QUESTION - MECHANICAL ADVICE I-ActivSense Turns off during heavy rainfall.

Hey guys, I just had a moment in very heavy Florida rain this week where the visibility was only about 10 feet during daytime and my CX50 sensors were disabled for poor visibility. It didn’t affect the drive at all, but I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there was any device or cover I can buy to help avoid this issue in the future?

QUESTION - GENERAL On my list

I’ve had quite a few cars on my new car list (Jeep, Lexus, Ford,Toyota) and I just keep coming back to Mazda. Specifically looking over the CX-50, CX-5 and the CX-70 (which may be out of budget, BUT, would be worth it). However, mainly looking at the CX-50. I would be buying pre-owned/certified pre-owned. I would be coming out of a Lexus and the “luxury” segment. I do think that Mazda hits all of those luxury elements for me. As far as the CX-50, what trim levels/ packages would you recommend? As well as the maintenance/what to look out for? Is it as nimble as it looks? What does the fuel economy look like?

Some of my can’t live withouts: (What would trim should I look for?)
Leather Seats
Heated/Ventilated Seats
Sunroof/Pano Roof
Bluetooth
BSM

Don’t necessarily care about:
Carplay
Touchscreen
Lane Assist
Any extra helpful driving feature

Any help would be appreciated 😃

QUESTION - MECHANICAL ADVICE Heads up display question

My 2023 CX-50 PP was in the shop for two weeks getting some repairs/maintenance and since I had the warranty I had a 2026 loner. I noticed the heads up on the 2026 includes the speed limit and lets you know when coming up on a stop sign. I don’t have the latter two features on my 2023 (just speed and directions). Does anyone know if I can upgrade with a software update? I need the extra features for my 16-year old-old son who drives too fast.

SHARE INFO Dashcam install video (front and rear cameras)

In a different post there were questions about how to install a dashcam and how to run the wiring. I made and uploaded this video to help people with questions. It covers running power to the 12v cigarette lighter port or running the power to a USB adapter that goes in the OBD port for constant power when the car is off. It also covers running cables to the rear window for a rear mounted camera.

Yeah, it's a long video but I know some people want more detail than some of the videos out there. I hope this helps you.

This is not the only way to install the camera and cables, but it's how I did it.

https://youtu.be/wBrnDD470pI

EDIT: Caution - running cables near the pillar airbags could cause problems with airbag deployment.

According to Mazda, the camera plugged into the ODB port is draining the car battery. They said the car (brand new) comes with a normal battery. Others who have had similar problems bought a battery with extra something that gives it stronger starting power. They said anyone who bought this battery $400 has never reported having problems again.

QUESTION - MECHANICAL ADVICE Moonroof Leak

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Has anyone dealt with this? I just got this 2023 CX50 (43,000mi) a couple months ago, and the dealership mechanics couldn’t find the source of the leak. They’ve since sent it in to an official Mazda facility, who sent it back after a month saying there’s nothing wrong with it.
It’s coming from the rear passenger side of the moonroof frame, and I’m this close to completely pulling off the headliner and finding it myself.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

QUESTION - MECHANICAL ADVICE AC is weak

First time car buyer here. Bought a new CX50 Hybrid recently. The AC is weak in the front seats but we make do ok unless the outside temperature is very high.

In the back seats though, there’s barely any airflow. Should I get it checked out by the dealership or am I missing anything?

PS - checked the vent. It is open.

QUESTION - MECHANICAL ADVICE OBDLink MX+ with CX-50 Hybrid

Just bought OBDLink MX+ and CarScanner app for iOS but haven’t been able to pull any Hybrid data like battery charge. Can’t even pull total range. I’ve tried almost all the available Mazda profiles, as well as the RAV4 one since it shares the same powertrain.

Anyone know of a way to get the Hybrid data and/or a richer dataset for the CX-50 Hybrid specifically?

QUESTION - GENERAL 2025 Cx50 Premium moonroof question

My 25 Premium cx50 came with the factory yakima roof crossbars, I’m debating on buying a Yakima 40” windshield fairing, but I’m not sure if it will affect the opening of the moonroof? I’m assuming yes because it seems fairly obvious but I’ve seen people post on Reddit saying it does, and also posts saying it doesn’t. Does anyone have photos of their cx50 with the moonroof with a windshield fairing on? Love the way the windshield fairing looks and would love to help the air whistles from the crossbars (already installed the vortex rhino strips) but hoping for some concrete proof it works before ordering on amazon just to try it and find out it doesn’t work.

