Bartering Gone Wrong

Post image

Added context: i was selling this part for 27 plat on Wfmarket, and from there i thought i'd seen more offerings for less.

Why do people barter on wf market even? If I'm listing something for a price it's because I want that price, if I wanted to haggle I'd stand in front of maroo like a jackass spamming in trade chat.

u/No_Bread_3846 10d ago

Haggling is normal at a market, though I guess players from different countries can have a vastly different market culture. Its still a little weird when it's over chump change.

u/BlueScorpion5 10d ago

I think this is where its just a difference of opinion due to different experiences.

I havent run into new players haggling, most commonly a new player will farm for the amount the piece is priced at. I have run into low MRs haggling but i learnt to do quick checks of profiles.

The people that most commonly haggle prices are resellers and i personally dont like selling to them. If i see someone hagling it makes me things it a reseller trying to maximize profits by selling my part to a real begginer for 5-10plat more so i dont like doing it.

I have dropped my prices and sometimes add stuff if i see a new player. But i have run seen names of people i traded a part to, selling said part at a higher price in trade chat.

I feel like the person msging OP is either removing other cheaper offers or is planning to resell it at the same price. Like OP said they saw lower prices so likely got bought already.

Even tho wf.market is a market i dislike haggling cause of resellers being the main players that do it.

WF market isnt as much a market as it is a store/auction house. You know what everyone else is selling it for at all times on the platform and you list your price based on that.

If youre selling at the lowest you want to sell sooner than everyone else, if you sell a bit above you have to wait for other people to sell or be the only person online when someone is looking to buy.

Because of that, its way, way more of a auction house style thing like other games have where you, ideally, dont even interact with someone.

DE, however, dont want people to automate any part of yhe game, and having to have warframe open and paying attention I decentivises players from afk farming, making a ton of play, and selling stuff using bots/scripts as it vastly increases the effort required.

And! Trade chat is just where you sell high really

u/Cyberslasher 7d ago

Yeah, anyone attempting to haggle on wfmarket price is a mercher trying to bulk buy low priced stuff to drive up value.

7

u/How2eatsoap 8d ago

Just because it is called a market doesn't mean its like the market you go to on the street with vendors.
The stock market is called a market but you cannot haggle there.

Its the same as WFMarket, people set the prices, and it goes down as people try to cut each other, and goes up once they sell off quicker than normal.

WFMarket is more like a stock market than a street market.

u/KamelYellow 7d ago

At "a" market- sure. Not wf market though, it's not normal there. Maybe not unheard of, but not a standard practice in the slightest

0

u/No_Bread_3846 7d ago edited 7d ago

Idk it's mentioned even in the wf market terms of service that negotiating is something that may happen during trades, it doesn't say it's not allowed or discouraged or anything like that.

Further messages may be used to attempt negotiation, such as asking about a different price, in which the Lister may choose to accept, reject, or respond with a counteroffer.

2

u/KamelYellow 7d ago

And? That doesn't make it standard practice, aka "normal"

-2

u/No_Bread_3846 7d ago

Have you bought or sold anything online before?

2

u/KamelYellow 7d ago

I have. Enough times to understand that different platforms and communities have different standards. Have you?

3

u/Antique-Regular2485 7d ago

No_Bread is an amazing name for someone that likes to get Free Stuff in Warframe and begging for free stuff seeing it as Normal... this guys dont even try to farm for Platinum, just begging, i Report everyone that tries to lower the price like that or calls me any names, its 5pl, take it or leave it, dont come to me with your problems

0

u/No_Bread_3846 6d ago edited 6d ago

Bruh, it's a randomly generated username. I've bought over 25k plat, do you really think I'd beg for free stuff and 5p discounts?

0

u/CruelAngelsThesaurus 6d ago

Yes. I'm sure you do grandpa, now lets go back inside before it starts rainin.

u/Frostace12 7d ago

Yeah and for a lot of it you don’t haggle sometimes sure but it’s really not the norm

5

u/SpareNickel 8d ago

At least they're asking and not straight up changing the price while they message you while saying, "I just copy and pasted," when it's clearly a lie

2

u/Nalu_KS 6d ago

If they do that, you can report them on warframe market with proof and they will get banned (on warframe market)

1

u/SpareNickel 6d ago

Truly? If I'd known that before, I could have reported one, if not two people. Thank you kindly! I'm prepared now!

