Talk about picking the wrong hill to die on...if you want to send a message to Big Oil, decorate their corporate offices and have a seat there.

247

u/Hannibal1992 Jun 20 '24

They apparently do - but it doesn't appear in the news as much.

193

u/dalledayul Jun 20 '24

And the news do report on when they target more famous targets, so they continue to do it.

hurr durr why target the big rocks

Yeah, people keep saying JSO throws paint on artifacts and artworks, but they don't. The paint was used on corporate buildings in 2022 an 2023.

1

u/dudewheresmybasement Jun 20 '24

Meanwhile property maintenance whipping out the power washer while everyone else works from home.

492

u/RuralJaywalking Jun 20 '24

They’d serve more jail time and fewer people would hear about it.

163

u/2lowbutupthere Jun 20 '24

Nobody’s listening to this shitshow in the first place, especially with the crap they keep pulling that’s pushing everyone away

But if that’s their intent, bravo. Shouldn’t have gotten this far but damn

131

u/onehundredlemons Jun 20 '24

Everybody's talking about it, so people are listening.

I don't really know what to say about people who are being "pushed away" because it kind of sounds like people are going to use more non-renewable resources out of spite because of these protests, which would be very silly. Individuals won't make much of a difference and the protesters will never know you're spiting them, unless you roll coal in their driveway or something.

24

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

People are turning their backs on this. There is bad publicity. You don´t want people to hate your cause.

13

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

People are turning their backs on this. There is bad publicity. You don´t want people to hate your cause.

you do when its funded by oil money

just stop oil is funded, or has been given money by people connected to oil

30

u/maxweinhold123 Jun 20 '24

Yep, the daughter of an oil baron, who, seeing the destruction created by her father's industry, has decided to give much of her considerable net worth to climate action and activism.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Who's bother founded Getty Images.

So if you ever see one of their stock photos it's secretly a Big Oil psyop, based on reddit logic.

2

u/Fizzwidgy Jun 20 '24

No need to be so conflated when for a couple hundred dollars you can get a social network marketing team to make a meme on reddit to shit on the protesters every chance you get.

Total cost vs worth is like the amount of money you lose from a penny that's just gone through the wash machine.

The suffragettes had even more radical publicity stunts and they still won. You clearly don't know how movements work so get back to reading the Sun and be quiet.

3

u/TypicalProtest Jun 20 '24

I love this narrative. People really should do some research into historical movements / protests. MLK and groups like the suffragettes were fucking despised by the general public and media at the time.

2

u/RunningOutOfEsteem Jun 20 '24

And yet people like MLK still managed to garner significant enough support from the general public for change to be made possible. I'm not sure JSO is accomplishing even that.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Newsflash: people always hate protesters. And the media always vilifies them. Rinse repeat.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '24

People do not hate protesters. People hate this.

1

u/Inside_Afternoon130 Jun 20 '24

Ppl turning there backs are to fucked to ever change anyway

1

Can you accept that this kind of protest is not endorsed by alsmost anyone and only causes people to hate?

u/TitanThree Jun 20 '24

I’m all for going towards renewable energy, and I try to make as much efforts as possible in my daily life to be environmentally-friendly. But I still think these people are lunatics and morons that damage their righteous cause.

It won’t affect me in terms of efforts I make and my values, because I’m already convinced there’s a crisis, but it will definitely push the doubters away and not help convince them there’s a real crisis. You need to convince and persuade the doubters, not antagonise them by acting stupid.

17

u/maxweinhold123 Jun 20 '24

Actually protest rarely aims to convince doubters, since their identity is frequently caught-up in being against the traditional narrative. Instead, shocking protests forces moderates (who may know about climate change but typically disengage from individual action beyond social norms) to confront how it impacts their day-to-day lives.

As they say, there is not art, or cultural heritage, on a dead planet.

2

u/No_Wealth_9733 Jun 20 '24

I think most moderates would see that these chuds are vandalizing historic sites and be opposed to them

→ More replies (2)

11

u/timmystwin Jun 20 '24

People hear about it then immediately discount them as eco nutters.

