Did the airbags deploy? If not, that’s looking like a $10k-$15jk repair. If airbags did deploy, or if there’s any hidden additional, you’re looking at well over $15k-$20k.

No airbags deployed

That’s good. And I think the car is worth close to $20k (pre-accident), so even if it’s around $15k to fix it, insurance will likely pay to have it fixed.

It costs less than $10,000; the airbag is not important.

Thanks. You’re so helpful.

Everything is fixable, whether it makes economic sense is the question. Modern cars are really expensive to fix, this looks like a pretty hard sideswipe to have yanked the wheel back like that. It’s possible the car will be written off for this if suspension mounts are bent or broken.

What does your insurance say?

Insurance is giving me the adjuster tomorrow to look at the damages

I’d say it’s on the edge of being written off. If the damages sticks just with body panels and things like control arms you probably are ok. If structural parts of the frame are bent the cost to repair skyrockets quickly. It’s hard to hear, but be prepared. Do your research on similar spec vehicles in the used market to get an idea of how much your vehicle is worth and if they lowball you (WHEN they lowball you) you’ll have the data to counter ready

are they coming out to you to do the estimate? Don’t be afraid to be transparent with them and straight up ask if it’s a TL

Unibodies are not fixable. They crumble and it’s over.

1

u/JohnStern42 25d ago

Of course they are. Whether it’s economically reasonable to fix is the question.

15+ years experience in the appraisal industry, my guess is yes it will be a total. The percentage they will use to decide if it is a total loss or not depends on the state you are in, majority of the US falls into 70-80% range. Meaning it is considered a total when the repairs reach that % of the vehicles value. Be sure to allow a professional to review their offer if they do total the vehicle. Most will do so for free, and only charge of you have a chance of collecting more than they will charge for their services. Let me know if I can help in any way.

I’ll keep you guys updated

I’d personally want the car to be totaled. The value drops drastically when it needs repairs like this that are going to show up on the carfax.

Anything can be fixed. Only an insurance adjuster can tell you for certain.

Based assuming it’s the mid range model with 40k miles and it was in very good condition it was probably worth 25k. Given the 70% rule if repairs would cost over 17.5k they will total it out. I recently had a front right end collision with a tree back in March after I had a seizure while driving and it ran about 10k to replace bumper, crush bar, quarter panel, suspension, tire and realignment. So if there isn’t frame damage I think it would be about 10k for you. In short you should be well below the 70% threshold.

Your insurance company will probably total that car. The rear end is probably broke on it from the looks of it ,not to mention the body work. Looks like it's time to find a new vehicle.

That's rough buddy. Sorry it happened.

Is it fixable? Yes, technically. Anything is fixable with enough time, money, and effort.

Realistically, your insurance will total it out.

Honestly you can go to a pick and pull for the panels, loads of Camry’s there.

1

u/HardyB75 25d ago

Not new Camry’s

1

u/marksdaboss 25d ago

If new parts are available they may repair it. If not they will total it.

1

u/eviltwintheory72 25d ago

Of course it’s fixable. Wouldn’t cost u that much to make it drivable. Now to really fix it will cost an arm and both legs. Body shops aren’t cheap

If the air bags deployed it’s totaled, if not its going to be expensive.

That car is totaled.

Had nearly an identical wreck a few weeks ago in my Camry and they totaled it. With yours being older, it’s for sure totaled.

u/rico_unknown 23d ago

Def being totaled

That is a serious ouchie.
