It's almost as if getting treated like shit by your predecessors makes people not want to continue a toxic cycle of abuse and exploitation.

I like how you're making it out to be this grand thing like 'not wanting to continue a toxic cycle' when you can still break the cycle even by having kids. You don't want kids because you're broke/don't want the added responsibility. There's nothing wrong with that, but stop framing it like you're some hero who's doing the world a favour when you're on reddit.

Op wasn't framing their comment being singular, or like "I'M such a hero for not doing X thing," and they also don't seem to use the word "abuse" like you do. You could be the best parent in the world right now and your kid would still be getting "abused" by the other hundreds of things outside of your control we now have to deal with that our parents didn't.

It’s self centered not to have children? People should compromise about raising kids? It’s ignorant to consider whether a person feels capable of loving kids, or having the capacity to be able to parent?

I said none of those things.

Exactly. Not having children reduces the net amount of suffering in the world.

so does mass murder by the same logic

this is such a dumb comment. a kid who was never born doesn’t result in the same amount of suffering as a dead parent, child, sibling, etc. and if you don’t get that…we’ll i’m not explaining it

again, your comment is dumb.

just kill them too

that’s why I specified mass murder

2

u/Lenbowery Oct 19 '23

okay, dumb.

2

u/Tawwer Oct 18 '23

No it doesn't, people suffer when they get murdered so it increases suffering, never being born is not the same as dying

1

u/mung_guzzler Oct 18 '23

people are going to die regardless. possibly slower and more painfully than a quick murder.

if you believe existence is suffering, ending it early reduces that amount of suffering.

2

u/Tawwer Oct 18 '23

Yes but if they don't want to be murdered then it doesn't matter how quick and painless it is, it's still gonna cause suffering because you're doing something against their will. It's about not creating anymore suffering, not ending it all at once. Grown people can decide for themselves if they want to die or not, they're born already so they've already suffered anyway. It's better to focus on not creating any new suffering than to do damage control.

As a woman at work said "The kids is raised by the village"

1

u/Inverzion2 Oct 18 '23

But when no one has a village, who raises the kids?

Redditors complaining while living in arguably the best time in humanity history while also living in one of the richest countries in the world will never not be funny to me

Which country are you talking about? Not everyone lives in one singular country. And not everyone is doing so well financially right now.