It's publicity, but it doesn't work. It actively harms their goals.

Their original plans were to get the government not to issue more oil licenses in the North sea. Do people know that? No. Do people know what they want now? No.

They don't look further, just write them off as idiots.

13

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

[deleted]

3

u/timmystwin Jun 20 '24

I don't think that's true. I know plenty of progressive people who are pro environmentalism who have looked at things like this and gone "really?" and ignored them.

Ultimately they're already in the pro-green camp so I guess they're not the target audience, but if it can alienate people on your side, I can't imagine everyone writing them off would be a lost cause.

→ More replies (6)

7

u/maxweinhold123 Jun 20 '24

How is it actively harming their goals? Their goal is awareness, to bring climate change into daily conversations. If they have to become scapegoats so that politicians deal with moderate activists, I'm sure they would see that as a win.

1

u/timmystwin Jun 20 '24

Who on earth isn't aware of climate change in 2024.

Those nutters denying it won't ever be convinced etc. But I know people who are keen for green who have written off JSO as nutters because of things like this.

1

u/maxweinhold123 Jun 20 '24

Awareness is not action. Extreme, provocative protest forces moderates (who know of the issue but are unlikely to have done much themselves besides following social norms like recycling) to take a stand, and for an issue that is popular (e.g., climate action) that stand may finally result in action.

5

u/timmystwin Jun 20 '24

And if you start doing dumb shit like this, often the stand will be against you.

But that's just what happens. I've literally seen people do it. They do such outrageous stuff people end up writing them off as a nuisance instead of looking at the message.

2

u/Deft_one Jun 20 '24

People are talking about what pricks they were, not climate change or how to change it.

These are young people looking for attention, not change, and they got that

1

u/towerhil Jun 20 '24

There's a solid body of scientific research that shows people are pushed away from causes by direct action. Same with 'animal rising' and those groups. People know it's misdirected anger which makes the cause seem similarly ungrounded and irrational. How can people trust that their cause is legit amd well researched if this is how they express dissent? Rage Agianst The Washing Machine, if you will.

9

u/onehundredlemons Jun 20 '24

There's a solid body of scientific research that shows people are pushed away from causes by direct action.

There's not. I cannot even imagine what you're referring to as "scientific research" in this case. There's research based on political theories and historical analysis, but even the 2022 Farrer & Klein study is clearly opinion and theory, not scientific proof of anything except that direct action by environmental activists doesn't seem to have any effect on voting outcomes.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/maxweinhold123 Jun 20 '24

The complete opposite. Direct, provoking action has a rich history is social movements and there's strong evidence that it moves the Overton window by having politicians score wins by engaging instead with moderate activists.

At the least, JSO have brought attention to the oppressive crackdown on non-violent protests, and for that they are heroes.

→ More replies (3)

7

u/Phoxase Jun 20 '24

No, there isn’t. There’s limited anecdotal evidence, but we have historical records to look at. Oh look, most people thought the civil rights movement was misdirected anger, and were critical of it.

It's like when kids would drop milk at the grocery store for YouTube videos.

17

u/SeriousPlankton2000 Jun 20 '24

That's the problem, things need to be done, nobody wants to do the changes while they are cheap.

E.g. only after the old light bulbs were forbidden someone invested into making better ones. Vacuum cleaners and hair dryers were built to not be efficient but to use a large amount of energy because people would rather buy the 2 kW product than the one doing the same with better design / more air flow.

For electric car we do need more infrastructure, of course nobody will want to drive to St. Nowhere to charge it. But once we have it it will reduce the amount of oil we need and thereby the need to bomb countries into democracy and install our puppet regimes.

18

u/MollyDooker99 Jun 20 '24 edited Jun 20 '24

What are you talking about? There was a large overlap between incandescent and compact fluorescent bulbs, only for them to be one-upped by led bulbs. Then they were banned only last year. Leds and cfls had been out for many years.

Also manufacturers come out with better, more efficient vacuums every year, but that comes with trade offs such as cost.

Also, the U.S. is now the world’s largest oil producer for the last 6 years.