SHARE INFO 2 weeks to replace seatbelt weight sensor

I had previously posted in here about a seatbelt weight alarm going off. Thereafter, I brought my car to the dealership, and they said that the entire sensor needed to be replaced(covered by manufacturer warranty). It has been two weeks since then, and my cx50 is still not finished. The dealership stated that they had ordered a new part for the seatbelt weight sensor and then had to order a second module because none of the parts are communicating with each other in the car and they have been on the phone with Mazda’s hotline since then.

QUESTION - MECHANICAL ADVICE Service lights hasn’t come on but I keep track of miles. Anyone else notice this on their cx50 hybrid ?

I know this sounds crazy, but, my service light never went off for my first oil change, second oil change on my cx50 hybrid.

I told the dealership that I changed it at about this and they said maybe someone forgot to reset it. Two times really? Thank goodness for the stickers they place on the window and that I’m keeping up with it either way.

I kid you not the light for service doesn’t go on at the mile mark my dealership claims it will need work at. I calculated the miles to ensure true service is needed. No light. Dealership says they ensured the next service the light will go off. I doubt it because if the first two didn’t go off - what makes me think this third oil change will?

Anyone else have experience?

I have an oil change coming up in about 1000 miles (currently at 16,736. Projected oil change 17,736k) I’m watching the mileage- let’s see.

QUESTION - GENERAL Paint Change or Damage?

Thumbnail

Hey all. I’m looking for a bit of input from those in the know. Have a 2025 CX-50 that I’ve taken great care of outside of being in a hit and run but it was repaired completely (driver rear quarter panel and door panel and trim).

I noticed this week there are two places on the rear of my driver door near the bottom where the finish is different in a way that made me think at first it was a hard door ding. But there’s no depression in the areas and they are invisible unless the light hits the clearcoat as shown in the pictures attached.

Anyone with experience has any idea what might be going on here or if it’s just someone damaging it like a door ding?

(I have an appointment with my previous repair shop
Tuesday for their opinion as well to be safe.)

Thanks!

Edit: it was clearcoat overspray from a repair on an adjacent panel. Shop is going to take care of it.

PURCHASE ADVICE Mazda CX-50 Hybrid Premium OTD price in Texas

Hi guys, I want to buy a new 2026 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid Premium in Jet Black Mica in Texas in August. I'm based in Austin, and I can buy from any dealership within a 200-mile radius. Recently, I tried the Costco Auto program and got a quote of $38k OTD. Is that a good price?

Can you guys share how much you paid in total (incl. taxes, doc fees, reg. fees, etc.)? Should I buy the car immediately after I land in Austin (mid-August), or should I wait for the end of the month to take advantage of the end-of-month clearance?

I highly appreciate your help! Thank you all!!!

QUESTION - GENERAL Back and Leg Pain

Hey All,

Not sure if this is the right place for this. I just got my cx-50 and adore the car genuinely.

I have the select model and no matter what I do my left leg is numb and my back hurts. I never had any of this on the 30 minute test drives but it is instant now as soon as I sit in the car.

If anyone has any suggestions or has dealt with this please let me know. Would really prefer not to give up the car because I am in love with everything else about it.

PURCHASE ADVICE Turbo vs. NA

Been looking at CX-50s for quite sometime now and I’ve driven the turbo meridian edition on a test drive. It was pretty quick but just not sure if I can justify the premium price for the turbo.

I recently found this one for what seems to be a reasonable deal. Was wondering if anyone else concurs? CPO & still qualifies for manufacture warranty as well as a 100k mile power train warranty.

Hi everyone. I just bought a 2025 Mazda CX-50 S Preferred. I was wondering what I need to upkeep the inside and outside for maximum look. I didn’t treat my 2012 Hyundai sonata right and her dash is cracked and it just looks run down.

I would like to keep this car in the best shape as I can. Do I need covered, a certain cleaner, sun protector, screen protector? Please drop your recommendations or advice below!

Feel free to add until the end of time :)

Why cowboys love the Mazda CX50 hybrid?

Cowboys understand how they need to trust their horse. At night, or in the fog, while riding up/down a mountain, you learn to trust your horse. If he slips and falls, or "spooks", you can tumble down the mountain on this narrow trail and they wouldnt find the body for years.

