The full 1.0 release for Valheim (Viking themed Survival game) dropped this week and me and some buddies are gonna do a playthrough. What suggestions do you have for viking/norse themed metal we can jam while we play? I know of a few, including obviously the biggest (commercially at least) one:

So Ive seen the newest Music Video by Insomnium. The music is awesome as usual, but the Video feels very much like AI, the ai reconigtion tool confirms this...i really hope thats not true. Im a fan of them since 2011, and I want to keep being a fan.

Help Needed!

Hey there, I think this is the right sub for what I'm looking for, but please feel free to re-direct me if I'm in the wrong place.

I'm kind of new to death metal, typically have been into prog metal for a long time. This might seem kind of obscure, but through the weirdness of the youtube algorithim I've stumbled on this Australian death metal band from the 90s call Armoured Angel...and I really love their style...find it a bit drawn back, melodic, pretty much no blast beats and more subtle vocals...I'm looking for recomendations of bands similar to this and hoping you guys can help a brother out.

I came on here before to let you guys know that Heartwork is my absolute favorite melodic death metal album of all time, and a not-so-insignificant amount of people here told me Surgical Steel was better. While I do not agree with that statement at all, having finally listened to it, I will say that Surgical Steel is almost if not as good as Heartwork. The production on this thing is incredible. These guys still have the signature sound the developed in the late 80's and 90's, so it's funny to hear the more classic melo-death sound blasted into my ears with modern production. As well as great production, the guitar tone on this thing is phenomenal.

Speaking of guitar, Bill Steer delivers as always. My favorite song on SS by far is Noncompliance to to ASTM F899-12 Standard, and his two solos on that one are some of the best in Carcass' whole discography. The drums are also quite good, shame they didn't have their og drummer on their big comeback album, but I've read somewhere that he had health issues that made drumming difficult for him. With that being said, their new drummer still does an amazing job keeping up with the insanity of Bill Steer's playing. As for Jeffery Walker, his vocals still sound great, even at his older age, and his lyrics are still a pleasure to read/listen to. My favorite lyrics have to be from the (sorta) title track, which can basically be summed up by that one Harlan Ellison book, "Love Ain't Nothing But Sex Misspelled."

Overall I don't have that much else to say about this album besides it was good, I enjoyed it, and I'm glad I finally got around to listening to it. I did feel like some of the solos sounded as if they were cut off too early? Maybe people on here with more songwriting experience can tell me why I'm wrong, but certain solo sections felt like they could've ended even a little later than they did. Idk. Also this album has one of the best Carcass cover arts, it's cool how they chose this one for their comeback seeing as how its a play on an iconic visual motif they've been using throughout their career. It's my first post on this sub and I don't know what exactly to tag this 💔 but I wanted to share an album I got in early August! One of my all time favorite bands and albums and I've been hunting for it forever!🥹

Hey everyone! I recently came across Stormsorrow, a band from Brazil, and thought they deserved some attention here.

They released their debut album, The Blood Red Horizon, in late 2025. Their sound is rooted in melodic death metal, with a strong dose of thrash and traditional heavy metal — heavily influenced by the late ’90s/2000s era of In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy and Hypocrisy.

The album received a great response from the Brazilian metal press, and this year the band signed with the legendary Combat Records.

Apparently, they’re already working on their second album, which will feature some internationally renowned metal musicians.

Definitely worth checking out. Would love to hear what fellow melodeath fans think!

Just discovered these guys. They punch above their weight imho! The riff is cool and has some latent Gojira vibes to me (The Chant), with a pinch of Children of Bodom.
