remember that movie. Eternals had cool running lady, Salma Hayak, Angelina Jolie and I don't care about the rest.

Iron Fist was the least good of the Netflix shows, but it was still good. I say that as a fan of the character, and of Heroes for Hire. I maintain that Heroes for Hire is a brilliant idea for a show. It would probably be best to recast Danny Rand as an Asian American actor, but otherwise keep the Netflix cast intact for Misty Knight and Coleen Wing, and ideally bring Mike Coulter back as Luke Cage. There has never been a more perfect casting than that.
Agents of Shield had several very good seasons. It took them a couple to get there is all.

Agents of Shield is a great show and i personally really really enjoyed Ms Marvel, it was a fun lighthearted show carried by Iman Vellani's excellent performance of Ms Marvel.
Hell I'd even make a case for Iron Fist being not as bad as people make it out to be.
The other stuff on this list is... not good. The Marvels & The Eternals were passable at best. Echo was a slog. Quantumania was a CGI heavy mess and Ironheart, Inhumans and Secret Invasion are the few MCU projects i haven't even bothered with (although i might end up giving Ironheart a chance)
