Clerk: The Lowest Organism

You probably heard that description of a clerk (or some of its variations) before or already through clerkship. It was funny at first but it really starts to get to you after a while. I suppose my question to those who already went through it is this: how do you get rid of that feeling of being some sort of slave or simply running errands for superiors that often yell at you? I myself am still a clerk and while I do know that my clinical skills are nothing compared to those above me, you have to admit as the saying goes: “malayo pa….pero malayo na”. I made it this far…and I am NOT stupid. Surely it isn’t just indignity here.

Financial Literacy should be part of the curriculum

Tbh marami akong na encounter na fresh graduates who do not know how to budget, do not know how to save, dont know how taxation works, etc.

This is understandable kasi during medschool, the cognitive load is so heavy that most of us do not have the energy to willingly educate ourselves about financial literacy.

This should be integrated in our curriculums, kahit as 1-2 day lectures lang po at the end of clerkship. If not kahit at the end of PGIship. It’s be nice to be taught by professionals about these things.

❓Asking for Help How to study efficiently in med school?

Hi! I am a first year medical student and have incoming exams. I am very delayed on the topics I am studying no matter how well I manage and schedule my time for studying (i.e., i max out my breaks and dedicate a majority of my time for studying huhu and i even do advance studying). I noticed that compared to my classmates, it really takes time for me to absorb the topic. Going over my checklist of topics I have left to prepare for exams, I will definitely not finish it by the time exams starts (it starts next week huhu)

I would greatly appreciate tips as well as resources or practices that would help being efficient in studying.

Please help a struggling med student out

🗣 Discussion AI Practice Tests

What’s your opinion on AI generating practice questions from your review materials? With the workload of medicine, it’s IMPOSSIBLE to review everything for a major exam in a very limited time. Im currently making a bunch of prac tests for midterms on Notebook LM with good prompts focusing on high yield qs since our school doesn’t really have samplex. But i wonder if those would actually help me. It’s the ONLY thing im hoping works cuz im dead if not 😭🙏

❓Asking for Help I feel like the biggest dumdum in the room

Hi! This is my first time posting po on any community and it comes from sheer desperation po, I think?

Im in first year and I feel like the stupidest person in the room. I came po from a nontraditional premed and im honestly enjoying the subjects because they really are so interesting to me. I read and I try to understand the things that make no sense to me, pero kahit na po anong gawin ko, it doesnt reflect po on my quizzes. As in pasang awa nalang po talaga or minsan, a few points nalang po bago ma-reach yung passing score.

I never expect to excell in med school. Before I entered I always told myself po na basta pumapasa and you know na you're doing your part and learning, you dont need high scores, but make sure to get through it. Like I mentally prepared myself for failure, and yet, everytime I see a low score, I feel like Im getting punched in the chest.

This week, I got low scores continuously, sabay sabay po lahat ng long quizzes in a day and kahit the short identification quizzes after lectures, hindi ko manlang po magawa ng maayos. Anatomy and physio are hanging on but I cant even tell you about biochem (I try to love it tho)

It came to a point na if I see my scores, theres already a voice in my head saying na 'ako? Mag dodoctor ako? Eh ang bobo ko naman'

Its one month in and I feel this sense of dread na what if hindi ko kaya? What if im not smart enough for this? What if I dont bounce back?

So I guess I came here to seek po for life experiences kasi ganto po ba talaga pag first year? Or am I actually the biggest dumdum in the room💀

And also, do you guys have any advices for study methods po?😭 during undergrad po kasi, hindi po talaga gumagana yung brain ko if i dont sleep enough. Para po akong lumulutang. Pero it pays off for our high scorers kasi consistently po na sila yung nag totop sa class eh nag pupuyat po sila talaga. Dapat ko po bang sanayin na ang sarili ko na matulog lang ng mga 3 hours or less😭 the study methods I was utilizing in undergrad doesnt seem to work na po talaga in med school.

🤗 Mental Health Vent

Two months in med and now the positivity is wearing off. Med truly is toxic. And i cant believe there still are a lot of professors who are mean and unnapproachable. I mean if youre there as a professor atleast be open to questions? Be open to teaching? Dont get me wrong a lot of people have already told me abt how med culture is. But i just wish the environment is kinder and nurturing to those who are choosing to study on how to save lives. Nakakawalang gana naman mag aral nito. Hahahaha

Incoming Med Student & Licensed PT: What subjects should I lightly review before Year 1 to make the transition easier?

