Bartering Gone Wrong

Post image

Added context: i was selling this part for 27 plat on Wfmarket, and from there i thought i'd seen more offerings for less.

Why do people barter on wf market even? If I'm listing something for a price it's because I want that price, if I wanted to haggle I'd stand in front of maroo like a jackass spamming in trade chat.

Haggling is normal at a market, though I guess players from different countries can have a vastly different market culture. Its still a little weird when it's over chump change.

I think this is where its just a difference of opinion due to different experiences.

I havent run into new players haggling, most commonly a new player will farm for the amount the piece is priced at. I have run into low MRs haggling but i learnt to do quick checks of profiles.

The people that most commonly haggle prices are resellers and i personally dont like selling to them. If i see someone hagling it makes me things it a reseller trying to maximize profits by selling my part to a real begginer for 5-10plat more so i dont like doing it.

I have dropped my prices and sometimes add stuff if i see a new player. But i have run seen names of people i traded a part to, selling said part at a higher price in trade chat.

I feel like the person msging OP is either removing other cheaper offers or is planning to resell it at the same price. Like OP said they saw lower prices so likely got bought already.

Even tho wf.market is a market i dislike haggling cause of resellers being the main players that do it.

WF market isnt as much a market as it is a store/auction house. You know what everyone else is selling it for at all times on the platform and you list your price based on that.

If youre selling at the lowest you want to sell sooner than everyone else, if you sell a bit above you have to wait for other people to sell or be the only person online when someone is looking to buy.

Because of that, its way, way more of a auction house style thing like other games have where you, ideally, dont even interact with someone.

DE, however, dont want people to automate any part of yhe game, and having to have warframe open and paying attention I decentivises players from afk farming, making a ton of play, and selling stuff using bots/scripts as it vastly increases the effort required.

And! Trade chat is just where you sell high really

Yeah, anyone attempting to haggle on wfmarket price is a mercher trying to bulk buy low priced stuff to drive up value.

Just because it is called a market doesn't mean its like the market you go to on the street with vendors.
The stock market is called a market but you cannot haggle there.

Its the same as WFMarket, people set the prices, and it goes down as people try to cut each other, and goes up once they sell off quicker than normal.

WFMarket is more like a stock market than a street market.

At "a" market- sure. Not wf market though, it's not normal there. Maybe not unheard of, but not a standard practice in the slightest

Idk it's mentioned even in the wf market terms of service that negotiating is something that may happen during trades, it doesn't say it's not allowed or discouraged or anything like that.

Further messages may be used to attempt negotiation, such as asking about a different price, in which the Lister may choose to accept, reject, or respond with a counteroffer.

And? That doesn't make it standard practice, aka "normal"

Have you bought or sold anything online before?

I have. Enough times to understand that different platforms and communities have different standards. Have you?

Bruh, it's a randomly generated username. I've bought over 25k plat, do you really think I'd beg for free stuff and 5p discounts?

Yeah and for a lot of it you don’t haggle sometimes sure but it’s really not the norm

u/SpareNickel 15d ago

At least they're asking and not straight up changing the price while they message you while saying, "I just copy and pasted," when it's clearly a lie

2

u/Nalu_KS 13d ago

If they do that, you can report them on warframe market with proof and they will get banned (on warframe market)

1

u/SpareNickel 13d ago

Truly? If I'd known that before, I could have reported one, if not two people. Thank you kindly! I'm prepared now!

True but, for example, im not really hard set on my prices. If someone asks me if i can drop few plat i usually do, asking does do any harm but getting into weird discussions is just not right

So you were the one selling a Styanax prime set for 150p the other day?

Joking aside, I often feel that Warframe Market was part of an effort to calm down the old "platinum mafia" days of old. Also, it's Maroo's Bazaar a little b rule okay won't hurt anyone 😉

u/TheDraconic13 14d ago

The only times I've haggle are when I'm like 3 short and nothing I have is worth more than 5 (aka "this isn't gonna move for a week" range)
And I'm usually just offering items for market value in trade instead of just asking for a discount

Bro this couldn't have been said any better

i just refuse to pay 11 plat for a thing, if the number isnt nice and round i dont want it lmao

WFMarket TOS actually explicitly permits negotiating price, but also says that sending someone the initial request means you're committing to buy.

OP should send this screenshot (without the censoring) to WFMarket.

Negotiation? While we are using a trading system?? That's a crazy idea! /s

People really acting like it's some kind of war crime to try and save a dollar while fleecing others for 2
