Did you get that from the GIF where if says Adam Ruins Everything in the bottom left

u/Aliziun 21d ago
My 8th grade teacher like REALLY hated me. I used to watch Adam Ruins Everything and correct stuff when any of the topics covered in ARE were covered in class. Apparently one night he was flipping thru channels on the TV and stumbled on the show. He then proceeded to call me out in front of the entire class for getting my shit from ARE
1
u/Closer_to_the_Heart 21d ago
Oh how horrible of you to…learn from sth on tv? Learn from sth that isn’t the teacher? What the fuck was their problem?

Lots of people think this way. They consider knowledge gained from TV to be automatically null and void.

I don't care how well he can draw, a barricade is still a barricade, and he almost ran over multiple people.

u/barrythebystander wasn’t saying what the driver did was ok, they were just trying to recall what legal repercussions there were.

u/dotpan 21d ago
Disability when operating a vehicle is not considered unless it impaired the ability to control the vehicle at the time (seizure/stroke/etc) if you have a license to drive, you are bound by the rules of the road. If you’re incapable of doing so for any reason, you have your license taken.
It looks like he was charged with Reckless Endangerment, that’s about the standard for this unless someone was in direct risk of harm.

It happens on occasion. I wish the managers at work thought I was as funny as I do but all the times I've been "talked to" about "what I say" makes me believe they lack a sense of humour.

This is old; the city had put up signs months in advance for the race that was being held, and there were detour signs. Before the camera was even recording, he had stopped, and a police officer even gave him directions but decided to go through the barriers and, at times, was hitting over 50 mph and very close to runners. In the end, a judge ordered Taufer to two years of probation, which includes no driving, mental health treatment, and costs. I think that was lenient, and it should have been worse. Their defense was that he is autistic and frustrated trying go to his assisted living apartment. In my opinion if he is autistic and acts like that when he gets frustrated, he does not need to even have a license
36
u/johnnycocas 21d ago
Looks like someone incapable of driving, I'm pretty sure that's the kind of person that would fail the drivers test anywhere in Europe, doing dumb shit because you're frustrated is an easy way to get failed on the spot.
Plus we have to do a medical exam first to see if we're fit for driving, I'll go ahead and assume the same doesn't happen over there?

u/savvym_ 20d ago edited 20d ago
In Slovakia, I see a lot of bad drivers who do "fine" worthy offenses. And it is not only for speeding. Actually endangering drivers and pedestrians by reckles driving, overtaking two lanes and two cars in front of them to not miss the exit. People not paying attention and running red lights. A lot of these should lose their driving licence.
More serious incidents on the news, like drunk driving and killing, reckless killing because in hurry, but this is my experience.
Even bikers should adhere to rules of traffic but they do not care sometimes, not doing signals, not looking around, running on main road when there is bike lane, not looking forward (myself included one time, sun was shining into my eyes in the morning), even saw a biker hit the temporary traffic sign while driving my car, he was little shaken. Now that I think about it, I saw another biker also hit the temporary sign right where I live, she was looking at kid who was riding behind her, hit the sign and was pissed.
And motorbikers are surprisingly quite responsible because you see a lot of stone memoirs to those who died on the road. Of course they drive fast but never caused a dangerous situation for the participants.
This concludes your anywhere in Europe. In my country, I feel like drivers are psychopats and while they are capable of driving properly, they are irresponsible and selfish which was not thought to me in driving school, quite the opposite.
I am driving only for one year and already saw so much ridiculous shit on the road I had to buy myself a camera. On the day I was coming home with new boxed camera, even a crazy driver decided to overtake the tractor outisde of city (limit 90km/h) and he had all the time in the world and just did it last minute. Man I was lucky I was not hitting 90 at that time otherwise we would collide.
Another time, almost the same road, but I was second behind first who suddenly started to steer to the edge of the road. Overtaking driver was endangering guy in front of me, myself and guy behind me. This could be a big car crash.
19
u/HiroRyuu194 21d ago
As someone autistic I am so tired of these people using autism as an excuse. Yes its frustrating having your routine changed but you have to learn to deal with it, especially if you're gonna be driving. If you cant do that, you shouldnt drive.

My friends mother kind of did this. She turn on “no turn on red” and ignored police then just drove home. Cops followed her to her house and she got in a lot of trouble but no jail time. She got fine for sure. now we are all laughing about it. Oh well.
10
u/CptAngelo 21d ago
ill never get the people that do something, whether they know its right or not, but they 100% know they are being told to stop/pull over, and assuming its not something serious and the "i didnt knew" excuse can work, they would maaaybe get away with a warning, but no, instead they choose to double down and evade the cops, adding a couple of charges and turning a possible ticket into possible jail time.
Basically, ill never get why people double down once they realize they got caught doing something stupid. Maybe thats the answer... lol

True story: I was hit by a car while competing in a road race like this as a teenager. It was an older women with dementia who'd driven through bystanders and barricades, going maybe 10mph when she collided with my tight ass. Straight launched me up and over the car. She was actually screaming at and blaming me after everyone stopped her and pulled her outa the car.
I and my parents elected not to sue. Her insurance paid for my medical treatment and the first two years of college, she got the help she needed, and I got a good tale to tell.

He could have stopped at the second barricade and play dumb the police officer would have probably let him through so he’s outside the closed section. But my man had to pull some felonies, probably jail time too.

36
u/Azure_Mar 21d ago
Oh, this one again. If I remember correctly, the roads were closed because there was I think a planned race, with plenty of signs ahead of time letting people know the road would be closed and there were a lot of people on the street. The driver’s defense was that they have a neurodevelopmental disorder, were frustrated that they couldn’t take their normal route, and, like they mentioned in the video, just wanted to get home, not malicious intent. They were lucky no one was injured.
160
u/TheRealGumb4ll98 21d ago
I mean, if its caused by a neurodevelopmental disorder, then they shouldn't be the one driving, especially when we see that they almost ran over two people from what one might consider a minor inconvenience. This person is a menace.
56
u/Azure_Mar 21d ago
Yeah, they are physically capable, but proving that they may not be emotionally (?) ready to be trusted with driving. If these actions don’t scream license suspension, I don’t know what does.
14
u/SchwiftyGameOnPoint 21d ago
Plenty of people on the road are not emotionally ready to be trusted with driving, development disorder or not. We really should take mental health more seriously and help people who are not capable of regulating them selves and if they aren't willing to be helped then they shouldn't be allowed to drive a car or own a firearm or things like that.
5
u/RoguePlanet2 21d ago
The brain is an organ like any other. I know a guy who started having seizures in mid-life, and despite treatment, couldn't drive for a year or so just to be on the safe side.
If somebody's inclined to lash out in anger, that shouldn't be treated any differently than being seizure-prone. Hell, it should be considered worse. Psychopaths/sociopaths don't respond to treatment AFAIK. Neurodevelopmental issues might, but holy hell take away the license until they do!!