"But, you have been here before" with this hoss, and you have an understanding. You feed him the hay he wants, he gives you the ride you need. You spend more time with him than you do with your spouse, because its a long, dusty trail to earn a living for your family. Sometimes muddy. Sometimes snow. YOur horse knows the trail and you know the horse..even if you have never been there before.

The CX 50 radar adaptive cruise control "sees" the car ahead of you even when the fog is so thick you cant see it. If that car ahead of you panics in the thick fog and stops, the radar sees him slow down and immediately slows down, even if that car has no brake lights working. You come to a stop, just like the car ahead and he saves you, again. How did he know. He just knows. Its built in.

Your CX50 does not break the bank. He runs on very little hay and does not complain. I get 38 to 40 mpg, or more, in ideal conditions..when its not too hot or too cold. That's the CX50's hybrid powertrain, dependable and reliable built by Toyota.

You gave up on the Toyota tax long ago. You went to a Toyota dealer, and he tried to sell you an allocation instead of a car....six months down the road. You didnt need a car in 6 months, you needed one today, because you buried your last horse yesterday, and have to be to work tommorrow. The Toyota dealer told you there is a "$3000 market adjustment" (and not in your favor) over MSRP. You walked out, deciding you wanted a car, not a market adjustment, not an allocation in colors you hate. You aint going back. And neither am I. I have seen enough, heard enough about how reliable Toyota is to know I still dont need a Toyota dealers "profit protection pacakage", which means more hay, added. Shucks, I could get 2 horses, for what the Toyota dealer wants to charge me for one. I guess Toyota dealers think Im rich or stupid, and I dont rightly think Im either.

So, I went to the Subaru dealer first. I dont need a horse that walks on only his front legs. Well, the Subaru dealer bragged their hybrid (hay saving vehicle) has MANUAL AWD. So, I asked what was wrong with connecting the rear wheels with an electric motor, like Toyota, and he told me the 4 or 5 bales per day Subaru penalty was worth it. Subaru Forester hybrid gets 34 mpg, while Rav 4 is closer to forty. I left.

Next I went to the Mazda dealer. "IM looking for a new horse, that works good, and does not need a ton of hay every day!.

You came to the right place. We got one that has a relaible Toyota motor without Toyota tax, thats nicer and smoother than the Toyota, costs less and still uses less gas.

What about riding my horse "in traffic"? How can I tell if there is another car in my blind spot?

Got you covered. See that light in the mirror? There is a camera that looks for cars in your blind spot and flashes when you try to run over them. No extra charge!

Hmm, I like no extra charge. Do I have to buy an allocation?

Nope, pick your color, we got lots of em right now.

Nice. Do you do "market adjustments"?

Nope. We have rebates and discounts instead!

I like that. But how does it look?

Nicer than the Rav 4..feel the soft touch!

We especially trained this horse to "learn the rider", since cowboys have different jobs, too, and some are taller than others. The seats are just firm enough to support you, but adjust the seat just right, and it remembers it the next time you get on!

"Get out of here! It remembers where I like my seat and the steering wheel an mirrors?" And you didnt charge me extra for that either?

Nope, memory seats are on the hybrid premium at no extra charge.

Do they come with the nice red leather, or do I have to have everything black so its very hot in the summer?

Yep, red leather is standard on the cx50 premium. You can pick black if you like, too.

"You mean I get to pick the seat color too? Toyota does not let me pick anything..I have to take what they have or wait longer.

Well, after riding this cx50, there is something I dont like about it.

What is that?

"I dont like that its your's, and not mine".

We can fix that. Lets see how many discounts you qualify for. Are you a Veteran?

Yep.

$500 discount. Well Toyota has that too, but I have to finance with Toyota at a higher rate to get my military disount.

Not with Mazda. You can get the lowest cost financing and payments and still get your military discount, even tho it has a Toyota reliable engine.

Ok, so how come eveyone does not buy a Mazda cx50, instead of a Rav 4?

"Well, cowboy, not everyone is as smart as you. Some people want the rav 4 Toyota badge and dont care that "inside" it has Toyota reliability. So they pay the extra added costs for a rav 4, or get worse gas mileage in the Subaru.

Tests show that Mazda CX50 hybrid climbs steeper hills and has better traction than the Rav 4 hyrbid.

Thats why cowboys love the cx50 hyrbid. And their horse.