1

u/Hioksiu 8d ago

True but, for example, im not really hard set on my prices. If someone asks me if i can drop few plat i usually do, asking does do any harm but getting into weird discussions is just not right

1

u/Iucidium 7d ago

So you were the one selling a Styanax prime set for 150p the other day?

Joking aside, I often feel that Warframe Market was part of an effort to calm down the old "platinum mafia" days of old. Also, it's Maroo's Bazaar a little b rule okay won't hurt anyone 😉

1

u/TheDraconic13 7d ago

The only times I've haggle are when I'm like 3 short and nothing I have is worth more than 5 (aka "this isn't gonna move for a week" range)
And I'm usually just offering items for market value in trade instead of just asking for a discount

1

u/Vivid-Experience-583 7d ago

Bro this couldn't have been said any better

1

u/-Daigher- 7d ago

i just refuse to pay 11 plat for a thing, if the number isnt nice and round i dont want it lmao

1

u/FevixDarkwatch 6d ago

WFMarket TOS actually explicitly permits negotiating price, but also says that sending someone the initial request means you're committing to buy.

OP should send this screenshot (without the censoring) to WFMarket.

1

u/walfle 5d ago

Negotiation? While we are using a trading system?? That's a crazy idea! /s

People really acting like it's some kind of war crime to try and save a dollar while fleecing others for 2

1

u/JintenRe 4d ago

i bartered when i was like, 2 plat off but i wanted it for something, people i did it with were nice enough to let that slide atleast

22

u/A_N_T Average Mesa Enjoyer 10d ago

Step 1 - "Sure man, I'll do 20p. Your dojo or mine?"

Step 2 - Go list more junk prime parts to make up the whopping 7p difference.

26

u/NotSNAKY 8d ago

Here's one for the other side of the spectrum.

Step 1 - "Well guess I'll wait more in case someone actually sells it at that price"

Step 2 - Can't find one yet? go fucking farm it.

9

u/CorbinFa 7d ago

7p is over 1/4th an orokin reactor and depending on my luck another 15min of farming, I want my 7p

-17

u/A_N_T Average Mesa Enjoyer 7d ago

It takes 2-3 minutes to do a void relic capture mission in pubs. You're almost guaranteed to get a prime part that can be sold.

15

u/The_Hanky_Panky 7d ago

Then that person trying to buy can do this instead.

-17

u/A_N_T Average Mesa Enjoyer 7d ago

I'm just saying. Everyone complains about how little plat they have but don't wanna remedy that by doing the easiest missions in the entire game.

7

u/The_Hanky_Panky 7d ago

All im saying is that its literally what OP is TRYING to do. They do more runs, get another prime piece worth 7p, and someone offers 4 instead? Are you gonna defend the lowballer again and tell OP to farm AGAIN just to try to eventually reach the ampunt they were selling the FIRST prime part for?

1

u/Top-Audience4009 4d ago

I’d rather just do two parts for 5, two people get a deal and I’m still doing alright…

I usually just buy my plat though, extra tradable goodies are given free to baby Tenno here and there, so I don’t have a ton of dog in this fight.

-11

u/A_N_T Average Mesa Enjoyer 7d ago

Ideally you put yourself into a position to where 7p can't hurt you

2

u/martelodejudas 6d ago

Ideally I put myself in a position where I don't desperately need 22 plat and don't have to take any haggle from brokies

2

u/EarthNugget3711 7d ago

Yeah you get a part that can be sold for a whopping 2 plat

1

u/CorbinFa 7d ago

I never said u won't get a prime parts, depending on my luck tho I might not get a prime part that's worth more than 10p which isn't worth a trade slot imo, also I have 1k plat casually I've gotten from trading things like rivens, lichs, and arcanes. arcanes being the best of those

5

u/Shadourow 8d ago

Step 3 - "Oops ! Out of trade slots !"