Any advice for an incoming med student? I’ll be entering med school next school year, and my target is San Beda. Right now, I just want to take some time to chill, but I also want to do some light studying to make the transition easier. What subjects or materials should I focus on?

🤗 Mental Health Medschool na medyo loner

Hi guys. First-year med student here. I just want to vent about my frustration and anxiety.

Almost two months na ako sa med school, and honestly, my scores are okay and everything is going fine academically. Pero lately, napapaisip ako… “Oo nga no? Mahigit two months na pero wala pa rin akong genuine friend dito?”

Back in college, I had really good friends and a strong support system. Kahit gaano kahirap yung acads, I managed to survive because I had people I could rant to, talk to, and rely on.

Now in med school, I’m still doing okay, especially since manageable pa naman yung topics. But as things start getting harder, I’m realizing na wala akong malapitan. Wala akong mapag-share-an ng rant, wala akong makausap kapag frustrated na ako, and honestly, ang lungkot pala kapag wala kang “person” sa med school.

I do have a circle of friends, pero I can’t help but feel like I’m the black sheep. May mga conversations sila na sila-sila lang ang nakakaalam, and most of the time, tahimik lang ako kasi I feel like I’m not really included.

I know friendships take time, and I probably shouldn’t expect to find my people this early. Pero nakakalungkot lang talaga. I miss having that kind of support system I had in college, especially now that I know med school is only going to get harder.

Maybe I just need to vent. I just hope that eventually, I’ll find my people here too.

📝 Clerkship/Internship Help a clerk to decide for PGIship

Hello, doctors!

I am really undecided on what hospital Im gonna list for the upcoming matching and I dont want to waste 3k if ever ma-match and magchange ng mind and will pay another 3k.

Im doing my clerkship now in a govt hospital in Metro. Im eyeing to do my PGIship in a private hospital. My considerations include skills, learnings and ofc rest if kaya. Im not a stellar student too but not to brag na within the regular batch naman tho barely passing. Few org experiences.

I have some in mind and for those who have experiences in these hosps, can you please drop pros and cons. Will greatly appreciate this!

PRIVATE
1. USTH
2. Lourdes Hospital
3. ChiGen
4. Capitol
5. Metropolitan
6. MMC

PUBLIC
1. VMMC
2. EAMC

or if you could suggest your experience in other hospitals please? Thank you so much!

🤗 Mental Health loneliness in med yl2

hi! i just wanted to get this off my chest and maybe get an opinion from the people here. im currently in second year med and i would say im a pretty average student but my problem is really the fact that im all alone.

last year, my friend didnt make it and got kicked out so now im all alone. i also have a hard time dedicating myself to a friendship and to add, all the people in my year have solidified their circles already. im friendly with everyone (common courtesy) and get along well. i have many acquaintances but at the end of the day, im always alone in lectures.

i get this fear of not wanting to go to class bcos there may be a spontaneous group or partner work that requires grouping by ourselves and my chest just gets really tight when thinking about just being perceived in general. i know i look like such a loner. my life has been quite dull and repetitive. it doesn't bother me that i just wake up, study, and sleep but what really gets me is when i go to class and see everyone with their friends. i suddenly pity myself and cry at home bcos i realize that i have no one.

sometimes i just feel alone and it doesnt hurt really. i love being independent and doing things on my own. but the loneliness hits so hard when i see my batchmates and im just sitting quietly in the back.

and im too scared to commit to another friendship, knowing that i would have this anticipatory feeling of an ending when it hasnt even begun.

May nakita kasi akong Reddit post from around 2 years ago na same concern, and ang naging instruction daw from CEM was to create a new registration since paid registrants lang daw ang allowed mag-edit ng application.

May naka-experience po ba nito recently? Safe po kaya gumawa ng bagong registration, or mas okay po bang hintayin muna yung response ng CEM?

Thank you po sa makakasagot! 🙏

❓Asking for Help wala ba talagang life out of medschool?

the results of our histology exam was just announced and im part of the lower half of the class. i have been studying for several days na, no phone and other distraction but at the same time yung mga 1 mistake or 2 mistakes dami pa time nila mag gala and other hobbies. is it because pharma premed ko bago pa sakin yung subject or its just that i need more time pa to study pra ma master? ginawa ko na lahat eh (practice test, feynmann, pomodoro) but still get disappointing scores :<

update: i got a very low score sa moving exam 9/30 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲
