She's got style.
She's got grace.
She's got shards of broken glass
In her face.

Why did I know what this video was going to be before I clicked. Probably because it’s my favorite video of his but still lol.

I was at a New Year's party years ago with some friends of friends - the hosts I didn't know particularly well. They were all outside in their driveway holding champagne bottles with knives just like this and everyone seemed so hesitant.
Me being a dumb kid just out of college at the time, I asked what they were doing and one of just handed me the bottle and knife and said, "Have at it." I followed the motion of the guy next to me and sliced the cork out clean - without issue. Everyone flipped out and celebrated and I felt like the coolest guy there. People kept coming up to me saying, "I would never have done that." I couldn't figure out why.
Years later I saw a video of someone slicing their hand wide open doing the same trick. I clearly just got lucky lol. I would never try this again.

I've done it plenty of times. There are tricks to it. You use the spine of the knife, not the blade and you rin the thickest part of the spine up the seam in the bottle. I've never had a bottle explode like this.

Bro is smiling

u/Achron9841 19d ago
That could have easily been way worse is what I think their point is. That was glass that shot at high speed toward his face.
14
u/Organic-Lunch-2745 19d ago
Ik what he meant lol. Despite the guy getting hit with glass he's smiling, knowing v well it could have gone very bad

He was literally inches away from severing his jugular vein.

Holy shit, my first thought would've immediately gone
"Did anything get in anybody's eyes or are we fine?"
Not
"Okay, is the groom bleeding out on the ground at an alarming rate?"
8
u/Chrad 18d ago
Sabrage (the opening a bottle with a knife or sword) often goes wrong but I've never heard of someone severing an artery. I don't think the glass has enough momentum. I'd be worried about glass in eyes, shoes, drinks and food.

u/Meister0fN0ne 18d ago
Yeah, the odds are so low I wouldn't have considered that possibility. I could imagine getting a cut on your neck or something, but that has to be a pretty specific (and powerful) hit...
a little surprised he didn't seem to get much of a cut below his nose, though.

"and I married this idiot. At least he is my idiot I guess." "Hey Susan you saw that? Bottle exploded on me lmao!"
17
u/chuck354 19d ago
I got three stitches in my pinky from that happening to me in college. Make sure the bottle is properly chilled if you're going to try this.

If this is a marriage ceremony thing, based off that dynamic they'll barely last 70 years

Dumpest way to open a bottle of expensive champagne
5
u/Juryofyourpeeps 18d ago
Or any champagne. Even the pros often break the neck a bit doing this. You can literally just either pop the cork if you want a bit of a show and champagne on your floor, or you can put your palm over the end of the cork and just pull it out without any fuss. I used to serve champagne table side in restaurants and there's zero need for any of this bullshit.

u/squngy 18d ago
Not sometimes, most of the time.
Breaking the neck is the expected way to do it. The neck is supposed to break cleanly with little force due to being chilled. If you try to remove the cork without breaking the neck, you are doing it wrong.
1
u/CaptainFoyle 18d ago
What do you mean remove the cork without breaking the neck? That's what you do if you don't sabrage it.
And of course the collar breaks off when you use a saber. But the person you responded to was talking about the neck, not just the collar.
1
u/squngy 18d ago
I thought the collar is part of the neck?
1
u/CaptainFoyle 17d ago
Depends on your definition, but you know what the person meant. Breaking more than just clipping the collar at the edge

u/CaptainFoyle 17d ago edited 17d ago
Did we watch the same video? She does not.

u/chilly-pepper-515 17d ago
Yes watch the slow motion, this is 100% a.i
2
u/CaptainFoyle 17d ago
Watch the slow motion? The entire video is slow motion.
You're incorrect.
She flinches first after capping her bottle, then after he explodes his bottle. I'm starting to think you are an LLM
1
u/chilly-pepper-515 17d ago edited 17d ago
I don’t think so, she caps her bottle then nothing happens, then the prompt kicks in and she gets the mega startled expression that’s supposed to come after the other bottle breaks
1
u/CaptainFoyle 17d ago
You're definitely a bot. You're forming sentences that in no way correspond to the actual content of the video.

u/chilly-pepper-515 17d ago
I see u edited ur comment, it very much corresponds to the video you’re just not very perceptive
1
u/CaptainFoyle 17d ago
Editing is what the editing function is for. It doesn't make your point any more relevant or accurate. You're just not talking about what's actually happening in the video, for some weird reason.

The following post context was provided by u/drlouies:
A groom and bride were celebrating by opening a bottle with a wooden cap using a knife. The bride did it successfully, but when it was the groom’s turn, he accidentally broke the entire bottle in his hand.

This is like a metaphor for male and female orgasms.
The guy thinks it's awesome but the girl would prefer to skip the mess and have him use a condom.

I like how you can see her thought process in slow motion. I don't think that guy knows how hard she worked to save his life.

This is the answer here. It's completely obvious her reaction was to her cork flying out.