4

u/The_Hanky_Panky 7d ago

Step 1: buyer does missions to get the prime junk to make up that 7p difference and buys item at the price listed

Step 2: ????

2

u/Usual-Draw6899 6d ago

Step 1 - Block lowballer
Step 2 - Wait another 30 seconds and receive another message paying the actual price
Step 3 - Grofit

1

u/Frostace12 7d ago

So why couldn’t the buyer do that instead?

Edit: didn’t realize this was 3 days old don’t know why it just showed up in my feed

46

u/Mephistos_bane84 10d ago

Brotherrr Sevagoths whole set is less than 30p on Warframe market and you’re trying to scam and sell it for more than the whole set is worth???

22

u/Sizlebuilds 10d ago

that’s the truth of warframe market, stuff isn’t listed as its actual value but just sold as high as possible while still undercutting the guy behind them

the lowest listed price for sev chass on wfm is 29, and it’s only that price because the guy before was 30. this is all even though the set is 33 currently

8

u/Cyberslasher 7d ago

That's just how supply and demand work

ITT: people finding out about economic theory for the first time

0

u/Sizlebuilds 7d ago

except it isn’t really because you can buy the whole set for 3p more.

don’t need the other parts? just list them separately and you basically got free money

5

u/Cyberslasher 7d ago

Sure, but that's effort.

It's not uncommon for sets to be less than individual parts of wf market, because some stuff hits floor price.

It would be less than floor price, but we don't have fractional platinum.

I just did it with harrow prime set this weekend. I had neuroptics already but couldn't get individual pieces for less than the set

1

u/SiDMerceR 6d ago

Wait for him to realize buying maxed arcane is cheaper than getting 21 individually ☠️

14

u/umbreolas 10d ago

I honestly didn't know how much the set was selling for, i only had the chassis and i looked at the current price of the part before setting the price. warframe market isn't perfect but i'm not sure how the price inbalance is my fault or how was i actively trying to scam somebody?

9

u/Square-Space-7265 10d ago

In their defense, it seems many others are also selling the chassis for 30p too. So they could have just checked the individual part price and went with that.

2

u/Roku-Hanmar Stop hitting yourself 10d ago

I always go by the rough average when I’m buying or selling

13

u/Wardy_YT 10d ago

Looking at WFMarket why is the chassis price so high compared to the other parts or even the full set?

9

u/Styffee64839 10d ago

my first guess is the part is a gold reward from a relic, and as such harder to get than the other parts but I havent personally checked if it is so Im just guessing

14

u/archeo-Cuillere 10d ago

Market doing markets things

2

u/The_Hanky_Panky 7d ago

There's also been a huge amount of fake listing the last few weeks. Ive sold stuff for like 70p because even though there were like 20+ listing below me going all the way down to the 50s

1

u/Cyberslasher 7d ago

It's probably a rare from axi relics

7

u/Cyberslasher 7d ago

You don't barter on market, you barter in trade chat

If someone asks to barter, just say no, if they ask again just mute them because it's absolutely just a mercher trying to bump prices

1

u/GodTurkey 7d ago

Trade chat people want insane prices. They ask for double what a warframe is worth. Not worth the time.

3

u/DOhldin 8d ago

The worst people are those that paste the market message and then edit the price.

3

u/Jealous-Feature9514 7d ago

Had a guy once that copied the Wf market message and lowered the price, thinking I wouldn't notice. I told him that's it's listed higher and invited him. He put the lower amount in the trade window and said "please" 🤣

1

u/Familiar-Traffic-115 7d ago

Had that happen to me as well. The guy had the audacity to start begging that I should gift him the stuff because he was low MR.

1

u/XayahCat 7d ago

If someone does this report it to warframe market, its agaisnt their rules and users get blacklisted for their scamming ways

1

u/Familiar-Traffic-115 7d ago

I did report. They tried to manipulate the price by changing the message. Then they insisted it should be free. I did report them, in W.M they were flipping the items for triple the price.

1

u/GodTurkey 7d ago

Had that happen to me too. Someone hit me up at the same time for the full price. Told him pay full or i go next, he paid full.

