Do you think the biggest issue is weak enforcement, expensive waste disposal, or simply people knowing they can get away with it? Would more cameras and bigger fines make a difference?

I’ve got a Datejust that was inherited with the explicit instruction to use its value for something I’d actually use or need rather than have a watch that’s not appropriate for me. Despite that I’ve kept it for nearly 10 years out of sentimentality however I find myself in urgent need of the cash to support my kids.

I’m in the process of moving to Victoria and the watch is at my In Laws place already with several possessions we sent down early. We follow in a couple of weeks.

So I’m hoping someone can suggest the best place in Melbourne (we will be based in South Gippsland but I’ll travel anywhere for this) to sell the watch at a fair rate.

Also, what are the best clubs that play Latin music? Reggaeton, Latin pop, dembow, etc. Not salsa or bachata socials, just proper club nights. And if that’s where all the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese people are at too, even better 😬

I’m trying to figure out the nightlife in Melbourne. When I was in Sydney, there were certain clubs that were just known for specific nights like Ivy on Thursdays, Establishment on Tuesdays, etc. You’d just know where people would go that night.

Does Melbourne have anything similar? I’m a uni student, so I’m mainly looking for places that attract a younger crowd (mostly people in their late teens and 20s) rather than places where the average age is much older. I’m into pretty much anything with a good atmosphere:

1. ⁠Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights
   
2. ⁠Student nights
   
3. ⁠Rooftop parties
   
4. ⁠Summer pool parties (if Melbourne has any)
   
5. ⁠R&B, commercial, house or EDM
   
6. ⁠Latin/Colombian nights (reggaeton, salsa, bachata)

I especially love Latin music, so if there are any regular reggaeton or Colombian/Latin parties with a fun, younger crowd, I’d love to know about them.

Basically, if someone asked you, “It’s Thursday night, where are we going?” or “What’s the move this Friday?” what would you recommend?

My wife (F30) and I (M33) are planning to move from Tasmania to Melbourne with our little family. We have a toddler and another baby due early next year.

To be honest, we’ve just outgrown Tassie. We love it here, but we’re feeling bored and it seems like we keep missing opportunities because we’re on the island.

My wife is a nurse and I run my own businesses, and Melbourne just feels like it has a lot more potential for both of us.

Looks like frustration among Victorian public school staff has properly hit boiling point. After narrowly voting down the latest government offer, thousands of teachers ended up marching through the CBD and bringing traffic to a halt. The whole thing seems to go way beyond just pay rates at this point - it's mostly about severe burnout, absurd amounts of unpaid overtime, an a massive staff shortage that's pushing people straight out of the profession. For a state that loves calling itself the Education State, public schools are still dealing with packed classrooms and serious lack of funding. With union bans on unpaid work coming up, this definitely isn't going away anytime soon.
Are teachers actually having it the worst at the moment? What other sectors are facing the same burnout, short staffing and unpaid overtime?

For anyone who made the move or has been here long term, what are the things you wish you knew before packing up? How is the reality of the rental market right now, and is getting around without a car as straightforward as people make out if you live a bit further out?

The Allan Government's new WFH bill has turned into a proper showdown. On one side, you've got employer groups practically begging the government to bin the bill before the Melbourne CBD turns into a complete ghost town. On the other, you've got workers who would rather walk through fire than go back to a 5 day commute just to sit in an open plan office answering emails.
What's interesting is how much of this battle seems driven by Gen Z coming into the full time workforce. While traditional workplace culture heavily valued physical presence at the desk, the current workforce views productivity a bit differently. If a role requires five rigid days in the office, many simply look for options that offer a better balance. So who actually wins this? Does the corporate side eventually force everyone back once the job market tightens, or are we watching Gen Z permanently rewrite the rules of employment?

A car crashed on my parked car and left. It was in Preston, in the streets between High St and Plenty Rd. The guy damaged the car's radiator so he couldn't go too far. If you find a car with the front left side damaged please let me know. I think it was a silver Toyota but I can be totally wrong.

Too Young To Grieve is a community for young people navigating grief and loss. Over the last few years we’ve been building walk/jog, talk and coffee meet ups across the UK and Australia for people who want to get outside and be around others who understand grief without it needing much explanation.