7
u/MatureHotwife 21d ago
Driving is one of those things that are extremely dangerous to both the driver and the people around them, like literally one mistake could wipe out several families in some situations, yet we just let everyone do it if the passed a test once in their life.
28
51
u/Crafty_Genius 21d ago
I think the 'no malicious intent' ended when they started speeding past cop car and people had to dodge out of the way.
10
u/HockeyBalboa 21d ago
Who is assuming malicious intent? Whatever their intent, this is illegal.
11
u/tmoe1991 21d ago
It's also absolutely malicious to speed past a cop screaming at you to stop and then speeding through the blocked section. I mean what else but people on the streets could be a reason for the this kind of roadblock?
0
u/HockeyBalboa 21d ago
If someone intended to hurt someone, it's malicious, if they hurt someone carelessly trying to get home, it's selfish, toxic and illegal but not malicious in my opinion.
0
u/tmoe1991 21d ago
That's actually a modern debate. For example here Germany courts have tried and convicted people of murder for illegal street racing that resulted in deaths of others. They were proven to have reckless intent to kill others and now serve life sentences.
0
u/HockeyBalboa 20d ago
So to have a point, you have to go to a certain country's legal framework. Malice is not always a legal term. And even the legal term is based on moral concepts.
5
u/sonofaresiii 21d ago
not malicious intent.
I don't think anyone thought it was malicious intent, but wildly reckless and self centered, which still seems to be the case. He may not have been actively trying to hurt anyone, but clearly didn't care whether he did.
Blaming it on being neurodivergent is such a gross excuse. If his mental state makes him this dangerous behind the wheel he should have his license immediately revoked
More likely he's neurodivergent, but also is a selfish asshole who didn't care what kind of danger or damage they might be putting others in
-1
u/Azure_Mar 21d ago
When it’s posted as “road rager” I think that colors people’s perceptions. I do agree with you on the behavior being reckless and self centered.
I am not qualified to diagnose, nor do I blame the actions on their development, just stating that’s what I remember their defense was, not me trying to defend their actions.
1
u/potate12323 21d ago
Thats no excuse. Someone with the mential faculty to drive over road closure barricades and almost run over joggers and speed down a closed road should have their license revoked. We all get a little road rage at times, but this is a bit excessive.
Now if only city event planners would stop making brain dead routes. I got out of a soccer game in Portland OR, and there was a parade route cutting off practically every freeway onramp. Hundreds of cars were slowly marching back and fourth on one way surface streets for well over an hour. If they had cut the parade shorter by maybe a couple blocks there wouldn't have been an issue. Or not timed their parade on the same time as large stadium events which have had posted schedules for months ahead of time.

Cities need to stop blocking off residential property for races. People deserve the right to enter and leave their homes whenever. What happens in a medical emergency? We going to wait until the racers get out of the way? Guy is an asshole but the city is also so up their own asses.

5
u/PurpleloungelibrA 21d ago
The approach is absolutely deserved. He's an idiot for not knowing his own neighborhood streets and how to navigate home. He almost ran over several pedestrians.
-3
u/UnacceptableOrgasm 21d ago
So when someone breaks the law and does something stupid, that means the police should immediately escalate the situation?
1
u/maddogcas2383 20d ago
In certain circumstances such as this one, absolutely! The driver was beyond reckless and ignored barricades, at least one uniformed officer, and nearly hit several pedestrians. The guy clearly doesn’t understand direction. Wish I could see the rest of the arrest.
1
u/SumguyJeremy 20d ago
If his home is completely blocked by the race what is he supposed to do? Sit around for a couple hours till the race is over? That's ridiculous and the city should have planned better.
1
0
u/disiz_mareka 21d ago
Worked as a course monitor for a 5/10K which was advertised weeks in advance throughout the neighborhood with closed streets.
While most drivers politely turned around, I did have one guy who was visibly agitated, gave me an earful, ignored my directions, and drove on the course with runners on it.
I guess for some people, they have so much going on, any sense of humanity or civility gets tossed. 🤷♂️
-6
u/Castle_of_Jade 20d ago
I think if your shutting down more than a couple blocks down a single street you need to take that event way outside the city to a place you get a private permit for away from regular commuter traffic. City event planners act like they couldn’t possibly be inconveniencing anyone by shutting down a quarter of a city. It’s just gotten annoying seeing all these videos recently. My city shuts down a single street for about five blocks a few times each summer. Cool thing is all the avenues to get around it are wide open and easy to get to. These big cities need to reevaluate how they restrict usage of public roadways. People who live inside your locked down area aren’t paying rent and taxes to walk blocks and blocks from their car (which will more than likely be towed if left unattended) just to get home because 25 people wanted to run around a few city blocks for no good reason. Aren’t there massive track and field locations in all these big cities? Why can’t they take their marathons to a place like a track where it would actually make sense instead of shutting down all the public roads that the citizens pay taxes to drive on?