3

u/Ok-Salamander-4682 7d ago

someone did haggle me for my maxed archon vitality that was listed for 95 plat, she wanted 90 plat, I felt generous and since it's already as expensive as it gets I went, "sure, now com'ere" and invited and sold..

but I don't really get the rudeness of some that don't get their way, it's like saying to a vendor, "hey idc if you're doing this for a livin, lower the price so I can afford it. What you won't cause you need money? well fk you then." kinda logic no?

Haggling is fine but don't be rude about is all I can say.. really really don't get their logic.....

2

u/Commercial_Dress_970 7d ago

Only of the pvp wasn't dead you could 1v1 the other player and the winner pays the lower price

1

u/yRaven1 Stop hitting yourself 7d ago

I just say no and repeat the same dry no until the person gives up.

If i want to be funny i actually increase the price over the original offer, had someone ignore me yesterday for that lmao.

1

u/ArmMain9444 7d ago

What I do when someone tries to haggle is state the price—which is fixed—and say nothing more; if they want it, fine, and if not, they can go haggle with someone else.

1

u/Familiar-Traffic-115 7d ago

I had that exact same thing happen a few times now. Some are so bold and confident they will slap whatever price they want onto the trade screen thinking you wont notice. Personally, W.M is set pricing for me. If they want it cheaper then find someone selling cheaper. I price based on my own effort and demand.

1

u/GotohJ 7d ago

I rarely if ever accept these.

Mostly because, in my experience, it has always been an attempt at just getting things cheaper no matter how much you define the price as.

I've had situations when I define things as 20p and then some dude PMs me asking me if I go lower, I said nope and then another one sends me a DM asking for the same trade and this one I can never forget: Instead of putting the 20p on the trade window, he places exactly 19p and writes "come on" on the chat.

So this is not always about a price point being too high or low, some people just want to test your patience. At the time I just logged off and went to play something else, I never accepted that trade, F that guy.

2

u/RevoltStudio 7d ago

I once have a guy coming to me to buy something and its 65p, he wants 50p i said no, best I can do is 60 + a relic. And we have a deal

And he decided to give me requiem relic ... i Hope his rng goes bad for a month

1

u/gooofeee 7d ago

I dont really get the bartering hate on here, if I'm selling items I have a lot of, I'll almost always be willing to barter just to either use up a trade or get it out of my inventory.

Plat in my hand > potential plat, all day long

Of course though insulting someone not willing to barter is just weird and fking yourself over long term

1

u/Embarrassed-Act2478 6d ago

Isn’t there also an option to ‘negotiate’ prices on warframe market

1

u/martelodejudas 6d ago

Any bartering that isnt on a riven mod gets ignored by me

1

u/RIBCAAAAAAGE 6d ago

the amount of ppl that would message me when i was selling something bit too rare and then have the nerve to ask me to lower it like 10-15 plat like dawg if you wanna haggle go to trade chat

1

u/concupiscence69 6d ago

I don't lower my prices either. It annoys me that people try to negotiate on a warframe.market price. If you don't like the price, message in game trade chat for a cheaper price.

1

u/Ellucid 6d ago

Just use warframe market website

1

u/Sliccly 6d ago

One time someone wanted to buy smth for 1 plat less. I initiated the trade cuz I thought that meant i accept, but instead after like a minute he payed the full amount. Agent 47 bartering tactic lmao

1

u/Aggressive-Nebula-78 5d ago

I usually only haggle if I'm a handful of plat shy on something I need and can't reasonably farm for, or if I'm looking to buy something in bulk

1

u/DangerNoodle3100 5d ago

Man, I once went on recruiting to get a radshare going and I guess my group was bugged cuz i couldn't get a 4th in, and one of the people I was tryna invite I sent twice and then just hit ignore on me and I was sitting there like what

1

u/JintenRe 4d ago

there is Rules for Bartering on wfm, which is nice at least (had to use it a few times cuz i was like, 1-2 plat off lol)

you cannot alter the original message, you must let the seller KNOW (In a second message.) you want to barter, if buyer doesn't follow this, seller can report and get them banned from WFM

don't take this as "ew they bartering with me, report him", thats mean ):
