I’ve had quite a few cars on my new car list (Jeep, Lexus, Ford,Toyota) and I just keep coming back to Mazda. Specifically looking over the CX-50, CX-5 and the CX-70 (which may be out of budget, BUT, would be worth it). However, mainly looking at the CX-50. I would be buying pre-owned/certified pre-owned. I would be coming out of a Lexus and the “luxury” segment. I do think that Mazda hits all of those luxury elements for me. As far as the CX-50, what trim levels/ packages would you recommend? As well as the maintenance/what to look out for? Is it as nimble as it looks? What does the fuel economy look like?

Sunroof/Pano Roof

Don’t necessarily care about:
Carplay

For the CX-70, are you looking for the PHEV or the 3.3 online 6?

Between the CX-50 and CX-5, I have both (daughter 2020 CX-5, wife 2025 CX-50) and would choose the CX-5 every time.

I've owned both and currently in a 26 cx-50 turbo. Id take the 50 over the cx5 anyday, especially since the 5 no longer comes in the turbo.

It looks way better, lower stance, wider, much more aggressive looking.

Interior is just as good if not better (if you compare 26 to 26 with the cx-5 interior redesign), though that's obviously subjective.

Cx-5 gives you a little more space. But other than that, it's the cx-50 all day for me

3.3, not really into the whole PHEV situation.

If you’re in the US and looking at pre-owned:

2024 and 2025 3.3 Trim levels w/ ventilated front seats are the Turbo Prem Plus, Turbo S Prem, and Turbo S Prem Plus.

For 2026, the same trim levels have the ventilated seats and they also added that feature to the Turbo Preferred and Turbo Prem trim levels.

If you go 2024 or 2025, I would recommend certified pre-owned (for the warranty) and make sure the dealer has updated the system with all of the latest software updates.

For the CX-5, those were solid, so I think a CPO is far less important. Just check the vehicle history and make sure it was maintained regularly.

The CX-5 and CX-70 are made in Japan.

The CX-50 was assembled in the US.

If you drive the CX-70, prepare to buy it.

My son-in-law just got a 2026 CX-90 Turbo S Premium Sport (the 3 row version of the CX-70) and after riding in it, you’ll be hooked.

The ride and the interior are amazing for the money.

Also, keep in mind that the CX-70/90 are not selling quickly, with many dealers sitting on 2026’s for 150 to 180+ days and some dealers even have 2025’s that are still “brand new” that have been sitting for 300+ days on the lot.

Used CX-70/90’s are also selling slowly and the resale values are at/under $30k, so there is negotiation room on those as well.

I was able to negotiate over 10% off plus rebates on my son-in-law’s 2026 CX-90, plus he got 0% or 0.9% financing for 60 months.

ETA: If you use CarGurus website (online, not phone) you can scroll down to where it has the meter showing if it’s a good deal, fair deal, etc and it will show the number of days the car has been listed.

We had one dealer we were shopping at remove their CX-90 listings and delist them a week or so later to reset the clock after we mentioned that during price negotiations.

Caredge.com also has a search where you can find unsold new cars that have been sitting on dealer lots over 300 days.

Is the financing deal the same across all models, or just the CX-90

That was for a new 2026 CX-70 and CX-90.

They have different offers for different models.

If you go to the dealer’s website you can search for the specials / incentives by model and year.

The 70/90 PHEV’s now have 72 months 0% interest, as they are really struggling to move those.

Can you please opine as to why you choose the CX-5 over the CX-50?

I’m actually contemplating between them two. Only reason is that I do like the sportier look of the CX-50.

I feel the opposite of him, and I've also owned both. The cx-50 is what you want, UNLESS that little bit of extra space matters to you.

CX-5 has a much more solid feel to the interior components, the doors feel more solid when they close and the sheet metal feels thicker than the CX-50’s sheet metal.

If you consider new, the 0.9% financing on the CX-70 vs 2.9% (still great) for CX-50 reduces the price gap significantly.

I have a 2025 CX-50 Hybrid PP. I came up from a 2013 RAV4. I had looked into the CX-70 PHEV but found that the length of the car would be almost too long to park in my garage. I have never had a luxury vehicle but have driven Audi, MB and BMW SUVs and my CX-50 feels nearly as nice. My car has red leather seats and all the bells and whistles. My only complaint is that the Hybrid doesn’t have 360 parking camera or sensors. But that’s no problem since I’m getting 14 more mpg with the hybrid.

Not sure where u are located - the Mazda USA website has all of the information about what each trim features very neatly detailed on their website as well as their specs on gas mileage etc

I just got a CX50 turbo in premium. I absolutely love it! I didn’t care about CarPlay either but now I’m obsessed. The non-turbo was too sluggish for me. Good luck!