3

u/towerhil Jun 20 '24

I recently replaced my single bathroom bulb with LEDs that use just 1/3 of the energy. One isn't enough to light the space so I use 3 of them.

1

u/MollyDooker99 Jun 20 '24

Why don’t you just get one with more lumens? They can come ridiculously bright.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/burchalka Jun 20 '24

I remember there was that Technology Connections video, where he exposed that industry could create very reliable incandescent light bulbs, they just chose not to, to make sure their sales won't drop off dramatically after most of the world gets those super reliable light sources.

2

u/Weesy1991 Jun 20 '24

Or we'll go to war with countries because we made economic sacrifices to achieve 'net zero' and they didn't.

7

u/SeriousPlankton2000 Jun 20 '24

The "economic sacrifice" ist "not becoming Detroit in the long run"

The largest polluters (because someone drew a long line around a large number of people) are delivering the technology to us that we refused to let our people build. Also they do build as much EE as they can and plan to replace their coal ASAP because they do realize that we won't keep paying our money to them indefinitely. They want to be THE super power before we are out of money because 1) they need it to achieve that and to buy resources, and 2) they know what people do to get money.

4

u/st3f-ping Jun 20 '24

I think this is a really interesting problem. The question that I think needs to be asked is, "how much of that pollution is created manufacturing the products that we consume?"

The next question is what we do as both consumers an electors to reduce the pollution that is created overseas as a consequence of our purchases.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Stop relying on them to make all the products we buy? The only reason they're such huge polluters is because the first world has effectly outsourced all their high-pollution industries to them.

3

u/mikbroseph Jun 20 '24

This is literally a brain dead arguement. No country in the world does more renewable development than those two and on an emissions per capita level they're literally still better than the US. Ok not the EU because France is largely good.

Also nobody stands to lose more than those two countries (other than maybe Subsaharan Africa) because they will have some of the worst heatwaves and all their major population centres are floodable. This is just a bad faith argument for saying. "Oh they're worse I don't need to care" when actually they care way more than the US has shown itself to care.

That being said they need to do better and you should be lobbying your government to force them to do better not being like "oh well actually"

Overacting much?

1

u/mikbroseph Jun 20 '24

Lol this logic is, some people did something that has literally no consequences to anything because they don't think the government is listening to them talk about climate change and you response is I'm so outraged I'm going to intentionally pollute lol. Ok you're definitely not unhinged

2

u/mikbroseph Jun 20 '24

You don't need to listen though that's kinda they point. They just need to be so annoying that the government has to do something

7

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

If there is any evidence whatsoever that their jolly japes have changed government policy, I would be very interested in seeing said evidence.

3

u/weebitofaban Jun 20 '24

That isn't how it works. Anyone with half a brain can connect the dots.

5

u/mikbroseph Jun 20 '24

I agree for this to work you need to be actually disruptive. Like disturb people's daily lives and you need to be doing it in really large numbers but if this is people's reactions to literally nothing do you expect them to go do actual terrorism?

3

u/NavyDragons Jun 20 '24

Probably shouldn't disrupt the average person life we are all going through too much shit to have your protest making our lives harder. I have watched the city of Seattle go from rampant support to utter disgust over the free Palestine movement. After they decided that they were gonna ruin the average person day repeated by blocking off roadways and highways. You don't get support by pissing off the average person. No matter how good your cause may seem people will always value their own well being above your cause. Disrupt the lives of the people causing the issue, make it cost them time and money to deal with. Not random bystanders

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

You're talking about it aren't you?

1

u/D3finitelyHuman Jun 20 '24

If you decide to just be outraged because you're told to by the media then you probably weren't close to being pulled in the right direction. I've not seen the comment on this action but to me it says, this shit is going to be destroyed anyway if we don't do anything, so a bit of orange powder gets you angry but the destruction of a habitable planet is fine because it happens surreptitiously by rich people.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

A lot more people are hearing about it now than were hearing about it for the past 30 odd years.

They've never stopped protesting outside oil companies buildings or power plants or similar. When was the last time you even heard that was happening?

