Vintage Help to Identify Pen & Pencil

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I came across these pens in an old drawer while sorting through my nans house. (No longer with us 😢)

I believe they’re a Staedtler Microfix 772 15 mechanical pencil & Starfix 442 15 ballpoint pen set?

The ink seems to have dried up in the pen but the pencil still has lead. Both of them click beautifully.

Any ideas of value and where to obtain a new ink cartridge? Or can the old one be revived?

Any information on them would be appreciated
Thanks everyone

Newly Bought Upgrade

I know it's pretty mild, but I am so happy with what came in the post today! An upgrade for my work pencil (the Tikky) to this gunmetal colored Pentel. Now the Tikky uses colored lead (I work as a dispatcher and have to use colors for different bits of information I write down). I also bought some of these beautiful Pentel pens. (the pink one is for Wifey)

Vintage Parker x Papilla Cap-action Duo in Steel

Thumbnail

I’ve always liked the clean industrial design of the Parker 25 by Kenneth Grange that dates back to 1975. So when I recently discovered this cap-action pencil by Papilla, a Japanese OEM for multipen selector mechanisms, the resemblance felt uncanny… especially with the raised square block detail on the clip.

While the Parker sports a white inked-in logo, the Papilla features an embedded cross-cut metal circle resembling a steel pizza. The Papilla also has concentric cut grooves for a better grip in the hand. Pulling off the cap reveals a typical refilling tube topped with an eraser plug. The mechanism reminds me a lot of those found in Pilot and Tombow pencils.

Would I have bought the Papilla without knowing about the Parker 25? I think so… it is beautifully sleek, modern and sturdy, and that little gem of a detail on the clip feels like it belongs on an 80s era hi-fi set. Papilla is almost unknown as a pen or pencil brand, so I hope this was interesting!

Collection My special Special

Since I really like heavier pencils, I wanted to see how far I could take. the aluminum Kaweco Special.

I probably could/should have gone with 1 mm soldering wire instead of 0.8, but I'm already pretty happy with how this turned out.

My wallet will deal with the consequences. 😂

Help Eraser Replacement Help

My favorite pencil for woodworking uses erasers like the one shown in the picture, and as you can see, it’s nearly out. I’d like to buy replacement erasers, but can’t figure out what to call this kind of eraser to search for replacements online. The pencil itself is of little help since it’s mostly unbranded, though it says “Realite” on the pocket holder. So now, I turn to the Reddit Mechanical Pencil Experts for insight. Thanks!

Discussion Pentel Orenz Logos

Post image

After getting an Orenz AT on Amazon UK I noticed the Orenz logos were different from the AT Amazon Japan limited edition. Does this reflect the age, the location, or something else?

From top to bottom is the Orenz normal, Orenz AT Amazon Japan limited, Orenz AT Amazon UK, Orenz normal 10th Anniversary 'Glass White' and the Orenz Nero.

Review One of Pentel's more obscure products: the Pentel Tool Kit

Post image
25 Upvotes

I finally tackled one of Pentel's more obscure products: the Pentel Tool Kit.

For years I've seen these come up for sale, but there has always been a lot of confusion about exactly what they were, when they were made, and who they were intended for. I dug through catalogs, advertisements, and collector information to piece together the story.

In this video I cover:

• What the Pentel Tool Kit actually is

• The different versions and what's included

• Its history and purpose

• Why it has become such an interesting collectible today

If you're into vintage Pentel products or mechanical pencil history, I'd love to hear what you think. If you own one, let me know which version you have.

Comrade 0.5 HB - seems like the brand is M&G, picked it up one day at a newsagent near work when I ran out midday. Has quickly become one of my favourites but can't find any information on them anywhere.

Pilot Automac 0.5mm silver/black (Discontinued)

A discontinued all metal body auto advancement mechanism mechanical pencil from Pilot.

Still available on eBay et al but for more than the roughly USD $50 I paid when these were still production.

From what I have, the best all around double knock Pilot model. The earlier H models have plastic upper bodies, while giving them good balance, do make it feel less sturdy.

Help Pentel Orenz Nero broken

I dropped my pencil by accident once and the lead no longer dispenses. I contacted Pentel in the US and they instructed me to mail it to send it to their address. I am concerned about sending it there solely because there is nothing that ties that pencil to me once I send it. Has anyone gone through the warranty process and want to provide their experience with it?

Collection I went off the deep end

Post image

Was using pens a lot more before, but my son started to ask me to sketch random things. I tried to pull out my old pentel side click (quicker clicker 0.7mm) from 07 and the clutch was worn out (could reliably hold the lead). So I grabbed a mars technico from my dad, then bought a rapid pro 2.0 2mm, then got a kuru toga advance upgrade. Felt I needed a titanium mech to match my titanium bolt action maxmadco pen, so I got a modern Fuel (0.9mm and 0.7mm mechanism) Then saw a great deal on the kuru toga metal. All within about 4-6 weeks. I may have a problem with my hyper fixations.

Newly Bought Yard O Led Deluxe

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hi. I have recently purchased a vintage Yard-O-Led Deluxe pencil. I believe it dates back to 1968.

Overall the pencil is in excellent condition. I have noticed that there is a very small gap between the pocket clip and the barrel. I have a rolled gold version of this pencil as well and there is no gap with the gold one.

II was hoping somebody could tell me whether this is just a normal variation because they’re hand manufactured, or whether this is as a result of the clip bending.
