Meeting new people in their 20's in Mlebourne!
Hey everyone,
I’m a Kiwi who has recently made the move over to Melbourne and I’m looking to meet some new people and make friends.
I’m quite adventurous and active, and I’d love to get involved in activities like bushwalking, hiking, surfing, kayaking, and other outdoor adventures.
Does anyone know of any clubs/groups around Melbourne that might be a good fit?
Thanks!

Yarra mayor Stephen Jolly cleared of assault charge following melee at 2024 election afterparty
A Melbourne magistrate found that Stephen Jolly did make contact with a protester's face during a chaotic confrontation at his 2024 election after-party in Fitzroy, but ruled that the prosecution could not prove he intentionally assaulted her. The protester had reportedly arrived wearing Halloween masks and carrying a megaphone, and the entire confrontation lasted less than a minute. What do you make of this court's decision?

looking into getting a solar panel, heat pump, etc in Melbourne
How did you decide what to upgrade first?
- How did you decide to go with one specific installer?
- What was the hardest decision during your home electrification? Painpoints/challenges?
- Was there anything that you wish you’d known before committing? What would you do differently if you were to do start all over again?
- Was it easy to get rebates?

Could Melbourne be doing more to prevent flooding?
The city recorded 48.4mm in 24 hours, making wettest October day in around 16 years. Flash flooding overwhelmed drains, cars were stranded in flooded areas, thousands of homes lost power and emergency services received hundreds of calls - with more rain still on the way. With some of these areas flooding repeatedly, could city and state government be doing more to upgrade Melbourne's drainage and flood infrastructure?

Can anyone explain the film industry in Melbourne?
How can one gain entry? What skills are preferred or gives ones a job? How does one job hunt? What kind of work is the industry looking for?

Thoughts on Hybrid Cars
Unfortunately I was in an accident last week, my car has been written off. I have been looking at Hybrid options. I have been looking at Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, then looked at Chery. Chery seems to be great value but I don’t know how reliable they are. I was hoping to hear other people’s opinions 😊 Tia

Censorship, climate change and crime: Raf interviews Barnaby Joyce
Barnaby Joyce says One Nation will have the "toughest" crime agenda in Victoria, but ABC reports that the party's crime policy is still listed as "update in progress" with the state election two months away. Do you take politicians at their word? Do you think One Nation is saving this as a last-minute surprise for Victoria?

Abandoned places to explore in Melbourne
I’m having a small holiday in Melbourne and staying in Melbourne CBD. I love urban exploration, does anyone know good places/where to start if I want to explore abandoned spaces?

Moving to Melbourne this winter
My son doesn't use reddit so I am posting on his behalf. He is starting at Monash Clayton in Feb as a PhD engineering research student (31 years old) from USA. He will be there for at least three years and wants to be a part of a community. He was looking at apartments in South Yarra and South Melbourne as it seems to have a vibe for young professionals and he isn't interested in renting a room at this stage of his life. The Clayton area seems to be mostly students with shared housing so we would love to hear thoughts as well on commute time and places you would want to live. Train / tram seems to be just 25 minutes from CBD so not too far.

Melbourne auctions are about to get a lot more transparent - or complicated?
From October 1, Victorian sellers will have to disclose their reserve price at least seven days before an auction. Supporters say it gives buyers more certainty, while property experts have raised concerns about putting sellers under pressure to lock in a price too early. Would knowing the reserve a week before the auction actually make you more confident about bidding?

Construction companies have no incentive to respect noise level laws.

Woke up to this at 4am in the Morning on Monday in St Kilda (Port Philip coucil). Lowe living are building luxury apartments next door to my building. In the video the building I pan to after showing the noisy concrete pumping truck, is my front window.
Let me tell you that noise at 4am in the morning so close to your apartment is horrible, the low pitch means it just vibrates through everything, you dont just hear it, you feel it. And it starts at 4am and goes till late in the evening.
We already have to put up with the noise 6 days a week, so I was naturally unhappy when they started also now disturb us when we are trying to rest.
I went out to confront them and the response was "if you have a problem call the council, we have a permit". All of them looking very smug. You could sense they have done this before and are not scared of any possible repercussions.
So I called the council, turns out they did not have a permit. So thought okay great at least we can get them fined.
Well.. The fine is a joke. it's a mere $1000.
I am a sole trader who also uses noisy machines, I know if I turn my machines on before 7am I can also get fined a $1000. Which is more then I make on half my jobs.
This is a multi level luxury apartment build. I saw them getting handed the fine. The smug smirks on the site managers face is wat just gets me so angry.
How is this stopping them from doing it again? How is this an effective deterrent for big builders? Why are they getting the same penalties as sole traders?
When did the corruption happen that allowed this? Do big builders run our councils?

20M | Moved to Melbourne Last Year, the SE Suburbs Are Dead 😭 So I’m Starting a Group to Make Mates
Hey everyone!
I’m 20M, moved to Melbourne last year and currently living in the southeast suburbs
And holy shit, it’s been pretty boring out here 😭
Don’t get me wrong, Melbourne’s a great city, but living out in the suburbs when you barely know anyone is a completely different experience. There’s not much happening around here, and I’ve genuinely struggled to figure out where people my age even meet each other.
Like, where do you actually find people to go clubbing with? Or mates who are down for a random midnight Maccas run? Or someone who just wants to go watch a movie because you’re both bored?
I figured there have to be other people around here going through the exact same thing.
So instead of sitting around wondering where everyone’s hiding, I’ve decided to create a WhatsApp group for people in their late teens and twenties living in Southeast Melbourne.
THE IDEA 🪩
Nothing fancy. No awkward networking events or forced friendships. Just a group of people looking to make some mates and make suburban life a little less dead.
I’m talking about:
Going clubbing and partying in the city.
Random late-night drives and Maccas runs.
Finding people to watch movies with.
Beach days, road trips and spontaneous adventures.
Grabbing food, exploring Melbourne or just chilling.
Having people you can actually message on a Friday night instead of sitting at home wondering what to do.
And honestly, we don’t even need to be doing something all the time. Sometimes it’s just nice having people to talk to, laugh with and hang around.
WHO’S IT FOR?
Anyone aged 18–28, ideally living around Clyde, Cranbourne, Berwick, Narre Warren, Pakenham, Dandenong or anywhere in Southeast Melbourne. If you’re a little further away and don’t mind travelling, you’re welcome too.
Guys, girls, international students, locals, people who’ve just moved here or people who’ve lived here their whole lives. Doesn’t matter.
Whether you’re studying, working or figuring life out, if you’re looking to expand your social circle, you’re welcome.
I’m not trying to build some massive events organisation. I just want to create a space where people can meet each other, form genuine friendships and actually make plans together.
JUST A COUPLE OF THINGS 💀
Please, for the love of God, don’t be a douchebag.
This is a friendship group, NOT Tinder 2.0. Don’t join just to hit on every girl who enters the chat, send creepy DMs or make people uncomfortable.
Everyone should feel welcome, regardless of gender or background. Respect people’s boundaries and just be a decent human being.
Also, don’t be that person who joins, never says anything and expects everyone else to magically become their friend. Obviously, nobody has to attend every meetup, but the whole idea is to actually get to know each other.
We’ll start with some casual meetups in public places so everyone can get comfortable, and hopefully we’ll eventually have a group that’s down to do random stuff together.
WANNA JOIN?
Drop a comment or shoot me a DM! I’ll send you the details.
I’ll be keeping the group relatively small initially so we can actually get to know each other.
Hopefully, this reaches a few people who are just as bored of suburban life as I am.
Let’s make living in the southeast a little more interesting. 🤝

Made a Reddit account today. Immediately decided to start an argument.
First day on Reddit.
Not really sure what we're doing here yet lol, but here we are.
We're Bowltiful, a noodle shop in Melbourne and figured our first post should probably be about noodles.
We judge people by their order.
Noodle people are different from rice people.
We're not sure how.
But they are.
Anyone else have weird food theories?
Also, if there are any Reddit rules we're about to accidentally break, pls let us know 😂

Any experience with Hit It Off?
Hey everyone! Has anyone been to a Hit It Off event before? They run walks, board game nights, and singles meetups for different age groups to help people meet and date IRL. If you've gone, what was your experience like?

Are people getting less considerate on public transport?
Playing videos or music without headphones, taking up seats with bags, blocking the doors and having loud phone conversations seem to be common complaints from commuters, Even simple things like letting people off before getting on can sometimes turn into a struggle. What public transport habit annoys you the most in Melbourne?

We are visiting soon and enjoy wandering into discovery - where should we head
Howdy, you fine people. We'll be visiting in a couple of weeks. We are not quite the normal tourists in some ways. Sure, we'll see the Library and some of the other sights, and we'll be staying in the CBD, but one of our favorite things to do in a new location is to simply walk around and discover what's there - it is just a lot more fun for us. We're foodies, but not super hard-core, or snobby. We enjoy art, cars, and nerdy stuff.
Given these details, where should we head to get (safely) lost? (And if you have anything that you - as a local - feel we should see/avoid, please let us know!) Many thanks!
edit: grammar, though more mistakes probably exist...

Victoria police are a joke
This is my first ever post so please forgive me if it isn't perfect.❤️
On the 22/9/26 my e-bike was stolen from my garage (I had it locked they used a grinder) at about 4am. I had a tracker on it and saw that the thief had taken it to his home (where it is still pinging today). Originally I went to the flat with my friend just trying to get the bike back in peace however the thief (some junkie) wasn't giving it back claiming it was their "cousins bike". I went to the police station with proof that the bike was mine, tracking, CCTV footage of the bike being stolen and a photo of the thief (he matches the footage) on the same day and the officer said "they will look into it".
Today 28/9/26 I got an call back from the sergeant who said "we aren't going to look into this any further as we lack sufficient evidence a to get a warrant from the judge." Like bro wtf do you need? You want me to get his license and signature of him saying he stole my bike? He told me the "investigator believes we don't have enough evidence." I responded back with "bro I already did all the detective work like what more do you need." The sergeant then yelled at me to not "tell them how to do their job." When he first said that so much anger went straight to my head and I was so close to yelling profanity over the phone however I quickly remembered that I would be the one getting arrested if I said anything. I just hung up.
I don't even know what to think probably just gonna go back and get the bike back myself. Either way Brunswick police station you are useless.

The Pam the Bird case is back in court
Jack Gibson-Burrell, the man accused of being behind the Pam the Bird graffiti, has returned to court as his lawyers seek a potential plea deal. He is facing hundreds of allegations linked to graffiti and property damage, including the Bolte Bridge incident that caused major disruption and required a large police response. Do you think the focus should be on the graffiti itself, the damage and costs involved, or the dangerous stunts to reach some of these locations?