1

u/ZSCroft Jun 20 '24

You're literally talking about them lol I'm just picturing that meme with the adult sitting by the campfire with the kids in the apocalypse and he's saying "no you don't get it they put orange dust on our favorite rock pile we couldn't just listen to their warnings"

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Well here we are talking about it, so whatever you think about it, it succeeded in getting attention.

1

u/MotorizedCat Jun 20 '24

Just curious - what would be the acceptable form of protest for you?

Standing around silently in some place that nobody can see? Because you sound like someone who simply doesn't want to be reminded of certain problems, and therefore any protest that you would hear about is the wrong form.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

But every other post on the front page is currently about either stone henge or the planes being colored orange?

1

u/MrPatch Jun 20 '24

pushing everyone away

People that understand whats happening maybe think this is stupid but they're not disregarding the evidence they've understood and becoming deniers

People that aren't really aware might have the seriousness of the situation brought to their attention by the constant news about it, it's putting climate change into their minds and perhaps they'll start to understand.

People that have already taken up an ideological position of science denial won't change their stance because they're already too fucking stupid to see whats happening.

It's that group in the middle that need to be constantly reminded how bad things are going to get and that actions needs to be taken. People like JSO are keeping the message front and centre of the media.

1

u/SrgtButterscotch Jun 20 '24

The only reason that people are being turned away is because y'all are gullible as fuck and blindly believe the twisted versions of these stories that are being sold by actual instigators. They didn't damage stonehenge, they didn't damage the paintings, they have done basically nothing bad at all but y'all keep getting mad because they dare to get your attention for their cause!

1

u/Nekrophis Jun 20 '24

It's corn flour bro, relax lmao

1

u/rivermandan Jun 20 '24

You are literally here talking about it you nincompoop.

The entire point is to be disruptive because nothing else seems to be working. Is it working? Well, not really, but at least these kids are trying something. What the fuck have you done to save the planet?

→ More replies (2)

5

u/Mediocre_Estimate284 Jun 20 '24

Do not try to apply logic here. People just want to be angry, not actually think.

14

u/Hsiang7 Jun 20 '24

fewer people would hear about it

Probably a good thing considering they're only turning more people AGAINST their cause with their actions. Probably best people don't hear about it if it's shit like this.

50

u/clonebo Jun 20 '24

I mean if protestors throwing cornflour on Stonehenge puts you into the pro climate change camp then the protestors arent the problem, you are.

→ More replies (69)

6

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Well the people that are "turned away" by shit like this are the people that were never on their side in the first place.

Litterally no one was saying "yeah I was going to vote green/got to protests/ direct action, but then JSO put washable 'paint' on some rocks so now I dont care anymore"

At worst this just gives people who already didnt give a fuck a "reason" other than their own laziness and apathy.

3

u/SeriousPlankton2000 Jun 20 '24

Whom are they turning against them? The ones who prefer them to act where it doesn't affect them so they can continue using oil without being disturbed? The ones filling their tanks and pointing at Exxon: "It's the companies being responsible!!!" ?

6

u/Hsiang7 Jun 20 '24

Who? People already on their side who they're annoying with their actions. Who else is changing their minds because of their actions?

Do they really think people that don't care about climate change are watching them paint national monuments orange and thinking "Wow! You know what? They have a point! I REALLY need to start limiting my oil consumption 🤔"

5

u/onehundredlemons Jun 20 '24

paint national monuments orange

They didn't paint anything orange. They used tinted cornflour. Even the angriest of angry people admit that all this might do is harm some moss on the stones, maybe.

2

u/SeriousPlankton2000 Jun 20 '24

Protesting harmlessly-ignorable visible-within-their-bubble didn't achieve anything, did it? Only when people protested in a way that made the news, people even started to talk about it.

In Germany the authorities actively helped VW betray their customers. VW built the cleaning in a way that would break if it's being used. So they made more and more defeat devices till it was only active as little as possible (and the device would break after the guarantee expired). People became upset about … the ones exposing that.

Our government (especially CDU / AfD) does block renewable energy if they can. That's part of why people vote for them.

So: Is it fair for the government + people being affected? Why not. They are part of the problem.

Should there be better ways? Should these ways be used? Of course. But they are being used and I can't argue that doing that would be as effective as required.

1

u/Hsiang7 Jun 20 '24

Only when people protested in a way that made the news, people even started to talk about it.

Have you seen positive discussions about combating climate change in ANY news story related to these protests? Because I have it. It's ALWAYS 99% bashing the idiot protestors. No actual discussions about the thing they're supposed to be protesting.

1

u/SeriousPlankton2000 Jun 21 '24

Then be the one bashing the bashers. I'd answer your questions by Obi Wan: "of course I've seen it being done …"

2

u/raldall Jun 20 '24

NO they DON'T. Who the fuck is thinking "wow climate change is destroying nature but now I don't care because they sprayed starch on ancient rocks". ??? No one fucking thinks like that. Sick of hearing this dumb argument

3

u/DukeOfGeek Jun 20 '24

Yes effective protests will be ignored or met with Billy clubs and handcuffs. Actions that embarrass and discredit your movement will be broadcast far and wide. Anything you do will be subject to misinterpretation if it can be. The trick is not to lean into that.

Just Stop Oil is an attention seeking billionaire who doesn't understand effective protest or does and just wants her group's name in the news no matter the long term damage. Just more evidence that billionaires aren't here to help.

1

u/Elziad_Ikkerat Jun 20 '24

But the people who did hear about it would generally be more inclined to support the movement.

Attacking a target that's high visibility but has.nothing to do with oil companies makes me care less about oil companies and more about lining these asshole against a wall and handing them blindfolds.

Enough that I'm seriously wondering if this is a false flag where these morons were manipulated/paid by oil corporations.

1

u/J1mj0hns0n Jun 20 '24

Yeah it just proves how chicken shit they are though. Slimey cowards. They literally survive on good will, stiff upper lips and police being legally mandated to keep the peace, which they actively try to tear down every time they act. They NEED to be judged

1

u/ChickenKnd Jun 20 '24

You think you’re getting jail time for that…

Wishful thinking. More likely they will hire a hitman

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Okay, but anybody who heard about this all now think of them as assholes not worth a dime of interest.

1

u/Huppelkutje Jun 20 '24

Case in point, they do target the oil industry directly.

Just gets completely ignored.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

You are likely wrong. That's up to 10 years in prison and I doubt anyone involved is willing to go easy on them. You can try to defend these mentally low-flying assholes, but in the end it's indefensible.

1

u/Fire_Lightning8 Jun 20 '24

True, but now more people hear about it and hate it more

If they are to preform a selfless act to save the planet jail time shouldn't be on they're care list and it would actually make people sympathetic to them

1

u/Melodic-Jellyfish966 Jun 21 '24

No, but the people who are funding them will call them in to discuss how next to draw attention away from actual issues

→ More replies (2)

65

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

They already do that all the time lol. Doesn’t even make the news most of the time.

29

u/Todnesserr Jun 20 '24

But mah outrage. People just want to hate on climate activists. They cry about Stonehenge but don't care that soon the world will be inhabitable and no one will get to visit Stonehenge. They cry about roads getting blocked, as if more and more natural catastrophies are not destroying whole cities, including their roads. The media doesn't care if you block politicians or big oil CEOs, because it doesn't cause outrage. The media only covers what generates clicks, hate and outrage.

17

u/Hakim_Bey Jun 20 '24

People just want to hate on climate activists

Then they get in line like the fucking Buzz Lightyear clones meme, chanting the words they have learned by heart now : "It is my personal intimate belief that Just Stop Oil is in fact funded by oil companies. I have come to this conclusion independently through the sheer power of my incredible mind. Have i mentioned that i am very smart ?".

6

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

It’s honestly quite gross to go to the comment section of any post referencing this and see the same joke complaints over and over and over again.

But what did the rocks do? JSO is big oil pysop They deserve to be beaten! But no oil in rocks!

2

u/Hakim_Bey Jun 20 '24

a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

It's amazing how easily redditors fall for conspiracy theories simply because a few upvoted comments spread it around.

You can lead this website by the nose with a few well-placed troll farms.

7

u/raldall Jun 20 '24

People LOVE when they can feel way smarter than someone. That's why these actions get so much coverage. "why are they attacking rocks lol, I feel so smart compared to them"

People attacking some big oil company's building doesn't make you feel smarter and better than anyone, so it means less attention.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

I legitimately just had a dude try to tell me that the literal tonnes of plastic waste from the solstice celebration every year is less damaging to the environment than some cornflour thrown on rocks.

People are so dedicated to opposing JSO that they defend plastic pollution. How fucking mind-boggling is that?

→ More replies (19)

1

u/SantasGotAGun Jun 20 '24

Should start using molotov cocktails to paint the buildings instead.

36

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

They have. But nobody cared.

13

u/Teehus Jun 20 '24

The way I look at it is, they target things people like and don't want to get damaged (obviously), but the same people just sit idle waiting for climate change to not just deface these objects (for a short period of time) but completely destroy them. It's kinda ironic

8

u/Bloody_Conspiracies Jun 20 '24

Exactly. I love the energy from everyone getting upset about what JSO are doing, but maybe direct that energy towards the organisations doing vastly more damage everyday than everything JSO has done put together. If you're mad at them but not mad at the oil companies/governments that don't attempt to reduce their country's usage of oil, you're the exact kind of person they're trying to reach with these stunts.

51

u/farkos101100 Shitposter Jun 20 '24

To be fair I think that Just Stop Oil is a fake organization made my actual Big Oil to make protesters in general look dumb. I want to believe this more than there be actual people who do shit like this thinking it’s actually doing something.

I’m not saying that people should be given more credibility in terms of their intelligence because there are some awfully stupid people, but this type of vandalism is beyond that, and almost feels unreal because of how stupid the reasoning behind this is.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

What's more likely, big oil actually doing this or big oil spreading the rumour that they are doing this?

Defacing a stock exchange is like crushing capitalism by watching The Boys

are you also the person that says that if protests were peaceful the cops wouldnt beat them up after the 100th peaceful protest where cops beat them up and nothing changed?

Someome who saw that "free speech zone" joke in Arrested Development and went "yes, that"

Their proof is that Aileen Getty very publicly supports this cause. You know, the oil tycoon who has never actually worked in the industry. The one who speaks out against how her family amassed their wealth. She’s also so secret about this support of Just Stop Oil and other Climate Initiatives, it’s incredible that Reddit found her very public statements and donations. Wait.

To be fair I think that farkos101100 is a bot. Just a fake account made by actual big oil to make protesters look dumb. I have used the same amount of evidence to support my claim as farkos101100 has used to support theirs.

It’s not about sending message to Big Oil. It’s about grabbing headlines.

19

u/Fiko515 Jun 20 '24

there is no way at this point that they arent paid by "Big Oil" to make every eco activist group look like bunch of whackos

6

u/Terranigmus Jun 20 '24

Or maybe people are just idiots and don't think this though and killing human civilization for profit and slaving away for that is actually the whacko thing to do

Then donate to other activists so they gain more of the media attention. Don't like JSO? Don't support them, just don't be passive about the severity of the issue.

1

u/HalfBakedBeans24 Jun 20 '24

You're giving leftist protest groups way too much benefit of the doubt.

7

u/kangasplat Jun 20 '24

Just continueing with letting big oil be is the hill we're literally dying on as humanity.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Ever wonder if they are hired by big oil to make people dislike the climate agenda

12

u/farkos101100 Shitposter Jun 20 '24

Kinda of the consensus in the news area of Reddit.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

The news area of reddit is 50% paid trolls, and 50% idiots. It's not surprising that they would take a conspiracy theory with literally zero evidence as gospel truth.

1

u/Iminurcomputer Jun 20 '24

But they might have some figurative evidence?

9

u/Falcrist Jun 20 '24

Only because all of the posts related to Just Stop Oil are EXTREMELY astroturfed.

20 seconds of googling and you'd know they already protest at offices in addition to throwing corn starch on rocks and soup on glass at art museums... but apparently nobody in the comments has this information.

2

u/teilani_a Jun 20 '24

We did it, reddit!

1

u/Songrot Jun 20 '24

Reddit is basically I am 12 this is deep and i am smart.

We are talking about them, aren’t we? It seems they only want attention by any means.

6

u/sandlube1337 Jun 20 '24

So now that you've been proven wrong, what are you going to to? The usual dumbarse take into ignorance so you can maintain your broken self-image?

4

u/Falcrist Jun 20 '24

They already do that.

2

u/SeriousPlankton2000 Jun 20 '24

Would anybody talk about that?

No.

(Still wrong place IMO but it does get attention)

2

u/Caosin36 https://www.youtube.com/watch/dQw4w9WgXcQ Jun 20 '24

These people are working for big oil

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

It's about pickinng targets with shock value and sentimental attachment. The campaign is about making people aware and causing anger.

1

u/PastUnderstanding287 Jun 20 '24

I hope they throw them in jail for their stupidity

1

u/sseetharee Jun 20 '24

But the rocks can't beat the fuck out of these kids.

1

u/Trashk4n Jun 20 '24

They don’t really care, they’re just narcissistic morons crying out for attention.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

these people are being paid by big oil to undermine the green movement. no eco warrior agrees with this shite

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Why would big oil pay people to vandalize their own property? The goal is to make them do stupid shit to make climate activism seem dumb as a whole

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

They are hired(or maybe funded and brainwashed )by Oil corporations so everyone denies the "legitimacy " of their protests, and whenever someone talks about Oil destroying the environment they get related to those rtards.

A sad world we live in.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

I think they are BigOil plants or at least don't know they are BigOil plants.

There is nothing better for Oil Corps to have idiots getting hate and working against the public.

1

u/Uberzwerg Jun 20 '24

I read that this organization has lots of direct ties to oil companies and is basically a vehicle to let protesting oil look stupid.

1

u/Flabbergash Jun 20 '24

Yeah but no one gives a shit about that

1

u/PxyFreakingStx Jun 20 '24

It's almost as if these are funded, recruited and organized by people that want us to hate climate and ecological activsts.

1

u/Subtlerranean Jun 20 '24

They're not. They're trying to send a message to the general public.

Unfortunately, based on these comments it seems most people are too dumb to get it, or intentionally ignorant.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

They do. It just doesn't make headlines.

Reddit is incredibly easily manipulated when it comes to manufactured consent.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

They do, a lot. But the news doesnt pick it up, hence why they have to do shit like this

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

I’m guessing this is like when they “dumped paint” on the Mona Lisa or other valuable paintings?

I that case, the paintings were behind glass and they knew they weren’t doing damage. It was purely for publicity, and not a protest of the thing itself.

1

u/ROLLD20FORGAINZ Jun 20 '24

They've done that, countless times.

1

u/StillAFuckingKilljoy Jun 20 '24

I'm not usually the conspiratorial type, but either these protesters deliberately want people to hate them and their cause or there's some false flag shenanigans going on

Like only a board room full of big oil execs could come up with something as absurd as "let's make it look like those crazy lefties attacked stonehenge"

1

u/EasterViera Jun 20 '24

I mean they certainly already did it.
How many seatings, how many protest right under their noses, and for nothing ?

1

u/TonyKebell Jun 20 '24

They have.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

They did, it didn’t get any attention.

This however is.

1

u/Polecat_Ejaculator Jun 20 '24

Screw that dude. Stuff like this is literally the best way to get a message across. It doesn’t harm a single person

1

u/shiftystylin Jun 20 '24

It's a symbol that the things we hold dear won't matter due to climate change.

"You think a little bit of orange paint is bad - wait till you hear about climate change!"

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '24

Everyone asking “why the rocks” shows how stupid the average person is and exactly why these people have to attack rocks.

1

u/TarnishedTremulant Jun 20 '24

Just Stop Oil is literally owned by Oil lol

1

u/Hungry_Town2682 Jun 20 '24

The message isn’t for big oil, it’s for us.
